Someone I know is driving through my area and they're offering to sell their used Type 56 SKS to me for $400. Is this a good price nowadays or should I negotiate further? It's a good friend of mine so I'm willing to pay a little more than the median price.
that's good
>>64197041400 is on the low end so you'd be getting a good deal IF (and you should ask these questions)1. Are all the serials matching? The important ones are the bolt carrier and receiver but there are others too. Common to mismatch magazine or stock so if those are marching then that's a bonus.2. Does it have the cleaning rod and bayonet? If it has the bayonet, is it a spike or a blade? Blade bayonets were on the oldest SKSes when they were transitioning from Soviet to domestically made parts. If it's an all matching Type 56 with bayonet, in good condition the market for that is 500-550. If it's bubba'ed then 300 tops.Picrel is my Type 56 and I love that chinky bitch
>>64197041If that's legit and it's not in utter dogshit condition that's a very good deal.
>spend 600 dollars on a norinco sks>magwell is fucked and bayonet isn't screwed on right>when i take it to the range and fire a shot, both the magazine falls out and the bayonet goes shooting off down range due to the spring tensionworst purchase i made in my life. hate this piece of shit and never buying milsurp again.
$400-$600 is probably the going rate now. Prices are down because frankly I don't think 7.62x39 will ever be cheap again. They were really only used in one major conflict so for that reason I don't think they're ever gonna have the appeal of a Mosin or AK in my opinion
>>64197058Thank you for the detailed replyIt has a spike bayonet. I don't know about matching serial numbers but I don't particularly mind if they don't match. I'd guess w the spike bayonet & non-matching serials 400$ is good enough then?
>>64197068I don't plan to shoot it THAT frequently, so hopefully 7.62x39 prices don't ruin me too hard
>>64197091If it has a bayonet and the wood/metal isn't too bad then I would go for it
>>64197091Yes it’s a good deal. It would be even better if it’s actually a military arsenal one vs the norinco ones made for civilian market export.
good deal
>>64197041400 is really good for an sks nowadays. I paid 500 for this 1963 factory 26 type 56 a couple weeks ago
>>64197091yes its a good deal, just look for signs of rust in the bore just in case. most boomers rarely shot them though so its probably just full of cosmoline. mine was. Oh and on that note clean the bolt carrier very well if there is cosmo because it could cause the firing pin to get stuck in place and your rifle may runaway and fire the rest of the rounds. But thats a feature not a bug
