Not looking for the eternal “revolvers are reliable, autos have more capacity” circlejerk. We all know that song, it’s been played to death.I’m asking on a personal level: why YOU carry what you carry. What’s the one thing that made you choose it for EDC?Could be practical (capacity, caliber, weight, concealment) or personal (nostalgia, aesthetics, “feels cool in my hand”). No wrong answers here. For example: I pocket carry a Chiappa Rhino 20DS. My main reason? Caliber choice. That’s it.I just want to hear what makes someone pick a Glock over a Colt Detective Special, or a wheelgun over a polymer wonder, etc.So, /k/, why’d you pick what you carry?
Revolvers are gay
I'm really good and comfortable with my Glock, so that's what I carry. Simple as. I'm not going to say or think that revolvers are antiquated trash and that anyone who carries them is wrong, and I won't take to heart the words of anyone who has made carrying a snubby .38 a core component of their personality. It just is what it is, and nothing more.
I carry a 32 J frame with this grip because it's extremely comfortable. Less than a lb loaded, 6 shots of hardcast 32. Easy to draw and will fire no matter how badly you grip it. Use a nylon stretch belt with the hook grip and it feels like nothing is there. I love it. I use a holster from time to time but not often. I also keep a 9mm around (px4c) but I rarely carry it on person.
>>64191240I own a few revolvers for fun, I love how the old S&Ws look and feel, but I have never carried them. This is almost entirely down to capacity, I just don't want to rely on only 5 or 6 rounds for protection, and 6 round .357s are bulky. My regular carry gun is an ordinary G19 with some aftermarket sights. When I pocket carry, it's a bodyguard 2.0 or a springfield hellcat depending on the pants or jacket. Both of which are smaller than my smallest revolver and hold over 10 rounds. My smallest revolver, a 432, is larger than the hellcat in all dimensions and at 6 rounds of .32 magnum out of a sub 2" barrel is probably about as potent as the .380 bodyguard... It just wouldn't make sense to carry a gun that is larger, less powerful, and holds fewer rounds.
>>64191240Why carry just one?Sure, automatics have more ammo and more of them can run a dot sight, etc.But nobody ever expects you to pull a micro revolver from your pocket off-hand and put a contact shot into their liver. And it's still there if you need it because your main gun jammed or whatever. They weigh basically nothing. Why not? Makes more sense than EDC'ing extra magazines, I think.
>>64191240Bodyguard 380 because when I first started carrying I needed something I could conceal in scrubs. Stuck with it ever since, even though I'm wearing a suit most of the time now.
>>64191240What's better for a 22lr? Are 22lr even viable for self defense or should I get something larger?
I shoot my Glock well, it’s lightweight, and holds a lot of boolets. I’ve also never had any malfs with it.
>>64192123.22 is for having fun practicing shooting since it's affordable, it being rimfire makes it fuck up firing a lot so don't depend on it past rodent elimination. The Browning Buckmark autoloader is neat, Heritage Rough Riders are fun single-action revolvers but are gigantic, and the Ruger X4 or whatever the model is works nicely, but it sucks to clean which is a constant mandate for this caliber instead of a nice "I felt like it" or "It's been a month, time to oil it again". .380 is surprisingly potent and it's a centerfire, so it's far more reliable. 9mm's won't weigh much more, and making holsters for the .22's would be a nightmare since they're very large for no tradeoff if you're carrying them. Yes it'll still hurt or kill someone, but with the high chance of ammunition mishaps and it being quite anemic you may as well take it seriously if you have the misfortune to require a gun past having fun hitting paper targets. That's also why we have these rights to begin with. I apologize for my informative schizoranting, I have a migraine and my meds for it have me high as balls and happy to talk about a subject I enioy. Ultimately, carry what you personally care for and like to shoot. Better to have something with you than in a safe when needed, after all. God my head hurts.
>>64192123>Are 22lr even viable for self defense or should I get something larger? They're really not ideal. Get at least a .380 or .38 if you can.
>>64191536no u
>>64192203Nah it's cool dude, we're all here to learn and share. And I agree with >>64192203 and >>64192206, even a .380 is better. If you really want a small handgun, try maybe something like the keltech P32. I got one for my (ex) gf, and shot it a few time myself, it's good for what it is and what it cost. I would even consider carry it if I had to.
>>64191240Revolvers don't leave cases behind
>>64192123Most modern non-sporting .22s are pretty shit, and most older .22s weren't made to be easily carried since a lot of old .22 ammo was often pretty shit.
>>6419212322lr can work, but rimfire is relatively unreliable and since you have minimal power, your accuracy has to be unimpeachable under pressure. You will basically never do worse with a 380 or 38 special than you would with a 22lr.That said if you have to rely on 22lr use a revolver so that if you do get a bad round you can just keep pulling the trigger for the next one.Even Paul Harrell opted for a .22 towards the end, but that was when he was so weakened by cancer that carrying and controlling his usual was too much to ask in case he needed to bug out.
>>64191803>Makes more sense than EDC'ing extra magazines, I think.I used to carry a P32 as a backup instead of a magazine for my 1911 back in the day. Pretty sure the P32 was ~10oz which was lighter than a 1911 magazine. Always gun autism justified it by saying I could arm someone if I needed to.New York reloads need to come back. Way less tactical Timmy than the competition 2011s people are carrying these days.
>>64192123Realistically a LCR in 22lr would cover all your needs. I'd never carry 22lr in an auto since id want the ability to just pull the trigger again if there was a dead strike. Premium 22lr only has like a .5% failure rate but that's still 1/200 shots. Premium defensive 22lr is even less.People meme about it failing because most people buy 22lr to shoot the cheapest ammo possible.Overall I say go for it but only in a snub nose revolver and id opt for some good ammo.
>>64192432
I have carried a J-frame in the pocket before. It was so light and comfy at times I'd even forget I had the gun on me. And I hated carrying my Glock 19 IWB because I had to use thick belts and holsters and it would still print and be uncomfortable But now I found a very comfy AIWB holster and carry method for my Glock 19, and I also dress like a man now with loose clothing, so I can conceal well in summer and in winter. Only females wear tight clothing so they have to carry in pursesIf I wanted to carry while using tight athletic clothes while going out for a run I'd just use picrel minus the tacticool color. I have one in light blue
>>64192535The top one should have a virgin on it, not a chad. All the competitive shooters and dudes with actual combat experience I know carry a pretty stock and basic compact handgun. As I got better at competition shooting and gained more experience with my duty pistol in my work, I went from carrying my 92g with an X300 and RMR to a iron sighted Glock 19. The draw to first shot on a target 7 to 15 yards is identical. And the follow up shots can't be slower than 0.05 if that. For duty though, yeah read dot and heavy/powerful WML all the way
>>64191240I carry a semi-auto because I've never even considered carrying a revolver. They're just not in the running.
>>64192123>22lrDon't get a semiauto.Get a J-frame such as Smith & Wesson 43Cweighs 12 oz8 round capacity>>64191603Also the .32 H&R Magnum J-frames (aluminum alloy, steel cylinder) such as 432UC / 632UC provide near the punch of .38 Special with less weight and 6 shot capacityhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox3e-y7Tu0E(the .32 centerfire J-frames will have a lighter trigger pull than rimfires)
LCPmax because it fights right into my front pocket with my wallet and anything larger in any dimension would not work
>>64191240I pocket carry almost exclusively now because I'm too fit to conceal my gun on my waist very well. People kept seeing it and pocket carry is just more convenient. Revolvers are fatter than single stack .380s so it doesn't conceal as well in the pocket. You also have a more difficult reload, and have to figure out where to conceal the reload. My revolver is a 9mm and uses moon clips so I could find a cylinder type container, but then I have a big ol cylinder sticking out of my pocket along with the bulge from the revolver cylinder. Just don't know how it would be as convenient as a semiauto. Maybe if I could design a belt buckle that holds moon clips...
>>64194500Revolvers are also heavier, my LCP is 17oz while the original Bodyguard .380 is 12oz. That cylinder is a big chunk of metal. You also get no safety. Most people look at revolvers for pocket carry which is why I got mine but they don't really work out better than a semiauto imo. Still fun to shoot.
>>64194507>are also heavierNot the Airweights
>>64194755Still heavier than a pocket .380 and don't those have Hillary holes?ick
>>64194911>heavier than a pocket .380Which one?the lightweight scandium-aluminum revolvers are 10 to 14 oz
>>64191240I just like it
>>64192123.22lr isn't only weak. A problem just as bad with it is inconsistency. Semi autos turn those inconsistencies into serious reliability issues, malfunctions that need to be cleared between shots. Revolvers already have all the rounds chambered and can continue past duds normally, making the inconsistency much less of a practical issue.Semi vs revolver capacity standards also somewhat overlap in the case of .22lr, with 10 being the norm for full size semis and 10 also fairly common for revolvers, when they aren't specifically trying to be classic six shooters. If you're settled on a .22lr for defense for whatever reason despite not having chosen one yet, and you have the strength for a double action trigger to not particularly be an issue, then a double action revolver is definitely the way to go.
>>64192535Literally me. The duality of not knowing if you are the most heavily armed man in the room. It’s humbling. With my sentinel, I’m outgunned by literally anyone else who is concealing. With the DWX, I’m sitting pretty unless I encounter someone with a long arm.
>>64192123I would trust my life to .22 magnum. More specifically federal punch ammunition. There are two main concerns with rimfire reliability, duds and ejection issues. Duds are unavoidable and are baked into the cake at the ammunition factory. If you can accept that, then the question becomes do you go for a revolver or semi automatic. From what I hear, Rugar mkIVs have excellent ejection reliability so if you have the cash, you can’t go wrong there. Revolvers are also great and pretty cheap nowadays. Just pick what you shoot well with.
>>64191240>Why do you EDC...a semi-auto?Who said anything about semi, chud
>>64191240I primarily carry a SAA clone because I think it's cool, feels good in the hands, and the black powder loaded rounds I reloaded myself will make the shootout cooler and me slightly more intimidating. It's also often that I carry an Altor 9MM and NAA mini-revolver because I can. :D
>>64192567You can’t seriously be that hung up over a red dot. Btw who cares about what “competitive shooters and dudes with actual combat experience” do in regards to conceal carry?
>>64191240size and weight and safety. j frame airweights are light enough to pocket carry everywhere. i think loaded weight is 14 ounces so about as much as your phone
>>64192123a .22lr would be good enough for 99.9% of any situation you had to use a firearm in self defense for. and thats already on top of the 99% chance youll never need to fire the gun because simply pulling it out will be enough to deter the crime. so is the inconvenience and weight of a better heavier gun worth the .001% you will ever need that? i guess it depends on your lifestyle and how many minorities you live around
>>64197734Could you please keep your mental gymnastics about .22lr being sufficient to yourself. I don’t want to go find that video of that guy who got ran over with his own truck since .22 lr can’t go through window/deflected/did not incapacitate his car jacker.
>>64197769oh you found the 1 instance out of a hundred million that is the exception which i already noted in my post thanks for your valuable addition to the conversation
>>64197783There’s statistics showing that .22lr and .32 and other small calibers are 4x more likely to fail to stop an attacker no matter how many bullets are fired compared to .380, 9mm, .45, .40 Gunfight statistics are very unreliable due to the amount of variables, but I think the number of attackers who were NOT stopped by any amount of rounds fired being >40% by .22lr compared to ~10% for most duty calibers is concerning. https://www.buckeyefirearms.org/handgun-stopping-powerPussy faggot, grow some balls and carry a 9mm
>>64191240why would I carry anything other than a gen 3 glock 19
.32 PPK for me. It typically conceals well in my pocket or waistband, I enjoy shooting it and I think it's neat.
>>64197861how bout instead of being a pussybrained faggot you grow some reading comprehension i never said .22 was better you moron i said its good enough for the majority of situations the incel anime obsessed anon who never leaves his house would ever need it for. >>64197861>There’s statistics showing thatnow show me the statistics of ever needing to shoot a gun if you have to reach for iti also said it depends on his lifestyle. since anon is an incel shut in NEET living at his parents house in a upper middleclass suburb chances are very high he will never need a gun. if he was a low IQ nigger like yourself who had to go to nigger bars every day competing with other niggers for some purple haired nubian princess and mingle with other drunk niggers playing cards or dice in the streets of the hood for crack money then yeah he would probably be very likely to need a gun for self defense and should absolutely consider a 40 cal problem solver as the minimum entry hi point

>>64198129I sometimes carry a .45
>>64191240Revolvers are unreliable. Fall in the mud and the piece of shit is out of time if not totally inoperable. With a well made semi just shake it off and make sure to slam it shut so it will at least get some accurate rounds off
>>64198179How often are you falling in the mud anon?
>>64198164How is that (to carry and shoot) anon?
>>64198197It's very light and thin and carries very well. It can feel a little snappy at first but is easy to get the hang of.
>>64191240I pocket carry a ruger lcp becaude its easy and concealable. Or I carry my Bersa 380 because its small and concealable. Plus its one of my most comfy guns to shoot and I have a lot of practice with it so I trust it more cause I got gud.
>>64198291Thanks, nice looking pistol. Were discussing on another recent thread how many of those downsized .45 ACP 1911s can have feeding/function issues (in comparison to original-full size)
>>64197903Seethe harder bro. You wrong, anon's right.
>>64191240I used to carry a subcompact striker fired 9mm. I took it to the range one day and it failed to extract 100 rounds in a row. I drove straight to the gun store from the range and bought a revolver in 357.

>>64191240>Smith 638 and 2 quick strips>One: Bumfuck nowhere with incredibly low crime>Two: Want something that will go bang even in the absolute weirdest, dumbest situations like from inside a pocket.I know the latter one is kinda dumb but I if I need the gun I don't wanna get caught with my pants down because I had a stovepipe or limp wristed or had to shove the muzzle against the torso of an attacker.Basically I wanted a snag-free point&shoot that will work even when I drop all my spaghetti and even forgot the most basic handgun operating rules.>inb4 just train more til you get muscle memory and know exactly what to do.I honestly don't have enough time for that. I train with the Smith once a month to hone my shooting skills though.
>>64198995>I know the latter one is kinda dumbNah, not at all. I carry a semi but only because it's so small, being able to fire from a pocket or with your gun jammed into the gut of the guy who jumped you seems plenty valuable.
>>64191240Revolver fat. Good woman gun. If they pull it usually a rape and revolver don’t care about cycling reciprocating mass
>>64191240I'm not the biggest handgun guy to start with, and I'm even less of a revolver enthusiast. I just carry a semi since it's what I have and I'm not particularly inclined to spend money on a better one or get a revolver. I see some of the advantages of revolvers in very specific scenarios, but I have zero revolver shooting experience and I wouldn't feel confident in handling and reloading vs a semi-auto.
>>64199033>being able to fire from a pocket or with your gun jammed into the gut of the guy who jumped you seems plenty valuableYeah that's what I'm thinking. I do own other guns but when it comes to carrying I want the simplest solution possible. The one that will fire no matter how fucked the circumstances or how much I'm drowning in adrenaline. To be fair (to be faaaaiiiir) if I had more time to train I'd probably carry a semi too but that's just not possible. And now that archery season is around the corner there's even less time. >Fucking up your sleep cycle for months just to fill the ole garage freezer with venison
>>64199114Bazinga, get a real job nerd
>>64199129I got a real job man. I fix diesels for a living. And I'm kinda creative too. When I was younger I had a velcro-based quick release system on the inside of the bibs of my overalls (thanks mom for sewing the velcro strips^^). Basically a slim holster you could remove for washing. To draw you just had to shove the right hand behind the bib part. >Why don't you use it anymoreAs phones got bigger the gun crushed two screens in the bib pocket while I was hanging inside an engine bay. So I started using pocket holsters instead. Still miss my redneck tactical invention
Wear gloves or your hands will crack like rice paper after a couple years. If you’re going to post a naruto story arc you could have at least posted a cool pic, faggot
>>64199249If anyone is interested: I used the 5.11 holster pouch. The entire thing is covered in soft velcro. Usually meant for the inside of their bags. Worked like a charm tho as a bib holster.
>>64199258You, a retard, stopped using it. Why would anyone else want to use that setup?
>>64198354I'd say the break in period was similar to other 1911s but it does have problems feeding flat nose rounds if it's pretty dirty. Tap and rack generally solves it but it's worth mentioning.
