Thanks so much to the anons who reccomended dream rescue to me, literally such a huge improvement after applying it and re applying it a couple times over over this week or so.. Still have to fix up her clothes and hair styling but yalls advice saved her..
>>50889578Damn, that cleared right up. Glad to hear she's on the mend, anon!
>>50889578>picare you sure it was not morning rescue?
How hard of an undertaking is making a life-size bjd (over 150cm) if you have sculpting experience? i am interested in these dolls after seeing some on social media and got a couple blind box dolls, but i had the thought of possibly making my own for art, but life sized so it can do things like wear people clothes. Does anyone have a guide or advice for this project? The guides in the OP don't have a diy section that i saw.
>>50895113You might be better off getting a sex doll honestly. I think there are a couple very large bjd floating around, like there was this maybe 1/2 scale at nycdollcon, although I dont know if its a mannequin or a doll. There might be blogs/profiles of people 3d printing larger bjds and that might be more applicable. I dont know how structural 3d printing is at those scales since you'd need some strong cord to hold her together.
>>50895113>>50895126There are some bigger dolls for sure (old Papermoon Chii is picrel,) but they're expensive and posing becomes a challenge at scale due to weight and gravity. I know there are some truly incredible Japanese porcelain dolls that are life-sized as well, but works of art of that nature are one in a million. I believe some people have 3D printed their own life-sized dolls over the years; not /here/, but I have seen them posted around. For the 1/2 scale, Dollmore and Obitsu both have some considerably large dolls to study. You could absolutely make your own if you have the time, the energy, and the dedication, but that goes for most things. Material will be very important to consider... vinyl is hard to cast at home, resin is heavy and would only be heavier at scale. 3D printing is an option, and it would be lighter, but it would take months of work to print, sand, assemble, and detail such a thing (to say nothing of filament costs.) On the other hand, there is no way to do this cheaply. The way it is assembled will also be something to consider: stringing the parts together with elastic is common and simple, but at that scale you'll damn near be using bungee cords. Compared to making some sort of armature, however, it might be the best way.Sex dolls are an option at this scale, but come with their own concerns, chief among them once again being weight (steel frames + silicone or tpe bodies are also quite heavy.) The materials are also more fragile compared to the resin/vinyl of BJDs. Carving one out of wood might be a good option, but that would be an insane project and you'd likely be trailblazing on that front. I know nothing about porcelain and so on, so I cannot advise there- but making one out of plush materials (or buying one premade) is an option as well at this point. Poseable/articulated plushes are considerably lighter, can still be dressed up, and their designs have come a long way (mostly because people also buy those for sexually gratifying purposes.)So what it comes down to is, what would be your end goal with this creation, anon? If it's just to create it, follow your dreams and work with what you know. If it's to make something that can be played with later, you'll need it to have an amount of structural integrity so it can be manipulated and stand up to the friction of changing clothes and posing. If it's for something you can share with others, sculpt it in 3D and print it in small-scale until you have something working before you start going for the full-scale build. In all cases, I wish you luck! I hope one day you make your doll dream a reality.
>>50895113Time consuming at the very least. You don't just have to sculpt everything, you also have to design to joints for functionality, and make molds for casting. Want jointed fingers? You just made two pieces into 30, which is 30 molds instead of two.It sounds like you are not super familiar with BJDs; I would recommend getting a few to at least get a hands on idea of the way they work.Den of Angels has a subforum for BJD making; I think you need an accout to access it though.
>>50895113There's a japanese maker who makes life size (slightly smaller than life size) anime bjd with elf ears. They're 3d printed. Don't know the handle but iirc the doll ojiisan mangaka has retweeted stuff about them. I believe they sell them for around 350,000 yen and I remember a disclaimer about the materials
>>50895126That is indeed a doll. It's a Logan Dolls Valentine. The usual size is around 40cm but the giant one does actually pose like a real BJD. It's pretty cool. I know the kits were offered previously. Not sure about future offerings.>>50895113It's doable in that it's been done previously, but even just a normal sized doll is a bigger undertaking than most people realize. Try starting small and taking it from there.
>>50895113A life sized strung BJD sounds like an accident waiting to happen. If a leg kicks and your finger gets caught in the joint it might just break a bone. Not to mention the cost and weight of the whole thing.I think an outer shell on top of a skeleton would be the way to go. The dude that this anon >>50895367 mentioned (unfortunately I don't have the twitter name saved either) uses FDM printers to create the shell and visible joints combined with off the shelf hardware like pvc pipes to save time and money.
>>50895113>I don't even own a doll but I want to sculpt a super special oneIf I had a penny for every time I heard this I'd have a lot of dolls. You should be more humble anon. People in Asia get lessons from masters to learn the craft.Lots of wannabe artists in the West don't even like dolls but want to sculpt one because they can use some Zbrush and imagine they can make a profit, cause dolls fetch high prices. As a consequence the Western market is filled with half-assed dolls with terrible engineering, and people running with the money cause they have no experience selling them either.Get a 110cm from Parabox if you want a large doll, it's not even expensive.

Got my first head and body, still looking around for clothes and a wig. To be honest I felt a little regretful considering how much money I spent, but I'm starting to get over it. I'm not hurting for cash but that's because I dislike spending in the first place. Anyone else feel this way when they got their first doll?
>>50900361Congrats! It's a hobby with a deep end for expenses, so you aren't alone on those feelings. Just try to get a feel for what bits and parts are worth splurging on as you go
>>50900361Yeah, I thought everything was super expensive initially but felt that the craftsmanship justified the cost. Spending only goes up from there, anon...Now, I've just become numb to the cost and feel everything is quite cheap for the quality. (also due to the weak yen)Its not just spending on the doll and accessories, but also the camera gear and lights if you want to take up photo hobby. And, I just bought a wide angle lens 24mm and I want to go play with the new gear (and doll) this weekend. Hopefully the weather outside will play nice.
>>50900361In a way, the high cost has been something that has pushed me to do something more with dolls. It worked out, because I justified buying one (and then the others, later) so that I could use it to get better at photography. Now, I'm planning little trips to go around and take pictures of my dolls. So, yeah, they are pretty expensive, but they feel significantly less so if you do something with them. Use one to learn photography. Use one to learn sewing. Get (cheap) blank bodies/heads and learn faceups/blushing.
>>50900361The hobby can be expensive anon. It's up to you if you decide it's worth it. I went with comparably cheaper Azone Pure Neemos for my first two to see if I would enjoy it, and found it way more interesting and engaging than I anticipated which pushed me toward 1/3 scale vinyl dolls. I don't regret it now, but I don't deny being a little bit concerned about the initial price tag.The clothes and accessories and camera equipment if you go down that route are what will eat your wallet in the long run if you keep at it. Even sewing isn't that cheap when you consider what new fabric costs. My advice would be to spend well within your means and proportional to the enjoyment that you are presently getting with the doll. If your initial setup doesn't inspire you and bring you joy, another outfit or pair of shoes won't necessarily fix the problem. Conversely, if you love the doll, new accessories or clothes can bring new inspiration for posing, photos, etc. which is always fun to explore. And outfit coordination. But to start with, get her a wig and one to three changes of clothes and experiment with what you like about the hobby, and keep with that for a month or three before deciding if you want to spend more, and if so you should be better informed on what your interests are.>>50900715very nice but I feel threatened by that photo

Cleared some more parks off of my list today. This one wasn't really a park so much as it was a place to launch kayaks, but there were still a couple parts to shoot at.
>>50913410Found a big hollow tree to hide her in
>>50913413I put my dolls in trees quite frequently, now that I think about it
>>50913416Very cute shots but.>hairy vines>three leaves per group>alternating clustersHey anon? That was possibly poison ivy.
>>50913416Second park was one of those working farms/museums, so they had some cool stuff around. However, there was a kids birthday party going on, so I didn't really want to linger too much. There was some cool old machinery, however>>50913423Oh, yeah, you're probably right. I have such a minimal reaction to poison ivy (perhaps even none anymore) that I don't even bother looking out for it
>>50913448
>>50913448Very cool fire truck! Be careful about poison ivy, it is sensitizing and the more you are exposed to it, the more likely reaction is to occur. I used to be immune, but not anymore.
>>50913451Next was a battlefield park, which I don't really like taking pictures at, but I took a couple for posterity (and to add to the dolls and cannon collection I'll likely develop)>>50913452It is funny, I've had the opposite experience with it. I've almost always lived in the woods, so I would play out there a lot as a kid (I got very familiar with calamine lotion.) I used to get hit, and it'd take a day or two to fade, but it eventually got to the point where I'd only feel the itch for 15-30minutes and the rash was almost non-existent. I appreciate you looking out, but I suppose I'm just lucky (or it is a case of "idiots don't catch colds")
>>50913471The final was an overlook that, unfortunately, I couldn't find many good picture spots for. You can't really tell, but I promise the Potomac River is a ways below me. There was a part on this fence where there was a break in the trees, but there was not enough cliff on the other side for me to feel safe with balancing her up for a shot>>50913325I love these shots! >>50913471>>50913496I like these two pics! The exposure against the brighter background looks good. I am still struggling with that.>She really looks great in the orangeIts one of my favorite outfits too! >>50914749>>50915849Very pretty team there! The backdrop really pops out too!>>50915786>How come there are so few peopleOne pic was very early so there were less people.Later in the day more people showed up. The line was at the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall at mid-day.>odd glowIts from my editing the pic with a higher exposure because the background was brighter than the doll in the unedited photo.
>>50916034Thanks! <3>I am still struggling with thatThere are ways to edit around it (shooting proper HDR or just using masks to adjust levels for specific areas) but I just focus on making sure they're always facing the sun when I shoot. This sometimes forces you to get creative with framing and composition, but I like that sort of problem solving approach to photography. Or, you could start messing around with proper lighting equipment, but I'll leave that for the proper photography guys to touch on.
>>50913302Sorry for the confusion, they're not acrylic nails, I just used acrylic paint. I painted the hands directly, but the paint comes off easy and doesn't stain. I just have many many many hands with all kinds of paint on them. lolI'm late for May Day, but I did all of my girls doing a May Pole, and bit off way more than I could chew. I don't think I can do group photos with the space I have anymore. Oh well, the more you learn.

I really question some of their company decisions...So many other characters they could've made instead. The market is so saturated with saber alters even before this recent release that I guess even scalpers don't want them now.
After dabbling with 1/6 Pure Neemos and Seaside Peaches, I... bit off more than I can chew. But even with restricted display space, I don't regret getting 1/3 Yuliya and Alya. I have to find furniture and backdrops for them in the meantime. For those more knowledgeable, Yuliya's (the blonde) drill sidelocks are slowly unravelling as in the pic. What's the best way to restore loose strands? The instruction manual suggested Azone doll oil mist for hair care and I'm wondering if that'll work.
>>50931438>What's the best way to restore loose strands? Its a bit difficult but first, you arrange the hair strands properly in place. Wet the strands with water and wait a bit for the old styling product to dissolve slightly and loosen. Then add a bit of new styling product - too many different types, wig wax/oil mist/ human products... all seem to work with different mixed result. Then you need to keep the strands in place until the style product dries completely for best result.
>>50932069>Then add a bit of new styling product - too many different types, wig wax/oil mist/ human products... all seem to work with different mixed result.Well that's the hard part now, I was looking up Azone's oil mist or wax and everywhere is out of stock or says they're discontinued. I guess I have to be extremely careful in the meantime while I search for a suitable hair product.

>>50942217>>50942221Isn't it nice? The 1/3 scale lets you have so much detail. Looks great on her
>>50939723God I want an ap so bad.....
>>50941579>>50941590>softboxesI wish, they're "just" umbrellas (but they are parabolic)I really should have invested in some softboxes and AD200s from the beginning, but nooo The Strobist said to get speedlights so I didsure speedlights + umbrellas are more compact & lighter than the next step up, but not by much, and quite a bit less powerful/flexiblethen again if I had actual softboxes instead, I'd be trying to haul c-stands into the woods…>>50940833the secret is bump exposure for the subject, then tone curve for the background just enough so it isn't massively clipping but still looks brightthere's no way you can hide the fact the subject is heavily backlit, so if you try it'll look unnaturalI also bumped the chroma a bit n-no I'm not getting old and losing my sense of colorI also added a cheeky dodge to her face and lap
>>50942708I don't know what almost all the words in this post mean, but thank you for taking the time to reply. Doll is pretty.
>>50942217>>50942221Very pretty in that dress!>>50942708I'll really have to work on my editing skills to figure it all out! I don't know if paint.net has all those options to play around with.

>>50942217>>50942221Oh you're here too. Man she really looks great in the qipao, now I want that outfit too. And she's going nopan? Cheeky.>>50942878Now I want a scale guitar too, where did you get it? It looks really detailed and she looks good with it.
>>50942947>nopanNot quite. The dress doesn't come with any, just the hair buns. Luckily I had one of the lingerie sets so she could be a proper lady lol. They just sit high enough on her hips not to show.
>>50942947That one is from OZMiniGuitar on esty. There's also Ave Heaven that makes them too.
It's been month, waiting, hopping, praying for a fast delivery. How do I deal with this? Do I whip my penis? Jump in a cold pond? Or entertainer myself water-skiing behind fret trucks?
>>50943723Get a girlfriend.

>>50943723Haha, you are like baby.I've been waiting six months on my latest.
