Having lots of open space for drops also helps do quests where I have to scrap 13 of an item and gather a bunch of the Sendai class and modernize a light cruiser with 5 heavy cruisers twice because I have enough spare room to keep whatever they want to make us collect. The equipment limit is actually a bigger concern than the ship limit, and you buy both types of slots with the same purchase. I love the new trend of giving equipment slots as rewards. Every time they add more equipment slots I fill them up within the week.
