I want an SKS, not for any practical reasons but just cuz i like how it looks and want to shoot it while wearing a ushanka with the soviet symbol i got in poland. Are norincos any good in terms of durability?
>>
yeah

Yeah they are acceptable. Quality ran from being identical to Soviet SKS rifles early on when they were being made with direct Russian assistance down to crappy bug still functional. Later examples manufactured specifically for export to civilian markets featured shortcuts like pinned barrels and occasionally stamped receivers, but are still functional rifles. The biggest downside is the use of Chu wood which is not very dense and gets dented/cracked easily but as long as you don't store it outdoors or intentionally thrash on it you'll be fine.

A true Russian SKS, or a Yugo, Romanian or Polish example will be a better quality rifle but a Chinese one will still function adequately if that's all you can afford or justify.
The Yugoslavian M59/66 is going to be the second cheapest/most available and it has some neat features like a gas cutoff and grenade launcher, but they also had no chrome lining. Check the barrel before buying one.

Im normally huge on saying china makes dogshit quality stuff, but they unironically made some of the best sks's due to their autistic fixation with it, kinda to their own detriment: i.e. look up some of the engagements in the sino-vietnamese war. The early to late year chinese military rifles are really solid, dont get the late norinco exports that were made for US boomers though. Id recommend looking up Triangle 26 on youtube, that dude is a goldmine of knowledge for anything sks related

my chinese military SKS is every bit as good as my others, but yeah the chu wood is a chip/dent/gouge magnet and maybe its not as pretty as some of the eastern bloc ones. I would look for an earlier military arsenal marked one though instead of the ones they made for direct to civilian market.

>finally have the money and developed a hobby in firearms only to find out I missed an entire era of cheap milsurp by a decade and have to pay >$600 for a rifle that a boomer bought for $75
With surplus 7.62 going the way it has, I'd much rather stock up on ARs. Would've been cool to get a Nork or Vietnam SKS tho
>>
>>64184926
I already have a sizeable stockpile of 7.62x39, so only the boomer stockpile inflation is of note for me, and i hate to justify a boomer's bitterness by buying one for more than $400 so i may just never get one

Some of the guns aren't worth what they cost now (Mosin Nagant). If you're into SKS, I think they can still be worth what you pay for them. There aren't a lot of semi auto milsurp rifles and they are still very nice quality for the price if you consider what they would cost for a modern equivalent.
You are correct though that by the numbers, the AR15 is the more "optimal" purchase.

Mosins still go for $350 all day, it’s really not that bad. The issue is ammo.
>>
>>64184524
Yeah, Chinese guns aren't junk. If anything, the finish might be rough but the Norinco Mak90s I've shot were smooth
>>
>>64185082
Where are you finding them for $350? Standard run-of-the-mill m91/30 goes for $500 and up.

link or it didnt happen

Love my chink sks, she's a good shooter. If you want an SKS you can't go wrong with Chinese
>>
>>64187657
Are the 20 round internal mags any good, or just stick to the 10? Obviously not bothering with bubba-fied AK mag versions
>>
>>64187694
>just stick to the 10
I had trouble with the last rnd feeding from my 20 and far prefer the factory 10s.

Except for the too short LOP, shitty soft wood stocks, rudimentary metal finish, crude fittinngs and worst trigger ever. The Russian examples are preferred all day long and a $500 Norinco SKS is a travesty for what you get. At that price, just get a Ruger GSR and you are ahead.
