The WWIIafterWWII blog has an article about WW2 weapons used during the 90s Bougainville civil war. Apparently they salvaged a bunch of machineguns from downed WW2 planes and refurbished them with the help of an Irish mining engineer who went rogue and joined the rebels.

So I have wondered if the Israelis have ever solved the issues with the M1 carbine given that they have used them for almost 8 decades, and they are still used by police units like this. They also made that compact Tavel chambered in .30 carbine that used M1 pattern mags but I’ve never seen new made polymer or metal mags for sale that were made in Israel.
>>
>>64186700
If it's stupid, but it works, is it stupid?
>>
>>64192592
The impression I get from a lot of israeli weapons and gear is extreme cheapness, they might give gucci gear to their special forces, but conscripts, reservists and police get a mishmash of old and non standard stuff. Reservists ARs often have very worn uppers and lowers with anything from 10 to 20 inch barrels with whatever kind of fore end the armorer could get his hands on, some tape/paracord and sometimes some cheap looking FAB defense accessories
>>
>>64188681
Is that 28 gauge? The shells look to short for .410.
>>
>>64192685
Yeah I mostly meant the issues with jamming that from my research are almost always magazine related. While they have some worn out M1 carbines I have seen newer guns that use the M1 carbine magazine and so I’m curious if new made Israeli m1 carbines work better than factory originals when they were new.
>>
>>64192699
I think so, if they were 20 guage the shells would be yellow.

I think this image is from Brazil, unusual shotgun calibers seem to be more common there (please weigh in Brazilanons). I saw a vice docu on youtube about an Amazon tribe defending themselves against loggers and most of them were armed with single shotguns, and they were doling out ammo, including some 28 gauge and possibly 32 gauge, but its a short clip and they only show 28g so the "32" may be .32-20 rifle ammo which is apparently also still common over there

Not exactly sure this is it, but I remember there was some sort of 90's FPS named Incidente em Varginha, which was based on an alien sighting in Brazil called the Varginha UFO incident. So maybe the greentext was talking about that?
>>
>>64194371
I was thinking the Colares wave. Varghina was a one-off where an ayy was spotted running around the city before being apparently captured by police/military.

The Colares thing was UFOs apparently causing injuries and sucking people's blood, Brazilian military actually investigated it but didn't find anything.

Its giving Latin America vibes, so 7mm is probably right. The muzzle brake and rear sight look like it could be a 7.62 conversion someone bubbaed further, but the barrel is too short to be a Brazilian MosqueFAL conversion. The barrel length is right to be a Spanish FR8 or FR7 but those have distinctive CETME front sights

I did a tour of a jail once for church (no idea why the fuck that was a thing). The cop showing us around told us a story about this guy who somehow got a shit load of PCP into the jail, got high as shit and made a functional battle axe out of a TV. He put like 4 cops in the hospital, they tried to tase and spray him to no avail, apparently took multiple cops shooting him and reloading multiple times before he was finally out down. I always wondered what the CCTV footage would have looked like, but he didn't want to show us.
>>
>>64194357
I lived in Brazil for a long time, man. Probably bullshit. A fun one though is the guy who found glowing rocks in a chemotherapy thing he broke open from an abandoned hospital he started telling people it could heal any illness and all the neighbors started pouring in. Then everyone started getting turbo cancer and radiation sickness and dying off. I think the main guy and his wife ended up essentially having all their skin melt off.
The thing about Brazilians is they're all a fun combination of extremely superstitious and extremely retarded. I was a mormon missionary, gangsters would often let us in their houses and want to talk to us or protect us because they thought God would give them some kind of blessing. I had a guy put a gun to my head one time and I was like "que legal cara! Isso é um Glock 19?? Tenho uma em casa pelos Estados Unidos." Dude got all excited and wanted to talk about guns and practice English. Met a guy who was the leader of some gang, he walked with a limp and the inside of his little favela shack looked like a super modern, nice apartment. He'd been shot at least 8 times and had a weirdly dysformed arm, so he tells us the story one time that he was getting out of jail and somebody paid off a cop to attack him as he walked out of the gate in the middle of the night with a machete. He put his arms above his head and the cop just kept hacking at him until he said it was hanging on by skin and veins and shit. We stopped going because one time we went to talk to him and he said "I'll be right back elders! And his wife yelled out the window "he's lying! He's going to smoke crack." We were talking to this lady in the middle of nowhere and she claimed her son was in his field one night and saw a 50 foot tall demon standing over him, so he prayed to Jesus and the demon went away. They genuinely believe that putting a leaf on your head under a hat will cure any illness and eating watermelon after drinking milk or wine will kill you.

You ever see Aliens? Remember the Smart Gun? It's basically that. Look up something like "Steady cam third arm gun". You know those monitor mounts or that light your dentist has hanging from the ceiling? They're basically gas pistons tuned to counter balance the weight of something so it holds a neutral position, usually used for camera work when the camera man has to move but you don't want that Michael Bay Shaky Shot or they're using really heavy cameras.

Probably doesn't really go anywhere because it's far too heavy and cumbersome for not enough benefit to the operator. Anything heavy enough to warrant using it would probably be something higher caliber, which would mean higher recoil that the steady arm rig doesn't compensate enough for yet to make it viable.

Why have this extra shit strapped to your ass when you could just have like a pound of bipod and go prone for basically the same benefit, except when you're standing up in an open field, which is a terrible tactical position to be in.

7.62x51mm. They were military guns bought converted and then not used much. The reason police use them is despite being old, these are some of the least scuffed guns available.

given the gun and what the response to 72 was, I always assumed it was another way of trying to allow for stabilized shooting in tighter confines. The same way the french got that revolver with a bipod and scope. RAF takes a hostage in a dense urban center and all you have is a tiny ass stairwell, something like this could be useful. The operator being dressed like it looks more SWAT/counter terror helps that idea I think. Not actual military gear. I think something like this could be useful for USCG stuff but they seem to have it handled with the .50 braced in the helicopters.
