>>64199116Cambotard here.The F-16 did the first heavy duty work but as soon that the Cambodians made some failed attempts to shoot them down with the HQ12 SAMs that China gifted to Cambodia the US effectively told Thailand to stop using them as they were not sold for offensive conflicts and they are old blocks models at risk against the SAMs since Thailand was using them almost as CAS the US was not happy about it as if you fly CAS missions with little to no jamming even the mediocre HQ12 has a fair chance to successfully shoot an F16 down. (the missiles were gifted as part of an ongoing charm offensive with the objective to make Cambodia follow Beijing more than the US but Cambodia seems the enjoy getting gifts from both sides if possible) So they used the gripens instead that came without so many strings attached to good success. I think its mostly politics since the US is not keen on people using US equipment without US approval in particular if you are the side trying to take territory already confirmed to belong to the other country by international courts. Overall the F-16 did most of the hard work but the US just did not want to risk the Thais losing one against a much weaker opponent just because they were using them like an AA12.
