Why not shapeshifting, when tengu were traditionally shapeshifters (the third greatest, after kitsunu-tanuki duo!), and Aya is already able to change whether she has wings or not? Because I'm pretty sure that ZUN uses outfits as stand-ins for the full-fledged shapeshifting in Aya's case; symbolical shapeshifting, so to speak, with wings being the single exception.

As if I would ever fall in love with a lying, loser devil who either wants to eat or enslave me.Firstly, a Tengu is a totally dis-honest creature. When a crow stole my lunch, it didn't also play with my heart, and I learned the lesson that leaving food unattended is asking to be stolen from. The Youkai though, will hurt and manipulate me constantly and I will learn nothing because there's always another machination, another scheme.Second, Tengu, with their rigid hierarchy are universally losers. They cannot advance in life and remain not just stagnant, but in perpetual decline as they cannot benefit from chaos that they did not engineer. To submit yourself to such a thing is to withdraw from the game of life.Third, Youkai are inherently predatory, as they let this define their entire being. I know better to trust a monster who submits herself to an alleged 'natural order' on top of a clearly artificial society. In the best case scenario, I'll be enslaved and be forced to witness the backwards and evil nature of the Tengu Clans first-hand which would at least be humorous, but It's not what I'm supposed to be doing. In the worst case, I'll be dinner.Perhaps you think it's foolish, the Tengu Empire is vast and seemingly overwhelming right? But I merely ignore the tyranny and that power disappears.
