This theory gained wide spread popularity, but it wasn't true. Yet as more and more people stated to say Momiji was a wolf youkai, she became wolf youkai.

As far as I know, there are no real wolf tengus outside of Touhou, and it feels like it was supposed to be more a title than an actual feature. That's why earless Momiji feels more fitting for me, because it's easier to think of her as a tengu.
