Update on my 30-06 reloads. I took some out this morning, same 47 grain charge of Accurate 2520 and I used CCI 200 primers instead of Ginex primers. Still had the same issues, still getting 2-4 “click bangs” per clip. So I think the powder just isn’t filling the chamber enough to get good ignition. Bummer. But I did some googling and I see N135 works well for the Garand and it’s a stick powder, so it fills up the case well. So I’m going to buy a jug of that and try that now.

nice, but you should replace the barrel and make it an SBR now that it'll be free to do so

No. All of these rifles have worked just fine with my previous reloads using CCI 200 primers and IMR 4064. I was trying to find a substitute for IMR 4064 since it’s impossible to find now and it has skyrocketed in price. I really think there just isn’t enough volume in the case to make an instant ignition, which is quite surprising. I had a powder charge in the case and held it almost horizontal and I could see the primer flash hole.

About a year ago I made some reloads using Accurate 2520 for my Madsen M47, and I noticed an ever so slight “click bang” with those reloads, but I just attributed it to the primers, since the primed brass I used had been sitting in a plastic bag for a good 6 years or so. So I thought maybe the primers were starting to go bad. Now I realize it must have been because of the 2520 powder just isn’t filling the case enough.

I should note in case you didn’t see it at the end of the last thread, 4 rifles were experiencing this little issue, and all 4 worked fine with reloads using IMR 4064.

That's bizarre, I used 42 grains of 2520 for my Garand reloads and they all rain great. Used Ginex primers too.

shred cotton balls to fill up the extra space and keep the powder stacked on the primer. will also prevent overpressure spikes from underloaded rounds.

That’s the only thing I can think of is the volume of powder in the case. These primers have always worked fine for me, and the powder has worked fine in other calibers. I’ve never experienced anything like this with any reload, using any other powder or primer.

Yeah man I really want one of these as well
ngl I think I want a Gewehr 41 a bit more. I know people say to never shoot one but I shoot a couple hundred rounds through all my guns each year (especially if its corrosive ammo cause I always shoot enough of it to make the clean up worth it) so I would definitely break that unspoken rule. Would be fine shooting clean ammo but I have 900 rounds of 70's Yugo and a can full of pre war german SMK bullets.

I was trying to get one on some gun forums but the guys make it too much of a hassle so I might end up just waiting till Tusla (Will Probably have more money to spend by November as well)

There is gonna be one in row 26A at Tusla (at least there should be) but I'm gonna pass on it cause I've already gotten a look at it. Has a crack along the wrist going from the tang to the underside of the rifle but it does have a scope and mount for it.

if its just a wood crack thats literally not a big deal, use it as a haggling point, get it and glue it.

Update. I wanted to eliminate the primers as a potential cause of the hangfires. So I loaded up some rounds trusty IMR 4064 and used both the CCI and Ginex primers. Every round I fired went off just fine. So it’s definitely powder related. I’m just going to abandon the idea of using Accurate 2520 for my Garands. It seems to work just fine in .308 and a couple other calibers I’ve used it for.

I did some research and have a jug of N135 powder on the way.

I might try and get it then but idk. I'm more keen on getting the exact one that hits all the bells and whistles for me. I think he wanted $5500 or $6000 but he originally had it up for $8000 cause he didn't really want to sell it (would've bought it there but I couldn't get 2 grand out of the ATM and I had driven 3 hours to the gun show)
Also Alpfeltor is retired so idk if I can even get a good shooters kit now

https://www.frontline-militaria.com/g43-shooters-kit-gas-system.html
I think this one right here is the only real competitor but it doesn't have the customizability you can get with Apfeltor. I was planning on asking him to make one that just disables the gas system to make clean up a bit easier and so I don't fly through my ammo
If you do have a shooters kit I'd be willing to buy it at Tusla but thats if I get a Gewehr 43 (Like I said might get a 41 instead plus I'd need to find one AND it has to be a reasonable price along with a whole bunch of other stuff)
>>
>>64202867
>Several went "cheap" this spring. the prices on them are a bit in flux, if you diligently follow online auctions you could get lucky.
I've been looking off and on for one though I was made aware of a Gewehr 41 that might be coming up for sale locally a few months back, so I figured I'd hold out and save for that one since 41s are far less common.

If you're going to spend over $5k on a German semi auto, just shoot some non-corrosive ammo through it. You'd be better off not having to worry about missing a spot while cleaning and having something corrode on a rifle like that.
>>64203062

That's a fair price provided it's not sanded and the optic is an original scope. Original mounts alone are going for $2k these days and the original mounts are harder to find than the scopes.
>>
>>64203101
>>64203102
yea, I definitely have some spare plugs at least, so even if you find one with a shooters kit already installed, sans plug, I can give you a solid plug. I usually do the solid plug / bolt action thing on the nicer 43s and my Itajuba to save the wear n tear. I do have a beater one I shoot semi auto.

G41 mogs all of them though, it is a much better range toy.

>If you're going to spend over $5k on a German semi auto, just shoot some non-corrosive ammo through it. You'd be better off not having to worry about missing a spot while cleaning and having something corrode on a rifle like that.
Yeah thats what I was thinking. I don't have any experience cleaning out corrosive ammo from semi autos (I'd probably just dump water on into the gas block then spray it white with balistol). I'm fine with buying clean ammo but holy shit its hard to spend $1.20 per bullet on clean ammo when you get surplus from .20-30 cents per bullet.
>That's a fair price provided it's not sanded and the optic is an original scope. Original mounts alone are going for $2k these days and the original mounts are harder to find than the scopes.
Looking back at my pics and video's the stock did look sanded but the scope might be original since it had the sun shade and he said he got it off a boomer who's friend brought it back from the war.
>>64203119
> I usually do the solid plug / bolt action thing on the nicer 43s
Yeah thats what I was thinking. Make it a bolt action and spend more time shooting the same amount of ammo and extend the life of the gun by a LOT since nothing is getting banged around

Also by chance do you know how sealed the thing that pushes the op rod back on the G41 is? I was watching a guy take on apart and it looked so closely sealed that It makes me think it's easier to clean than G43
>>
>>64203134
both are very easy to clean, that shouldnt be a concern, but yea the G41 gets less fowling in the chamber area, but instead you're cleaning the gas trap so theres no real time saved
>>
>>64203185
I always figured if I had a g41 I'd throw the gas trap section in a tub of hot water then just water and balistol the threads.
Hopefully I'll own one soon. Probably can only afford to spend 6-7 thousand on one but that should still get you something really good I imagine (although trying to find a boomer that has one and isn't trying to rape the price is probably gonna be harder than getting the money)

Nah I cant afford one right now lol and even then I could only do it if I got one without taxes and/or auction fee's
I will say I have a memory of seeing a Gewehr 43 at Tusla but it was as I was leaving and I only glanced at it so hopefully I can find one granted they dont all get taken when the dealers are setting up (which I might not need to worry about since I might split a table with some friends)

Only issue about this whole thing is I'm not 21 so unless its a private dealer that owns one I cant walk out with it that day and I'll need to get it sent to my FFL which will add 2 weeks ontop of however long shipping time is cause I've never been lucky with my background checks passing early

You'd have better luck there than anywhere else. There was a table that had around 25 G/K43s for sale a few years back though they got snatched up pretty quick. You could always try Show of Shows too, think that's in January next year.

I gotta drag my ass to Tulsa someday.
I make a pretty good cleanup at the January Vegas Show every year so im not THAT desperate, but it would be neat to see it.

I also like the January Vegas show cause we always get drunk and swap badges with randos for Shot Show and World of Cement
>>
>>64203399
Hopefully I can find some stuff like that, this will be my 3rd time going, first time (November of last year) I started on the first floor and skimmed a lot of the 2nd but did the reverse back in April
I will say in April I saw a table with about 100 Finnish Mosins which was pretty wild and right near that guy was a dude that was selling 2 400 round ammo cans of 8mm Mauser for $100 so I hope that guy is there again (only bought 1 and it was 3/4th pre war German SMK)
I remember telling someone that I was shooting a bunch of that pre war stuff and they told me to stop cause it’s rare and expensive but idk lol (it’s made to be shot anyways)
>>64203415
I want to try to go to both of those shows but the “show of shows” is 8 hours away and Vegas is 20 and I don’t have cases to put them in safely so they’d get dinged up in flight
Also god damn I want one of those Pederson rifles someday, maybe I can have one within 10 years if my Pilot degree works out and I get a job at an airline
>>
>>64203428
This is how I feel also with Vegas vs Tulsa. Vegas is a 1 day drive vs 3/4 day drive to Tulsa for me. Same, I would never cleanout at a major show and trust the airlines so at a minimum im driving to everything.

> I want one of those Pederson
IIRC they were $50k so maybe get a few years of those pilot checks first
>>
>>64203452
Nah there is 2 on gun broker for less than 25k

I know a guy who’s 27 and got an 80k car with the left over money from a couple pilot checks last December and he’s already payed it off which is fucking insane
