I put together a shitty Aero lower/PSA M4 Freedom blem upper featureless build for around $600-700 even with tools and CA compliance shit included. Best part is if you build it, you get an idea of how to fix shit if it goes wrong, and modding is easy since you already know where everything goes. Strike makes usable fin grips and stock plugs for cheap, PSA sells them on their website along with all the other tools, parts, and so forth. Hell I even went Amazon mystery meat on some tools just to save a few bucks and everything still works fine.
