Honestly S1’s VR catalogue is kind of milquetoast if I’m being honest. I’ve gone through the whole thing item by item and while there are a few stand out hits, overall it’s very average. It’s not a budget concern either - their latest releases definitely got the correct amount of money funneled into them, rather it’s the plain jane ladies they recruit. Still, it is rather fun checking out their low quality 2017 releases and compare them with what we have today. Things are only looking up from here once we can get some higher powered headsets on the market, because even by today’s standards things are looking very good. Time to goon for a few hours. See ya!

By the time you’ve saved up enough shekels maybe opt for the steam frame if it’s out by then, though rumor has it the specs (lenses, resolution) will only be marginally better than the quest 3. If blowing half a g for jav is too much for you, cheap out and get a quest 3s, or in worst case a 2. Honestly, the 2 is what I started with 3 years ago…and I hadn’t used VR before then and I was still completely blown away. You can’t really go wrong there. Do note there are some chinese brands you can look into, but I’m not too sure how well they would play with my setup. I like using what I know works and heresphere+xbvr are rock solid companions with the quest. Also be aware that while the 3 has the best lenses and is future proof for at least another 2-3 years, if you do opt for one of the cheaper sets you will be annoyed at how often you have to move your head in order to keep the picture from becoming blurry due to the lens tech. The jav makers aren’t putting out anything that’s pushing the envelope right now though. By the time the codecs are ready for true 8K jav we will have a new generation of headsets out, most likely with micro-oled displays which will be glorious but for now the quest line is the is an adequate tool for the job
