VNDB founder passed away
RIP, been using this site daily for like 5 years at least. A true hero.
>>50780270Damn, I hope at least the site will prevail. VNDB is one of the best things to have come out of the English speaking side of otaku.
Someone better archive his codebases, dude was all self-hosted. RIP.
>>50780270Yeah this is a massive loss, actual fucking treasure of a site.
>>50780388He was a big believer in OSS, all the code is freely available. The challenge is the data.
>>50780430>The challenge is the data.You won't believe ithttps://vndb.org/d14
>>50780430All of the code as well is on self-hosted git instances. Better mirror those first. Looking at vndb's codebase it's all BDFL-tier perl, which leads me to believe he has been been maintaining the infra himself. there's real risk of lots of data loss here when the bills stop being paid.
>>50780439i have all stuff but the images that currently are being limited i guess lots of people are trying to mirror it
He was pretty much the sole developer. I really wonder what will happen to VNDB now. RIP

>>50780270Genuinely sad. Respected this guy for taking an initiative and both anchoring and broadening the fandom.
Bro read and reviewed Sona-Nyl, as late as the beginning of the month. R.I.P.
Rip to the based guy. Best site for otakus indeed. Do we know how he died? I don't know info about him but he should have been in his 30s-40s. He posted a week ago too so it does seem sudden instead of a long illness etc. Sad regardless of the reason.
>>50780959It was confirmed a suicide
>>50781704source
Why did he an hero?
>>50781745source
>>50780437discussions/reviews aren't there afaik
>>50780270I'm sure all the youtubers, twitch streamers, crunchyroll, redditors, tiktok, instagram e-thots, twitter and all these zoomers who are all also in here, on r/4chan, are all real sad about something they don't know anything about but they're really sad. Last time I checked, this the otaku culture, the only thing that remains, the zoomoid reddit otaku culture.I don't find genuine or trust a single post in here or anywhere else. Cancer mourning anything? Oh, ok.
>>50785627Thanks for the bump, GPT.
>>50781740>>50781856just google it bro
>>50780270vax status?
>>50792401Not the time
>>50780959my guess is heart attack, the guy is already in his 50s with an unhealthy sys admin job, well at least he is free before he becomes a senile old man
>>50792401extended his life
>>50780270Never cared much for the people behind the scenes of things like this, but if anything it was a sign of good management that I didn't have to. I'll be genuinely upset if the site goes to shit due to whoever takes the reins.
