So, what does everyone think of Vocagathering so far? I've heard a lot of mediocre & dogshit songs, but a few ones I really liked. So far my favorite is a rock song with Lukahttps://youtu.be/4-QtK09Lfdk?si=2DR4NaGFfOeHPFUT(MonochroMenace - Feedback)
>>50761129Wasn't this her MikuExpo entry, isn't that kind of cheating?
>>50761129She's a fine songwriter, but my general criticism about pretty much all her music is that she really needs someone to mix/arrange them to feel more "complete" her stuff always feels too stripped down and sometimes feel more like demos to a song rather than a completed song and just having someone with a little more expertise in that way to help her mix it down or rearrange it would improve her stuff greatly. If she's still doing stuff in 5 years, I imagine the remasters to her old stuff will be very good.
>>50761153If it was, I was unaware and yes that would be cheating. It's the exact same reason I just released one of my songs on its own and not for VocaGathering.>>50761179I agree, but unless the mixing is brickwalled or the vocals are notably far too loud or too quiet, I can usually look past it. Unfortunately, I noticed a notable dip in quality with submissions this year. I guess that's to be expected when most people submitting are probably kids, though.

>>50761153It’s immensely annoying but it happens every year. The winner last year was also someone offloading an already finished project that didn’t win another contest. Then the already successful producers act like they’re magnanimous benefactors for leaving a nice comment on a new producer’s first video while completely crowding them out. Funniest part is a lot of people don’t know this and sincerely think the video was made in only a few days.

>>50764772That pisses me the fuck off because I made a song that I rereleased shortly before VocaGathering because I didn't want to disobey the rules and made sure to read them thoroughly. I wonder if it's ran by a producer clique with biases in favor of certain people.
you guys never told me IA had her own vita game.
>>50765087The thing is that as long as they didn’t upload it to YouTube prior to the contest, it’s fair game. Doesn’t matter that they had an entire fucking video and song ready to go for a long time and already submitted it somewhere else; as long as it wasn’t public on YouTube they permit it. This is pretty ridiculous because it almost guarantees situations like this where someone already has some shit ready and dumps it to get extra attention. So you’ve got like 50% crap entries that are made by kids, 25% neat/funny stuff of varying quality by small or new producers, and then the top 25% is professional teams offloading crap they clearly made months in advance that just didn’t win other contests that they didn’t upload to YouTube. Anyway, here are some ones I liked:>neat songs https://youtu.be/ybnbZ1XmllE?si=eyHzzwbUehuiDJQkhttps://youtu.be/SytJo1bHrUs?si=bImjAZryUMLbzeVs>amusing songs https://youtu.be/2727UydaMA0?si=pf2s9TZcAPtzyQRbhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z-3feRp2B8

I'm an english producer, maybe it's a good thing that i don't use discord and only use twitter to promote my music because i've heard horror stories from that side of the community
On a second thought maybe being unpopular isn't that bad after all
>>50767419I exclusively promote in 1 or 2 places, I refuse to use Twitter and am only active in two public vsynth servers. There's not many places I feel comfortable going to because my teenage reputation was rancid and even if I worked hard to be a better person in adulthood, nobody cares, or they actively lie and make shit up about me to keep me buried in the ground so they can get the upper hand. I couldn't suggest avoiding interacting with others more if I tried. The Western community in 2018 was a poison, but now it feels like outright napalm at times.
who gives a fuck about your discord server boogeyman? wouldnt you all just be happier forgetting about that kinda stuff?
>>50767434For aspiring producers, I don't know if it inspires confidence if there's cliques of producers actively undermining other producers instead of silently disliking them like normal people would
>>50767428I just don't care for most of the english community's shenanigans in the first place and refuse to interact with them. I use Twitter, but I only use it to post a link to the song then I fuck off until I make a new one and never talk to people. I also make music just for the love of it and don't care about Miku Teto trends and all that garbage, I'm loyal to Gumi and the other few vocaloids I own.
>>50767434I mean I don’t care about the discord directly but you have to deal with this shit if you navigate ENG producers (or are one yourself), even if indirectly.
Nothing against Monochro but one part of Minimum Rage I always hated was the line>working for an hour costs as much as a sandwichIt makes absolutely no sense as written. How can working COST you? Obviously the intended meaning is “working for an hour you earn only enough to buy one sandwich,” and I assume enough people got that, but the sentence is just wrong and was probably brute forced to work within the meter. If it was in the verse that would be whatever, but in the chorus it’s grating to me. I would’ve made it something like>Working for an hour only pays for a sandwich>Work for a whole hour just to afford a sandwich
>>50767444>I'm loyal to Gumi and the other few Vocaloids I own.Extremely based, I'm wishing you luck with that.

I don't 100% find it unethical to reuse your MikuExpo song for something like vocagathering if you are a smaller unknown producer and didn't get any acknowledgement or whatever. But Feedback was literally a MikuExpo runner up that was shouted out by Crypton, I feel like that's kind of unfair to know you were a runner up and then purposefully wait to release the MV for another contest while already having the hype behind it due to Crypton's own personal endorsement. I'm pretty sure Vocacolle and even MikuExpo themselves even have a rule that you aren't allowed to submit songs you were already planning on entering for other contests too. But since vocagathering isn't REALLY a contest and the rankings are ceremonial, it's fine. But something like this had happened with vocacolle where there are actual prizes involved including being able to have your song added to project sekai, I imagine doing something like that would be WAY more controversial.

>>50775561little bit of column a little bit of column b. i do think some people's fandom of teto is kind of fake and performative(but you can say that about miku and other popular loids too), but she still is a generally popular loid now. However, it's no secret that a big reason she's used by everyone now is that she is a Japanese voicebank with the most accessible and easy English options. Before it was Gumi or Luka, but now it's Teto.
>>50775634The latter, a lot of Western producers refuse to use her and struggle to get past 200 views. Then when they use her, their channels suddenly get get over 1k, often far more, usually consistently. Very rarely a producer will break the mold, but not using SV, especially not SV Teto, is a bottleneck. I've begun to dislike her due to oversaturation. Sure, most Western Engloid used to be Gumi, Oliver, and Yohioloid, but that's still more variety than we have now. They also very rarely actually tune Teto. Chromatic is the worst offender, they not only don't tune Teto, but don't tune Miku, Rin, Len, Gumi, etc either.>t. Western Producer who has not made an original with Teto
>>50775634>However, it's no secret that a big reason she's used by everyone now is that she is a Japanese voicebank with the most accessible and easy English optionsI think it's because Teto and Kafu are the AI voicebanks thats still feel like a ""vocaloid"" voicebank and Teto just happend to have a better english but also devoted fanbase that will click on anything that relates to Teto. >>50776601>they admitted to stopping all mental health careDid he give a reason as to why?
>>50776615Apparently their therapist said something that offended them about their DID, I forgot the exact quote and forgot to screenshot it. This one is tangentially related to that, though. Not many people desperately need meds, but I think GHOST is someone who needs antipsychotics no matter what. I like their work, but I think they need to not have public social media.
>>50776639I don't know who this person is, but I just want to say that antipsychotics do not fix DID. DID is a lifelong issue that is dealt with by learning coping strategies and going therapy. The work is intensive, meds alone do not fix it.A lot of people are resistant to treating DID because being a plural system is comforting. That's the whole reason people end up with DID a lot of the time! It's self-comforting and self-protective to form dissociative identities.t. I have DID and have been on three different antipsychotics which did nothing for it at all except make me feel physically and psychologically fucking awful, but two and a half years of therapy consolidated my 8 identities to 3
>>50776639>>50776755I'll add that a lot of therapists really do not understand DID though. My first therapist thought I was making it up and my second therapist never heard terms like "plurality" or "system" used regarding DID before until I told her about it and what the culture of people with DID is like.
>>50776755>>50776760That's GHOST, also thank you so much for the information, I apologize for my previous statements. I hope he feels better away from social media, genuinely.I don't have DID, I do have 5 other things but none of them are anywhere close. So I don't know much about actually being plural, but I have no problem with people who are.

>>50777024How does one prove it? How do I check if the patient isn't just pretending?
>>50777044I'm not a psychologist but I've seen private evidence GHOST is legally diagnosed and not self diagnosing, as was popular for a while. That's all that matters to me, especially since DID is one of those conditions it's impossible to shop for because of the severity of the condition, like schizophrenia, and the rarity doesn't help.
>>50777024>tiktok faggots are lying about it for attention>oh but an americoid twitter using vocaloid producer, now THAT'S not for attention, they totally legit have it bro
>>50777094It's ok it's just roleplaying
>>50776944DID is real, it's rare, and it's difficult to live with. People like to make it out to be something cute and quirky but it's not.I remember for many years on /b/ and especially on /x/ people would make threads all the time asking eachother how to make "tulpas." I haven't been on either board for a long time but I don't imagine either board is better now than they used to be; but these people were basically brute-forcing DID for themselves because they thought it would be fun.DID stands for "dissociative identity disorder," meaning a person has dissociative identities. That's all to say, a person gets broken up into multiple individual identities which often aren't aware of eachother, usually as a defense mechanism for coping with PTSD or CPTSD. People with DID usually have at least one identity which is a "caretaker" identity, and often they'll have at least one identity that is sort of like an infantilized version of themselves. The caretaker identity is protective and the infantilized identity is vulnerable, and when the identities become aware of eachother the caretaker identity will "pilot" the body to protect the whole person from more trauma especially if there is an infantilized identity that is at risk of being harmed.>>50777044It's outlined in the DSM-5 but I haven't read it myself. Basically talk to your doctor, therapist, or psychiatrist a whole lot.Did you know that, in the US at least, faking a mental illness is categorized as a mental illness in and of itself?

i'm curious since the next vomas is coming, are people not allowed to sell lewd doujinshi there anymore? haven't seen anything on my feed recentlyconsidering i kinda saw some old books that were released during vomas, latest one i saw was from the 41st. is it maybe because official companies are also making appearances there via their own booths? or is my feed just not personalized enough lol

Everyone keeps complaining about Rabbit Hole being way too sexual, but why is no one talking about Animal, a song about literal animalistic sex and arguably much more explicit and horny than Rabbit Hole?

So if GHOST has multiple personalities if they all did music he could form a band all on his own! That's cool isn't it? He could also change the styles depending on who's currently active.

if you wanted to introduce someone to vocaloid who had never heard it before but was curious about the concept after you explained it, what song would you pick?

If PokeMiku is the standard they're setting for Mirai's LED screen stuff, then I feel like there's less to worry about. You can only really go up from 2024 MikuExpo
>>50783713just some random tetoslop since that's all they're going to end up listening to anyway

PokeMiku Live's visuals were really nice. I hope it's not just a one time thing where TPC bankrolls everything and CFM will step up the performances for Magical Mirai too.
>>50784238I've seen people comparing it to Miku With You in China this last year. So I imagine if those two events are kind of the baseline of what their future LED concerts will be like, I imagine it will be a good direction for Miku concerts. MikuExpo will still probably not be as high effort and be kind of basic with its LED for now, but I imagine they won't skimp out with Mirai
>>50776008listening to it for the first time. the song is obviously very blunt with its uncomfortable themes, but people acting like this song is something unheard of and crazy and crossing a line for a vocaloid producer to release is a bit silly
>>50784238As someone that was there, yeah it was a cool show. But it's not about pretending that Miku is on stage anymore, it was a spectacle that used all of the screens on set (both screens, those pokeballs are actually round screens, and they used the panels used for sports events, like at the beginning when she threw a ball, it actually went around the whole staduim) so you were busy watching everything happening around you. If they are going to do something of this level for MM, it means having to make a bunch of effects and backgrounds for all new songs, all they're probably just leaving old songs as Miku singing against a black void like the Lawson live.

>>50784322Yeah I'm more concerned with the other things people went through, but the Covetous thing was a funny overreaction
>>50784329If they're going to aim closer to what the MWY shows in China were doing, they'll probably stick with bigger LEDs that allow for some songs to get flashier stage designs or pop out effects but still keep the focus with Miku on stage normally both to reuse old motion files and keep some level of fun immersion
>>50776008Deleting your shit is such an annoying way of attention whoring.
>>50777525Yeah, a big factor in tulpas is that you can literally kill them off and also have “servos” that are just inanimate thought forms designed to accomplish a mental task. They DO sometimes occur in people involuntarily and in similar circumstances as DID, but it’s not the same. I remember reading an article from a guy who was abused as a kid and developed a rather vivid gulps of a teenager who “protected” him, but it never took over his body or anything. It was a distinct personality. It also banished itself when he got older.

>>50794063that is a tactic called dynamic pricing. prices surge when supply is low and demand is high.the FTC are currently suing Live Nation and Ticketmaster for doing this, among other strategies, to generate more profit.
>>50794063Only going to the LA show this timeDon’t need any more near miss car crashes while I’m waiting in line
I'll probably never go to Miku Expo again. Ticket prices looked even higher this year at face value, and I don't feel like spending $400+ for 2 decent seats to listen to a setlist that won't satisfy me anyway. I would go to MM if I ever end up in Japan when it is going on, but I usually don't plan my trips not around concerts or events.

These last few days I've been seeing people trying to bring more attention to female vocaloid producers in the western space, but the events and shoutouts they're trying to do have been highlighting transwomen at the same time, which even without being directly transphobic, isn't it a little weird to act like they don't get enough spotlight considering most of the most popular western vocaloid producers at the moment are trans or gender non-conforming in some way?
>>50805040It's certainly not a good look, here's some Western woman producers I know of:>Undecided>QueenPB (on hiatus)>Umbrabyte>Ferry (kinda big, but also Russian. Produces mainly in English so she counts)>Ponkansoup (on hiatus, SEA but produces in English)I'm trans myself and noticed a lot are very openly trans, so I tried to select the ones I either know are cisf or am pretty sure about being so, though I think of them only Undecided is open about it. It's good to know a variety of producers no matter the reason.
