>>64193966>doesn't deny itI accept your concession.
>>64193832So how come the Army ran circles around itself to develop the XM7 instead of just adopting this? Everyone who field tested them (SEALs, Army Rangers, Delta Force, etc.) seemed to like them and it would have been a helluva lot cheaper than the current SIG dumpsterfire.
>>64193993Do you think the XM7 rifle shoots 5.56?
>>64193977Claim your victory if it makes you feel better. Clearly you are not here to discuss anything but attack. Have a good day.
HK advertised the 416 as being "Over The Beach" capable, but normal DI AR15s are as well, water gets in the gas tube but it just gets shot out through the carrier vents in one shot, so it's really a nonissue. They were trying to sell them to socom as not needing a dry bag at all but they still do.The fulltime suppressed concept came about after the 416 was developed and 416s don't actually perform any better than properly gassed/buffered AR15s when suppressed, in fact they recoil strangely and everyone who's ever fired one has noticed this. They had terrible carrier tilt issues because the straight pull system is no longer truly straight pull, although these issues were apparently resolved by just chamfering the back edge of the BCG.Despite being piston operated the receiver still fills up with carbon, especially when suppressed, it just doesn't get in the shooters eyes. But now instead of all your carbon in one spot that's easy to clean you have a gas plug that gets carbon locked and corrodes, on top of shitting out excess gas to the front which is horrible for signature reduction. The gas block on an AR15 is a set and forget part that requires zero maintenance for the life of the barrel and beyond. The real reason the 416 got adopted by DG/CAG is because they desperately needed a free floated rail with perfect return to zero, and the block II system didn't exist until 2011, so instead of putting commercial free float rails on their Mk18s and M4A1s they used up taxpayer dollars for a whole new system. If the 416 was truly as good as kids online say it is the entirety of SOCOM would be using them, but it's not, the current URGI system works perfectly for anything anyone needs to do
>>64193832What happened was GWOTvets and History Channel / Futureweapons boomers seeing the AK and knowing it was more reliable because of pistons. So just add a piston to an AR. Doesn't matter that it's not even the same kind of piston. Now you have the best good guy gun as reliable as the bad guy gun, sell it to command which doesn't know anything anyway, and it's all Gucci.Yes. It was that stupid.
>>64193832>How did they do it?They put a simplified AR-18 action in some AR-15 furniture and pretended that they weren't copying Eugene Stoner.>>64193966There was no need to. The reason for the HK 416 success wasn't that it's a major breakthrough but rather that the tier 1 units in the US needed a specific rifle quickly. The first time they needed a rifle, it took a decade to make SOPMOD; the second time, it also took years for SOPMOD II, so they decided, "Hey, let's just choose a different rifle rather than waiting a long time for Congress to let us change the AR-15 slightly for certain missions.">>64194079>The real reason the 416 got adopted by DG/CAG is because they desperately needed a free floated rail with perfect return to zero, and the block II system didn't exist until 2011, so instead of putting commercial free float rails on their Mk18s and M4A1s they used up taxpayer dollars for a whole new system.Yep, it wasn't cheap, but the Tier 1 guys wanted it fast.>If the 416 was truly as good as kids online say it is the entirety of SOCOM would be using them, but it's not, the current URGI system works perfectly for anything anyone needs to doPeople will be shilling URGI once they become more common too.>>64193993Retarded desk jockeys in the government and in the military wanted to justify their existence, so they pushed for a rifle that had better armor-piercing capabilities. When we found out that our peers (Russia and China) still struggle to issue body armor to every soldier, they changed the goal to needing a rifle that outranges the enemy. By the time it came out that some XM7 were 6 MOA, it was already adopted.
>>64193966in 2008 let me tell you a story. There was four rifles that stood the USMC IAR trials. First one was an HK, Second one was a Colt, Third one was an Ultimax and the fourth one was POF. If USMC wasn't predetermined on adopting the 416, POF or Ultimax would've won since they came out as the top three. Colt was gay and wasn't considered.True story bro bro
>>64194144>People will be shilling URGI once they become more common too.The M4A1 in it's usual configuration with the M4 RAS is still perfectly fine and still better than what probably 95% of what the world's armies are using. The fact that the non free floated picatinny M4 RAS has survived as long as it has is just incredible, obviously the army is fine with its zero retention and modularity.
>>64193966Same reason I didn’t buy a house. I was 6.
