Japan revolves around cute girls and beautiful women. Kawaii culture, moe, sure. But it's been this way for decades, long before idols and anime took off. Gravure is like the ultimate expression of that, an appreciation for beautiful females doing everyday things and for oozing sexuality, and for all the moments in between. I guess I'm just stumped as to why Japan is the only country like this? Gravure is men-focused entertainment, for sure, but it only persists by playing off of wota tastes (dominated by cute girls). It isn't misogynistic at all, though, it just celebrates girls for existing. It is in that sense very romantic and loving and empowering towards women. How has no other culture come to such consensus on how inserting amazing women into everything makes it better, more appealing, more comforting? It is not objectification but worship. Clearly men worldwide understand this, with gravure and kawaii culture cultivating fanbases in the West. Why have western cultures that preach feminism and empowerment not simply realized that this is it's ultimate form? Why do American commercials not feature exclusively warm, kind female figures? Why is it seen as gross or wrong to only want women presenting, narrating, hosting, MCing, whatevering? Japan, in it's refusal to adopt the modern Western approach, has refuted it fully, because they had it figured out all the way back when Jimmu sat on the Chrysanthemum Throne.
