Beat Takeshi does not trust Toranpu-san>Whenever Trump shows up, it always feels like there’s something fishy going on. I can’t help but think that he's actually hiding oil and is the only one making a killing off it. He’s telling lies again, or at least, that’s the vibe I get. I just can't trust Trump.
>>50889053No one does, Mr. Kitano
I want to watch a movie, something atmospheric or nostalgic. Like Iwai stuff. Happyend (2024) was also good. But not necessarily just iyashikei, I need something going on.Any suggestions?
I'm looking for japanese documentaries about societal matters like NEETs, work culture, the gambling world, etc. Any recommendations? And where could I find this type of stuff more generally? Raws or subs it doesn't really matter though no hardsubs would be nice

>>50892192The live-action is well done. It follows the same bittersweet story as the original anime with more plot lines and scenes added that mostly enhance it. I slightly prefer this rendition mainly because it has double the runtime, which allows it to flesh out the parts where the original felt rushed, specifically during the adult chapters.

Fujiwara had their "first solo live show in 29 years" (which isn't really true, I remember they did a show back in 2021). The concept was that Fujiwara would perform Hero Show-like skits written for them by other comedians.I didn't find it that interesting honestly, it just made me think they're funnier when they're inflicting self-harm for laughs. During the kaiju skit, Fujimon made a reference to his hit-and-run saying "you need to report if you get in an accident" which was annoying to see he's still pretending he wasn't drunk driving.I think the best skit was the one that Kamaitachi's Yamauchi wrote. They made a sugar glass bottle (pretty sure I've seen these same bottles in other Yoshimoto videos) into a club so that Haranishi could snap it in half and smash it on his head which I thought was pretty smart. Also stuck his head in front of a dry ice cannon.

>>50904471i finally realized who konomin reminds me of
The main reason why Japanese cinema never got anything close to the global popularity that anime has is the ethnic unfamiliarity with Asian faces that non-Asians (especially Westerners) have. While the racially ambiguous art-style of anime makes it easy for anyone around the world to watch, even live action adaptations of anime are limited by characters looking 'off' to non-Asians when they are played by Japanese actors. (This is also why Korean dramas are mainstream in Asia but more niche in the West, but are still mainstream with Asian diaspora in the West as well.)Korean dramas have managed to gain significant global popularity despite this big handicap, but they've basically reached everyone in the world who are open to watching shows with only Asians first. Chinese dramas have managed to carve out their own global niche following with the help of their massive diaspora, but without that, it's hard to see Japan ever matching the popularity of Korean dramas due to their huge first-mover advantage. For years, Netflix have carried heaps of J-dramas and regularly recommends them to K-drama viewers, but that hasn't had any effect in creating consistent global viewership for them like K-dramas have.
>>50904580I think you're overthinking it. It's just that there aren't many great Jdrama to catch people.
>>50891775Doguchi in the 80s was so cute, too bad she hit the wall fast.

>>50907371stipulation is that he wears it whenever he's out or on tv
>>50907371I wonder how many celebrities buy their own $300k watch vs. get it gifted for PR purposes. Must be kind of embarrassing being a publicly recognizable face but having to waste your own money on stuff like that
>>50887251middle lady is very cute
>>50907984Not all recognizable celebs are on this level. You need to have a certain level of success for expensive accessories companies to seek you. You would never see them gifting such watches to someone like Yamada Yuki or Chidori's Nobu, despite being very recognizable.
>>50905237If you have nothing better to watch.
>>50907984>but having to waste your own money on stuff like thatIt's the complete opposite. Spending lavishly without a care is what celebrities do, makes them feel superior. Even mid level geinins do that. With that being said, it's not a common thing to give celebrities something that costs 1.5 million yen, it needs to be someone of Beat Takeshi's caliber, and there's not many like him. Sure they'll get some eyes on their products, but it's more like an honor to have Takeshi wear their watches.

does anyone know where i can watch old broadcasts from the kts kagoshima tv station specifically from march, july, and november 2018?
>>50922540Beat Takeshi said this when Hosoki was at the height of her career>People like that are just zashiki geinins (entertainers who perform at banquets or parlors to entertain guests). When company presidents would visit high-end restaurants, she was often called in to perform. She’d suck up to the CEOs, flatter them, and sometimes give them a pep talk, saying things like, “You can’t go on like that. Have you been visiting your ancestors’ graves?” She’d switch between praising and criticizing them. But in the end, she’d say something like, “But you know, it’ll be fine. I’m telling you, you’ll succeed,” and make sure they left feeling good. It’s nothing special. Just a typical parlor entertainer. But as people today have become more mentally fragile and started clinging to things like fortune-telling, that’s how those kinds of people emerged. (this was during the 2000s when religious cults and fortune-telling were popular). Back in the day, they were just common parlor entertainers. And now they’re being called “Sensei, Sensei”. It’s a real headache, isn’t it?”

>>50928122lol at least there are subbed jdramas on Netflix/D+/Prime now.

We love and respect Ano.
>>50928784Currently watching it and it's pretty wholesome so far, mostly focused on the girl. The Meiji era is one of my favorite historical periods from Japan but I never really cared about Lafcadio Hearn. I always avoided him for the fucking weeb he was. I wonder if they'll show Soseki taking over his position. That should be fun. Also, fuck whoever rips the Nip subs from the Asadoras. They're always messed up.
>>50927348Agreed>>50927504I think it works better for Japan as it's still made for themselves without caring about exporting. It's anime that might cause some concern. While in Korea they seem rather affected by external influences or maybe those articles are exaggerating. I watch Korean movies sometimes but not enough to tell what the changes are.

Suzuki Koji (68), the creator of Ring has passed away
>>50932559A great loss. He's one of my favorite Japanese novelists, I own many of his books and reread them many times.
I'm about to watch this. Wish me luck.
>>50933067Miike Takashi has a really special way of blending grounded stories with flashes of batshit insanity that's so slept on, like the first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes of Dead or Alive 1.
>>50933171Lot at the ending. That was a real Deus Ex Machina.
>>5093306720 years later and my friends still give shit for forcing them to watch DoA 2. Enjoy, anon.

Any crime films were adult criminals have a good vocabulary? The few yakuza films I've watched have been unbearable. All they do is scream てめえ and ぶっ殺せよ. It's worse than watching shit with black or latino gangsters, except moonspeak.

Beat Takeshi introduces his dear African friend, Zomahon-san>Takeshi: We have someone here named Zomahon. He’s been living in Japan for decades, but when I mentioned the price hike just now, he was like "What’s that?">Zomahon: I’d like to ask Prime Minister Takaichi to stop making foreigners with permanent residency, who are essentially paying for their residency, pay even more in taxes

>>50933974I bet most of my japanese サラリーマン friends would love that life instead. Having golden week last until wednesday and being forced to go back to the relentless grind on thursday is fucking hell. At least コンビニ life is less stressful and you get more free time to play video games with your friends again. Too bad boomer parents can't understand this and will get ashamed of you.
>>50935556>Too bad boomer parents can't understand this and will get ashamed of you.Not a boomer, but I'd be ashamed of you as well. You don't need to become something that requires a degree, but at least become something proper like a train driver.I thought about also adding "nurse" there, but that requires a degree in Japan after all.

Ornithologist Beat Takeshi.
Just watched Dead or Alive 2 and it was inferior to the first one. The plot of gangsters going back to their roots reminded me a little of Sonatine.
What the fuck am I watching? What's this penis head thing?
>>509392452 really felt like Miike was emulating Kitano Takeshi. There's even Hanabi elements.>>50939450My personal understanding is that it's a callback to the surreal nonsensical ending of 1.
It's amazing how she keeps getting more sexier since I first saw her in that GTO remake

>>50939661>My personal understanding is that it's a callback to the surreal nonsensical ending of 1.The ending is kinda similar to Shinya Tsukamoto Tetsuo The Iron Man.
>>50940453Miike and Tsukamoto are friends so I'm not surprised if he was paying homage to his most notable film. Tsukamoto also played a cameo role in Dead or Alive 2. I'm itching to rewatch the trilogy now, haven't rewatched it in over a decade.

>>50945967Is he the first Japanese director to film a French language movie?
>>50946401Nah, Oshima did one way back in the 80's and I'm pretty sure there'd be some earlier examples. French co-produce east asian movies often. Recently Kore-eda also did a French film after his Palme win and Kiyoshi remade Serpent's Path in France a couple of years ago.
>>50946401Finally a movie I can self-insert as the white girl
>>50936303Japs and their X, as usual. Disgusting culture.
>Two lesbians in a house for mentally disabled people spend three and a half hours discussing how bad capitalism is.>That is basically the entire film.>It is slow, repetitive, painfully self-important, and almost aggressively uninterested in the viewer. Nothing develops, nothing surprises, and after a while the political dialogue starts to feel less like insight and more like punishment.>Watching it felt like being trapped in someone else’s seminar, except the seminar never ends and nobody is allowed to make a point in under ten minutes.>It was torture.Hamagoatchi does it again!
>>50949766Is this about "All of a Sudden"?
