surely there has to be a better convention, no? should it be limited to just presidents with military service?

There's already a carrier for George Sr. Ford is built, Clinton is next, that leaves G.W., Obama, and Biden, if we leave Cadet bonespurs out of the equation. Personally I'd like to see another a Harris or a CVN Milley. They need to scrap the Forrestal and Carl Vinson ASAP. If America had any sense, once we get the orange turd out of office, we'd rename some capital ships to some of the civil rights leaders like Harvey Milk after the Sec Def retard changed them during his shitfit.

WW2 was peak ship naming by the USN. Every carrier was a banger of a name compared to a bunch of politicians getting handies from the pentagon naming ships after them.
Great Brit shipnaming wa also on point by comparison.
>>

Fuck presidents. No ship should be named for a politician if they're not an honest-to-god war hero.

We don't name them in chronological order. The Ford was built after the H.W. Bush, Reagan came after Truman, Eisenhower was followed by the Theodore Roosevelt, and there was the Stennis and Vinson mixed in there too.

even if you exclude Clinton, Bush jr, Obama, Trump and Biden there's like another 15 or 16 presidents who don't have ships named for them yet so it's not like we're in danger of running out any time soon, Hell McKinley and Chester A. Fish don't vote.

Congress wanted Carl Vinson and John C. Stennis to jerk themselves off. Harry S. Truman and Ronald Reagan were a bipartisan package deal, George HW Bush was someone being a suckass. Gerald R. Ford was Republicans taking a victory lap. John F. Kennedy and Enterprise replace John F. Kennedy and Enterprise. I think Trump was watching Pearl Harbor when they announced Doris Miller. Biden went back to form with William J. Clinton and George W. Bush.

LBJ has caused more damage to the black race and culture in America than anyone else in US history through the creation of the welfare state. He's basically responsible for the disproportionately high level of nig crime and poverty, race-based equity being codified into law, and the consequences that have been passed down to everyone else in the country.
His management of Vietnam was also poor. The combination of a lack of coherent strategic goals and fence sitting on decisive escalation/aid combined with the public perception fallout from the death toll for both Americans and Vietnamese, the draft, and unsanctioned clandestine invasions of ostensibly neutral Cambodia and Laos crippled the US war effort and arguably turned Vietnam from a winnable to an unwinnable war.
Also plenty of other reasons, like being kind of a sleazy politician and there's a nonzero possibility that he was behind or involved in the assassination of JFK so fuck him.

Ships should never bear a man's name. The names of battles, virtues, and legacies should be used.
If we were going to do anything besides give carriers proper, American names like Wasp, Enterprise or Lexington, we should move to something much larger, like oceans, Greek goddesses or stellar phenomena.
>tl;dr ships are girls
>stop naming them after boys
>>
Personally I'd go with Presidents can be used, but:
- The name become usable posthumously
- The President can request they be named after a different type of ship, if it fundamentally makes sense for them to request that (e.g. USS Jimmy Carter)
- Presidents who served in some capacity beyond "Commander in Chief" should receive priority over those that did not

It's because there's a concerted effort amongst his henchmen and their disciples who now occupy high places of government and society (Roger Stone for one) to rehabilitate him and his behavior, partially because they believed they were in the right for committing their crimes, and partially because they want to go further and rehabilitating his image means people like you will accept more and more egregious crimes and sins against this great nation.

Ignoring all politics, this seems pretty dumb, seeing as Robert E. Lee served in the United/Confederate States Army, not the Navy. Considering that Watergate is like 95% of what the public knows about Nixon can be summed up as "Watergate and Vietnam" he didn't really have anywhere to go but up. As a president Nixon is a mixed bag through and through but as a man he's quite interesting. Self-made, brilliant, hard-working, well-read, a devoted husband, shrewd, bitter, vengeful, painfully human, insecure, paranoid and awkward. Almost byronic, really. He also had BY FAR the most adversarial relationship with the media than any president before Trump, going all the way back to 1948.

Seeing the rehabilitation of Nixon is kind of odd seeing how degen his administration was in many respects, beyond Watergate which was also legitimately very bad.

His admin was in many ways responsible for the awful economic situation for the United states in the 1970s through his politicisation of the Fed, and he majorly screwed up Vietnam both by reneging on his election promise to rapidly end the war, and then completely screwing up the post withdrawal by cutting aid during the 73 recession/oil crisis that effectively collapsed the South Vietnamese economy.

Ford was also a naval pilot that saw action in the Pacific during WWII but you already knew that right?

different anon here, but according to command responsibility principle you can be sentenced to death in military court for something the troops under your command did even if they did it against your direct orders
>>
>>64197014
Yeah I replied above to that anon, but (even though Ford is a deep stater on the Warren Commission) Gerald Ford did serve in World War II USN and I've got no real problem with the "justification" for naming a CVN class after him
>>

Which would matter if he wasn't implicitly involved in the coverup (he was), if not the actual burglary itself (which is unclear). Or the illegal use of the government to discredit and punish innocent Americans for having the gall to notice their crimes and speak out.

Which is where we are now in this country, except all the men of decency and virtue are gone, replaced by stooges who care little for this country or their fellow Americans.

It's an overreaction to the continuous attack on his image all the way up to the present day. He also came after Johnson, another president who was/is endlessly glazed in mainstream circles despite also being absolutely catastrophic to the future of America. This is not to say that he was right or a good president, but I can sort of understand why the modern pro-Nixon crowd glosses over his presidency's many faults.

A true American hero!

Come to think of it, considering how business-oriented Donny Boy is do you think he would offer to name USN ships after donors? We've already had corporate sponsorships for the US Army's 250th anniversary parade so it wouldn't be a huge leap.
>USS Jeff Bezos
>USS Peter Thiel
>USS Mark Zuckerberg
>USS Elon Musk
>USS Pfizer

What types of ships would these be?

They were just trying to get southern congressmen to approve the funding. A lot of the pre Ohio boomers had retarded names.
>>

They should name carriers after STDs so the CIA has reason to invent more
I thank God every day for the social curse of AIDS and wish we had 10, no 20, more just like it.

It's funny because Watergate was barely anything compared to the treason he commited to win the 1968 election.

Johnson should have had that insecure little shit shot by firing squad for undermining a ceasefire, and we're in the state we are today because a rich Australian faggot couldn't handle seeing that weirdo get ousted from an office he never should have had.

Independence class carrier, and later a Ticonderoga class.

that's what the ID number is for. if you can't see the value on clarity and memorability of having an actually name for the boat, you are autistic.

I'd accept this if we get to name ships after the good Confederate generals again. And Native American leaders, too. Hell, maybe even throw in Jefferson Davis and name a ship in the same class as Obama's is in for irony points.

He didn't start the fire, nor was it his aircraft that accidentally fired the malfunctioning Zuni rockets. 110 did; He was in 416, which was possibly hit in the initial incident with the definitely hit 405.

This means you could name a Carrier USS Sealth. The ultimate bait, see how many turdies take it.
Also have the Carriers George A. Custer and Sitting Bull. Have them have a constant rivalry. Decommission Custer first, by having an ASM strike deployed from SItting Bull.
