Started Umineko and I can't stop hearing the Takano in Eva's voice. Who the hell though it was a good idea to reuse voice actors like that for unrelated characters?
>>50783050What's your first favorite ship?
>>50783784Eva ends up a far more interesting character than Takano, so it's more like it's Eva's voice. Personally, I don't even think it fits Takano. It's way too smug for the nurse who shouldn't stand out too much. Takano should sould more like Kyrie.

>>50781994It's a little bit canon. A little bit forbidden, because some people don't understand what "canon" means. Canon means accurate, proper, necessary. It doesn't mean silly, stupid, childish. It's not the kind of thing OP would come up with, but he would post it as a false flag. Because it scares him. It angers him. It confuses him. Shion is Keiichi's wife because it actually makes sense, even if it's strange and foreboding.

>>50784315Cute!
Canon talk is always cringe
>>50785177The fact that it is canon (as in it actually happened).
>>50781987Nope. He only dies in the Tatari and Tsumihoroboshi timelines. Gou was lying.Meakashi's epilogue says he was still alive in 2005, living in Tokyo.R07 always wanted to spare him just couldn't fit it well in the original story (The original ending of Minagoroshi had him getting beaten in a freaking mahjong game with the club, with Keiichi and Akasaka, to stop abusing Satoko, but it was dumped since it broke the arc's pacing and atmosphere, and that's how we end up with the arrest ending of Minagoroshi proper).
>>50786478>R07 always wanted to spare him just couldn't fit it well in the original storyThen maybe he shouldn't have gone out of his way to describe him as only not raping Satoko because she was (still) too young for him, going out of his way to humiliate her in front of his "friends", and after he decides to ditch Hinamizawa as soon as he finds the money, that he wants to make sure to completely ruin her life beforehand, just for funsies.Ryukishi deliberately wrote him to be as monstrous as possible to the point where he'd probably be as inhuman as Okonogi or Nomura and her employers if he wasn't just a petty crook. His entire redemption arc just doesn't work because we already saw more than enough of his character through his own thoughts to know that he's just a loathsome and irredeemable person.
>>50786533Oh, I don't disagree it's a bad idea, I just mean it's something he had in mind even during the original series run, just couldn't fit it there.
>>50786533>he's just a loathsome and irredeemable person. Not really, he isn't half as bad as Takano. If she ended up being forgiven, there is no reason Teppei doesn't get a similar treatment.
>>50786649What helps Takano is that she's portrayed as a pretty pitiful woman throughout. And at the end she signs off on the deaths of hundreds of people but only in her capacity as a cog in a bigger machine, a machine that spits her out when she's no longer useful.Teppei is going to have to suffer a whole lot and be humbled in order to put his character in the beginning of a redemption that not everyone will accept.
>>50786619Sure sure, but like, if he actually wanted to do that, maybe he should've actually made the slightest effort to make it work instead of constantly doubling down on Teppei as a 100% evil figure.Even if was just giving him a few shreds of humanity like giving him a smidge of guilt or regret over not being able to control his violent temper, it would've helped to make him look human, but it's completely incomprehensible to write Teppei as someone who's glad that Satoko is literally dying from a stress-related fever because it'll let him search Satoshi's room without interruption, and wanting him to still be forgivable. There's just nothing remotely human about him; Ryukishi made an active effort to depict him as a demon from start to finish. His entire "characters are actors and I can make them do whatever I want without worrying about consistency and the audience should just be grateful for it" shtick is just utterly delusional on his part.>>50786649>Not really, he isn't half as bad as Takano.Only because he didn't have any opportunities for evil on the same scale; but you're going to have a hard time convincing me that Teppei wouldn't sell out the entire village for a couple bucks if given the option.Ryukishi actually made an effort to give Takano a humanizing edge; all her worst actions are spurred on by others, done in desperation, and/or in service of a higher goal; and even at her worst, in Minagoroshi, she decided to kill V̵i̵e̵r̵ Satoko instead of selling her to T̵h̵e̵ ̵T̵h̵r̵e̵e̵ ̵K̵i̵n̵g̵s̵ Tokyo as a guinea pig. She's not a good person, but there was at least a semblance of a foundation upon which a redemption could be built, unlike with Teppei.
>>50786478We know he is killed by the Sonozakis, read the VN.
>>50786718NTA, but to suggest that Takano is redeemable in anyway is completely asinine. Neither her nor Teppei should ever have redemption arcs, the sheer stupidity of such a thing is mind boggling. That said, Takano is far worse, its not debatable with making massive leaps in logic.
>>50786893He'd definitely sell out the village. He is a scumbag, abuser who'd do alot of bad shit for money, I don't think he'd vivisect a woman while she was alive just for the fuck of it. I think you are doing a lot of mental gymnastics to try and say the pretty woman is somehow less evil. No, she is objectively worse. >>50787399
>>50787399>>50787401Why is it asinine and non debatable when it's exactly what happens?Everyone in literature has a road to, if not complete redemption, then a partial atonement and humbling.Especially in Matsuribayashi when she was stopped before she even went through with the worst of it. Only someone like Rika who could see other timelines could even understand and offer forgiveness to sins yet to be committed.I'm not saying it isn't worth critiquing how Ryukishi went about it, but you're going way too emotionally hard on something that already happened. It's not cause she's pretty, it's because Ryukishi decided to go for it and have Rika/Hanyuu stop that bullet.
>>50787421Once you commit murder personally multiple times and not just murder, but horrible torturous murder and are then shown to order the murder of 1,000s how are you somehow not as bad as a degenerate gambler loser who is shown only to be a child abuser and a loan shark/scammer? Both are awful, but the magnitude is what makes the argument asinine. You are going to bat for Unit 731 scientists or Himmler saying "yeah those guys are redeemable for sure." Does that not sound odd to you? We know that Rika didn't have a close connection to her mother from Rei, but thats still Rika's fucking mother being vivisected, while she is still alive and can feel everything. A truly comically evil act and if thats not irredeemable I genuinely don't know what is. Would you defend a baby rapist or someone who sets dogs on fire for fun as "redeemable?"
>>50787421>>50787436Going to samefag a bit, to backtrack just a tad. I didn't read your last sentence. I'm more irritated with how dogshit Matsuribayashi is then I am with you anon. The problem here is that Ryukishi wrote himself into a corner if he did want to redeem either of those characters. The acts he had them commit in the timelines we are shown are far too severe to ever redeem those characters.
>>50787436>>50787439I actually don't know if Rika knows about the way she died. At least I don't remember. She only found out Takano at the end of Minagoroshi right? Would be interested if that would effect her choices in any way.I'm going to hold off on the personal moral call because I'm not feeling the call of the fifty post ethics debate today. I'd rather explore if the reader can sympathize with her to the point of understanding (not complete forgiveness). Let me propose a hypothetical. If the reader was the jury, would they withhold the death penalty? Let's say the prosecution laid out all your points and all her crimes through the story. Then the defense explains the whole sob story about her childhood mistreatment and insanity. Then we'll get a bit fantasy with it and the prosecution goes into Takano's "potential" crimes of mass murder in other timelines. Then the defense shows the "potential" punishments she went through in those worlds while also pointing at her place in the organization that while being a shotcaller wasn't even near the top. Finally the defense brings up the possibility of her being under the influence of the syndrome, her scratching her neck to muddy the waters.I believe that many in the jury upon witnessing her last remorseful pleas would be willing to stay the death penalty as long as she serves a long sentence. Of course there are always people like you who understandably will feel like a criminal shouldn't get away at all with brutal crimes regardless of the extenuating circumstances. I totally understand your point.Additionally to your point I believe there's an emotional difference most people will feel between the torture of a child and torturing to death an adult. Let alone a baby rapist or a dog killer. Takano is technically worse but what Teppei does is more visceral and unforgivable. Even if let's say Takano was a man (you're not wrong to at least be suspicious of motivations when judging between ugly men and pretty women) what Teppei did is to most people more disagreeable. We can see this kind of thing in the prison system all the time for instance, there's tons of killers and even torturers in jail but it's the child abusers that get killed no questions asked. People on the outside even cheer this on.I want to cut Ryukishi some slack here, it's not like Takano is getting completely forgiven like it's some shounen. She's getting spared. At it's heart Ryu is trying really hard to tie in the notion of sacrificing one for the sake of everyone. He wanted to tell a story of overturning human sacrifice. And even loftier a story about how to wash away sins universally, almost even in a Christian sense. But that's where we get the trouble, mercy for the criminal is cruelty to the victim.Anyway I don't think Takano in the story is fully forgiven. Ryukishi wanted to spare her from sacrifice in a very religious sense, and only present her sympathetically as a broken woman at the start of her atonement journey. Sympathy isn't necessarily forgiveness but I can see how it could bleed into it.
>>50787542I feel high effort coherent arguments deserve a (You), to answer your first question I truly believe most juries would immediately give her the death penalty. Again, its not even due to her committing murder, but the means through which she does so and in the case of The Great Hinamizawa Disaster, the sheer number of people she ordered the deaths of, many of whom were children. I'm baffled that you think anyone would let her get off with anything less then life in prison for that, most I'd hope would want her to hang. Again, if in a fit of rage she killed Rika's mom via gunshot I could buy "hey it was the syndrome." Not a preplanned, deliberate, torturous murder. This is all a critique lobbied towards Ryukishi at the end of the day. I think part of the reason you are arguing vehemently about this is Teppei is a more "human" villain. Somebody who everyone possibly through a couple of degrees of separation has had to deal with, a familar scum. The reason I used real life examples of war criminals, is very few ot us, thankfully, have had any dealings, even with degrees of seperation, with someone as horrific as Takano.
>>50787542>>50787682I'm going to samefag to put a pin in my side of the argument, feel free to consider it a concession if you like, but I'm tired kek. Yeah, I think Matsuribayashi would be substantially better if Takano was brutally killed in the end. Because what I as a reader have seen makes me feel that she deserves it. Miotsukushi atleast crushes her with a boulder so thats a step in the right direction.
>>50787687Nah no need to concede I'm just playing the literal devil's advocate. I really loved Matsuri and the passionate way in which Rika caught the bullet intended for Hanyuu then preached down to Takano. But I'm pretty open to your criticism, I often despise characters that get off lighter than they should but not so much in this case for some reason. I'm trying to put my feelings into logical words as I type. The main point I forgot to make however is that while Takano wasn't completely forgiven, just shown sympathy at her lowest. While Teppei IS actually granted a full forgiveness in shitsugou. Which makes him all the more hateable, because he hasn't even gone through anything! Just granted it cause he had a random change of heart.
There's too many green hairs
>>50787710Hey, we can both agree Gou/Sotsu is a pile of dogshit that is better forgotten.
>>50787542>I actually don't know if Rika knows about the way she diedIn Saikoroshi she says she knew what killed them and that it's a little on them for not being careful around such a shady organization, but no more details were given.
>>50778348god bless you anon
>>50787831True, Teppei would never stop being abusive to Satoko.
>>50788934Kill yourself
>>50787401>I don't think he'd vivisect a woman while she was alive just for the fuck of it.Sure, but that's because it doesn't interest him and there's nothing in it for him. I strongly doubt he'd oppose it on moral grounds.Takano didn't do it "just" for the sake of it either. Heinous as her actions are, there's at least some scientific merit in it, and the lack of anesthetic thing is only in the manga to my memory.Plus, I don't think she would've even come up with the idea if Okonogi hadn't suggested murdering Rika's parents first. She's more of a follower than she imagines herself to be and her worst deeds are all spurred on by others seeking to take advantage of her, unlike Teppei, where it's all him. The only nasty thing I really remember Takano doing just for the hell of it entirely of her own volition is spreading her occult stories to people she should clearly realize were already going mad (it always backfires and either ruins her plot entirely like with Shion or makes things harder like with Rena), but that's a relatively minor thing compared to the other stuff she does.Like, I'm not saying that Takano isn't a huge piece of shit, but just that she's only like 95% evil and there's actually sympathetic motives that humanize her and allow room for a forgiveness resolution, unlike with Teppei, who is written to be 100% evil at every turn with absolutely no room for forgiveness, which is all Ryukishi's own doing.

>>50789198Post bwcqueen4.jpg
>>50786893You aren't comparing them based on their actions, but on how rotten or evil you think they are which is subjective and is something you can't scale because Teppei will never be a similar situation without drastically changing his characater. Takano's actions are objectively way worse, and she does them every single time. Saying that Teppei is worse than her is like saying your local thug is worse than a genocidal maniac, sure you may hate the thug more because it's more personal but the other will always be worse. (Although in Takano's case it feels also personal. No idea how could you spin her killing Satoko as a mercy kill lol)Putting Teppei on the right path should be easier than Takano, but just like another anon said it isn't worth the time as it doesn't contribute much and many won't accept it.
>>50789539NTA and I haven't been participating in this discussion but I don't think you can scale how evil someone is based off their actions alone, you absolutely must consider their motives and why they do the things they do. For as fucked and wicked Takano can be there is at least a justification she uses for her (some) of her actions doing it out of love for her grandfather willing to do whatever to make his dream come true. Now that is something I think most people can agree is a very admirable and good thing to do (ignoring what his dream was and what she did to achieve it) but with teppei he literally has no greater motive than whats best for him at this moment. If he finds it enjoyable and something he can do he will do it, he does not care for ANYONE but himself and like that one anon said I have no doubt in my mind he would torture and kill everyone in the village if he could get away with it and get rich off doing so. He is sadistic for the sake itself, no other motive than just wanting to cause pain and suffering because he's finds it fun. Takano is sadistic as well but she still cares for people, still loves the ones she kills and even feels guilt for doing SOME of her actions. Her redemption makes more sense and is way more believable than the genuine sociopath Teppei
