>>64203621> Federal American EagleVery weak cartridgeIt doesn’t even cycle my 1903 unless u replace the wolf spring with a dying spring. Why not run fiocchi or modern S&B.
want one of these, and i am i really losing that much without the extra 0.6" of barrel? I get more OWB and IWB holster options with 4" but isn't the performance negligible? Price also not much of an issue, they are super close in price
>>64203654Also it’s more expensive than the euro 7.65
>>64203654>Why not run fiocchi or modern S&B.Counter question, why bother? I got the Federal for a good price and it runs great in a gun I won't shoot a ton.
>>64203666I paid $0.30 a round satan
I’m about to get my first handgun.I live in a shitty noguns country so none of the ammo is actually made here, and all 9mm has a price floor that makes a lot of 9mm incredibly close to each other in cost. To make it worth it I’ll buy 3000 rounds on my first purchase.Should I avoid specific brands for any reason you could thing of?I am considering Hornady TAP training FMJ or Federal American Eagle, but I see the other brands offerings and realise I have no experience to compare these things so I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions.I can get your typical brands like Blazer, Federal, Winchester, Remington, Hornady, MagTech, PMC and some weird ones I don’t see online often like GECO and Aguila.
>>64203664Why would you ever want something that looks like THAT
>>64203651Companies won't start going retro until HK makes the USPA1 or something like that. Right now we are still within 2011 mania, and nothing new will probably happen until SIG's contract is up in 2027.
>>64203689>GECOIf it's 124gr buy that. Extremely good stuff.
>>64203445I have two to do still. Did one a few years ago with no jig, came out so-so.Actually looks really good when you consider I had to fill in a ton of missing material in the magwell and scratch fabricate my own grip stick threads in a piece of billet, then mill out the old torch cut threads and weld mine in, but the kit I had to start with was rough and there was only so much I could do.Two left to put together came from numrich instead and the receiver pieces are fantastic. Are you doing yours with a jig?If so where'd you get it?
>>64203692124gr copper plated LRN, those are also slightly cheaper than the other options I was looking at.Thank you for the reply, I’ll look into those.
>>64203697I have four very nice numrich kits and three Appalachian arms absolutely dogshit kits with horrible oxy torch cuts and deformed upper receiver bodies.Going to have a go at the AA ones with my TIG for practice. I have a jig, yes, cheap ebay aluminum one. Hopefully it helps.

>>64203717>art doesnt matter.Actual soulless golem.
>>64203710>Hopefully it helps.Rooting for you anon. Anything is better than nothing, I spent hours tacking mine together trying to get the geometry lengthwise correct, and it still ended up being 1mm off. Had to notch the one pin on the left side slightly to allow the top cover to slide back. You can't tell of course, and it functions 100%, but I am a freak perfectionist and it eats at me bad enough I'll probably cut it apart and correct it some day.Definitely going to pick up a jig this time just to save myself the hassle of figuring my own out.
>>64203775Any general advice before I attack mine? I've done a CETME C and two AKs from 80% flats and non-demilled parts kits. And P80s/80%1911s
>>64203689Generally avoid winchester and remmington bulk ammo, I like magtech because it's pretty fucking good and pretty cheap, but if price is nesrly the same blazer and federal have much tighter QC and it shows by how many duds and light strikes you get. Magtechs maybe every 2-3k at least in my guns, blazer is like 1 in 5k. I don't have much expirence shooting 9mm in the other brands you mentioned.
>>64203462Gun.deals or just generally locked and loaded.Bfg fucked me out of my GX4 order boys. It never arrived and eventually my FFL called and told me to just cancel that shit because they had never had a gun take that long to arrive from a dealer. BFG outfitters charged me 25% to cancel the order and said their shipping time of at that point 8 days without even creating a shipping label was "industry standard".Oh well, got to take my Argentinian and Polish friend shooting with some other buddies and they had an awesome time and loved the BG 2.0 and 509c, but were enamored by the coach shotgun and KSG my friend brought because "it's just like my videogames"

>>64203802>BFG outfitters charged me 25%Charge back the fuckers, that's clearly a scam.
>>64203805Thanks! It was something like $240 for the gun, light, and three mags from big iron cerakoting in PA
>>64203429I have a few questions for those who know a lot about the 1911.>One, if the locking surfaces on the barrel or frame were too loose, what issues (symptoms) would this cause?>Two, if the face on the rear of the extension that the barrel link lug were too "short" (front to back) or the slot in the frame was too "long" (causing a bigger gap), what issues/symptoms would that cause? Can it be "too tight"? Heck, is "too loose" even possible?>Three, is it normal to see a mark (shiny/removed bluing) from the slide stop's shaft going across the front face of that barrel link lug? What would cause this?>Would any of these stress the barrel link or the slide stop pin more than would be reasonable?Keeping questions a little vague, I know, but I think I figured something out and I'm trying to stop anons from overthinking my questions, much like you tell a smith or mechanic the symptoms and don't put your thought of what is wrong in their head (and screw with their conclusions).
>>64203802I shot my buddies sig 320 10mm and unfortunately loved it. My buddy who owns the sig said the hi point was the softest shooting piece of shit he's ever shot. The JXP 10 is like a velvet turd, soft but stinky.
>>64203829There was 5 of us occupying 3 stalls and I was trying to micromanage the new shooters and keep them having fun and staying safe while also helping some boomers wife with her raven arms 25acp malfunctions (she was attempting to shoot 22lr through it) and feeding my buddy who brought the sigs the guns he wanted to shoot and loading mags for everyone. It was hectic. Someone reported a light strike with the bodyguard this time with magtech, another guy reported my LMT had a failure to feed. I didn't witness either and am gonna chock it up to new shooters but may have to take a closer look at the BG 2.0 if I keep having these light strike issues in a more stable environment.
>>64203824Failure to fully go into battery which may appear to be light strikes at first glance. And failures to feed. Look up barrel bump as well >Keeping questions a little vague, I know, but I think I figured something out and I'm trying to stop anons from overthinking my questions, much like you tell a smith or mechanic the symptoms and don't put your thought of what is wrong in their head (and screw with their conclusions).Something about your phrasing or grammar in this screams "nutter that thinks they're smarter than they are." It was extremely off-putting and I expect replying to you is a massive waste of my time. I genuinely don't know what it is though.
>>64203779The receiver is very tight inside and thin, if you've put together a few flats you're probably fine from a welding standpoint, just take your time and don't rush.Do yourself a favor and get a set of carbide burr bits for a Dremel, they help immensely (something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09MSSXFWQ) when you need to get slag out a crazy tiny slot or hole, and they really help when you need to grind down weld overpenetration inside the receiver. If your grip stick threads are torched or damaged, don't even bother trying to repair or reuse them, just cut all the threads out, drill a 10mm hole in a piece of thick steel, then use a 10mm brass rod to line that up with the rate reducer rod channel vertically and weld it in, then drill and tap new threads. I think the grip stick is 15x1mm thread pitch? (Not sure)It's pretty straightforward, if you've already got a jig you're way ahead of the game.
>>64203858>Failure to fully go into battery which may appear to be light strikes at first glance. And failures to feed.Nope, I don't remember either (until my barrel link broke and I replaced it).>Look up barrel bump as wellWill do.>Something about your phrasing or grammar [...] was extremely off-puttingDamn, I was trying to avoid that. To clarify, I'm trying to see whether the problems with my Star are caused by a few things I noticed while inspecting it again trying to troubleshoot. Long ago, the barrel link snapped (no surprise) and when I fit and installed an EGW link, this time the slide stop pin bent. While I saw a video where a guy claimed to have soldered in a piece of hacksaw blade to the rear of his frame (behind the barrel link lug) to "fix" the Star BM barrel link breaking issue, his explanation left a LOT to be desired, especially considering as far as I remember, he really didn't explain why, how, or show any measurements. Just "I put a piece of hacksaw blade in there to shim it". After talking about my BM recently, it jogged some of my memories about the issues I had and I looked up a 1911 animation. If it's accurate (and the Star is similar enough), it does look like with a gap too large behind that lug (either lug or frame, choose a source of bad QC) might cause issues but I haven't found a 1911 gunsmithing resource that isn't an $80 book on Amazon yet. Not sure if I'm the only one with this problem or what as everyone else seems to have decent luck just fitting a new link. My personal hunch is that the recoil spring might be worn out causing the link to yank on that pin too hard and beat the gun to death. Haven't shot it in years because I don't want to fuck it up further.
>>64203908>Damn, I was trying to avoid that.Just how it is on this bitch of an earth, sorry if that was rude of me. 1911forum is a great place to look for info on fitting upper and lower barrel lugs, which should lead to some of the info you're looking for in a three degrees of separation way. Especially lower lugs. Is the barrel link allowing the barrel to go fully "up" into battery?Check by markings the breach face with a sharpie with the slide off and the barrel pushed in by hand to as high as it will go.Then assemble the gun and drop the slide and check if it's lower.
>>64203931Blue fine tip sharpie was bleeding too much (and then smearing). Instead used a freshly sharpened pencil. You might just be on to something. Gun is closed on empty chamber with no mag inserted. Apologies if I go silent randomly in advance; it's 4AM here and I really need to get up in about 4 hours and I've gotten zero sleep.
>>64203962Can the link move freely with the cross pin in it? (Outside the gun/slide)Or does the pin hit the lower lugs before moving back to the "locked" alignment?
>>64203990Took me a while to comprehend that but I think I understand what you're saying. The link moves freely with just the barrel and link in hand. However, when the gun is fully assembled, it does seem that the barrel is prevented from moving fully up to that mark even if I use a tool to pull up using the extractor cutout or push the slide forward by hand. Do remember the slide stop cross pin has a slight bow and gouge in it from the last time I shot it, though. With barrel and pin in hand, I can shine a flashlight behind it and see a little light around the pin in the link but not much.Probably going to go to sleep soon and answer later in the day. Thanks for the help, anon.

>>64203855>picrelThat is sooooooo real holy crap. Never had someone who owned guns have such bad luck but I've shot with a few people who just seem to be magically be able to generate malfunctions in everything I hand them, even though they are my guns and have been perfectly reliable whenever I've shot them. Took a girl out shooting and she somehow found a way to make a Geissele trigger fail to reset not once but twice and I had legitimately no idea how she was managing this. Ive never been able to repeat this problem myself. Women are just bad luck when interacting with mechanical devices...or boats...or planes to probably. Old sailors had it right

>>64204529>>64204634I have a range buddy whom I believe never handles his guns outside of the range, one time the only gun he brought had a physically loose and wobbly cylinder release that could have been solved easily and another time the red dot on his pistol had a dead battery.
I am buying another fixture for my range. I have a Texas star, plate racks, several full size ipscs, half size ipscs, some longer range gongs, and a ghetto dot torture drill made of a forest of 2 posts and 4 and 6 inch rounds.I am trying to decide between a polish plate rack and a dueling tree or an Irish star / propeller star target. The Irish star seems more fun but the polish plate rack is cheaper and i can get another target with it. Looking to spend just a bit over $1k.
>>64204814I like to shoot at garbage on public land. If there's no interesting garbage I like to shoot at rocks.
>>64204849That is fair but rocks are expensive and hard to find so I have to shoot steel targets instead. I am envious of your petrological ventures. What would you rather have of the options i listed?
>>64204849Do you live in a sandy climate? Shooting rocks when they may be granite seems like a bad idea.
>>64204869the propeller one looks like more fun
>>64204886they're mostly basalt, but why would shooting granite be a bad idea?
>>64204918The physical properties of granite keans its a very tough rock that often breaks into angular shapes or gets rounded over time in rivers. The result can be unpredictable and can result in ricochets.
>>64204948oh, yeah I stand back pretty far when I shoot rocks. The only ricochet I ever had that I learned something from was when I shot an old CRT tv with birdshot. That was a safety glasses type event.
>>64203802Oh nooooooo, 8 whole days????!!!!???You poor baby!
>>64204970I had ordered the Bodyguard 2.0 from Locked and Loaded the same day I ordered the GX4 from BFG and had already had several range trips and 800 rounds through the bodyguard before I canceled the gx4. Locked and loaded, gun zone deals, and kygunco all have had my orders to my FFL ready for pickup 2-4 days after I ordered.I won't be back in Florida until around Christmas so my opprotunity to buy a GX4 was ruined by a shitty scam company that undoubtedly makes most of their money on canceled orders.
>>64203717>it's a toolNo, tools are for work. It's a toy.
>>64204967>The only ricochet I ever had that I learned something from was when I shot an old CRT tv with birdshot. The one ricochet that I learned something from was shooting with my buddy on his dad's property. His dad had an old steel hot water heater set up as a ~500 yard rifle target, but buddy and myself were at ~30 yards shooting handguns that day at paper targets stapled to old railroad ties. His dad rolls up on a quad bringing us a few cokes and bottles of water, just to hang and see how we're doing. He asks if he can try his son's new 38 revolver.Takes aim at the paper, he's fucking bullseye right away with the 3" barrel at 30 yards, ace shot. Pisses my friend off immediately, lol. Just for shits and gigs, he pops the water heater to make a big gong noise.Fucking ricochet comes straight back at him. No joke, you can see some hairs falling down to the ground as a little line of blood appears dead center down the very tippy top of his head.Just a scratch, but might as well have parted his fucking hair.We all stare at each other fucking speechless as he reaches up and touches his scalp to make sure it's not got any extra holes in it.He says "Well boys, think that's me done for the day, I'm going to go buy some lottery tickets."We keep shooting, but also keep talking about how insane that was. Ended up being the best lesson I've ever had on "know your target", constantly think about that one now whenever I'm shooting.Old guy did actually go out and buy $100 worth of lottery tickets afterwards.I think he ended up winning $2 total.
>>64205116that's a good story, I've seen a couple videos of people shooting at steel wheels, those tend to throw the bullets right back at you. I'll add water heaters to the list of things not to shoot at.
>>64203855Oh hey man, were you the guy I was talking to about your BG2.0 getting light strikes the other day?Had a chance to run a box of 50 of both the "green streak" 380 and federal HST 380 thru mine. Still 0 light strikes. Green streaks ran flawlessly though are weak as piss, even by plinking standards. HST's were pretty hot, ran generally well except for two issues; 1. Had a round nosedive in one mag. Same as like what happened a couple times with Winchussy whitebox. Maybe a mag issue? The factory mags are super hard to seat when not downloading by 1 round and 2. Slide would not lock back on empty with HST's. Could be that the recoil is overcoming the slide lock. So far still no issues apart from the occasional nose diving round in the 10rd mag. I think I'm gonna get another one to try. HST's seem like the right stuff otherwise. Data for ammo below btw>green streak 100gr 380 ACP - BG2.0728.4 fps avg SD 33.8ES 128.6KE 117.8 FT/LBS>federal premium HST 99gr 380 ACP - BG2.0874.2 fps avgSD 8.1ES 23KE 168 FT/LBS
>>64203664Can't tell you what the holster selection looks like for you in specific but I was able to fit a 3.6" CSXE in a regular 3.1" CSX holster for my friend by heating the muzzle area of the kydex up and pushing the gun into it.

The range I was shooting at in Florida has Magulas in every stall and It was absolutely essential for the 12 rounder. My 10 rounder I was barely able to load 10 rounds, but the 12 rounder I could just barely get 11 without the magula.

>>64204457I'll be honest, about 10-15% of that is a little over my head (especially page 8) but that's a lot more info than I've been able to find otherwise; thank you anon. I'll probably have to re-read this a couple times to fully understand it. On detail 3 between A and B is where I see that silver mark mentioned earlier, btw. However, I think my BM may need to be taken to someone who specializes in 1911s, or at least knows as much as a "real" gunsmith should, which is hard to find these days; hell, I'm currently having some bad gunsmith luck on another gun. The slide stop pin in mine is damaged like I said (need to replace or repair), and now that I'm remembering, due to the bend and gouging, it wanted to fall out of the gun (to the left) last I shot it. And the little detent pin wanted to unscrew. And I think it refused to engage on empty a certain percent of the time because of it being poorly maintained (or bad QC). IDK how I never complained to the place I bought that thing, holy fuck. $250 Star is going to cost me like $600 total easily lol. Shame because I like it in theory.
>>64205563It went over my head but as you fit the barrel in the next steps with the contact marker material you can see where the barrel makes contact it makes sense >>64205357RCR is the most durable but it sucks otherwise. >>64205116I don't like how I noticed this guy traces his guns, the angle of the crotch pistol gives it away as a trace.
>>64206041Since you're here burt, any ideas what could be causing the light strikes I have been having with my BG 2.0 I spoke about a week or so ago? If I could self diagnose it would be better than bothering with S&W customer service at my Airbnb in Detroit. I cannot link you the previous post if you missed it because the thread links broke 8/23 which is like the thread after my post.Back in Washington to show my Argentinian and Polish friend Olympic national park, chinatown was just as chill as I remember.
>>64206116Tl;dr on the problems I've been having, I had 18-19 light strikes with the 450 rounds of AAC ammo I had, one light strike out of 100 with the federal HST, and potentially one light strike out of 200 rounds of magtech if my friend didn't somehow fuck it up or induce a failure.
>>64206151If the tip of the firing pin isn't visibly damaged then it's probably something you can't fix like the striker channel being 0.5mm too shallow or something. Doubt it's a weak spring or a burr but the latter at least you can inspect forThat's also the kind of thing a company will shoot 10 rounds and say "no problem detected" and ship the gun back, so I hope that doesn't happen :( I hope you kept those dented primers to send with the gun

How tight should the retention on a kydex holster be? Right now I'm running a LTT Elite with a Surefire 300 in a JMCK holster. I've tightened it but when I hold it upside down and shake, the gun falls out a little. Now granted, this gun and light combo is a little over 2 pounds fully loaded so am I just being unrealistic in my expectations here? I don't forsee myself or the gun holster being upside down very often so should I loosen it for a an easier draw and just accept that if I shake it upside down, it will come loose?
>>64206473Sure thing tubbs
>>64206638>falls out a littleThat would be fine if you were talking leather, heavy gun and what not, but kydex? Doesn't it click on in and out? If gun moves out a little bit, does it not fall out completely? If something is holding it still, it's good retention.
>>64206638Is this OWB or IWB? When people say retention holster they usually mean holsters with locking mechanisms like a safariland style hood holster or some with a lever that must be depressed for the gun to be removed. Not purely friction
>>64206473first off, you're fucking fat. Second, who the fuck carries a shadow LMAO

>>64206817You can’t really get good “”retention”” with a light bearing holster without a spring loaded mechanism or hood. It just needs to not fall out from jumping and running. m1911 vs glock in reliability
>>64209412Glock wins no contest.
What are some solid after market grips for an LTT compact?
>>64206812>ChiappaAnon, I...
>>642094121911s are the pinnacle... of range toys. They have gorgeous looks and wonderful triggers. Most of them are picky about ammo though, and all of them are more picky about maintenance than a Glock. Glocks are what you get for "I don't want to fuck with it" simple reliability. They're like a Toyota Camry, middle of the road price, ugly, uninteresting, but won't let you down, a 1911 is like a classic sports car. My prewar Colt runs like a top, with FMJ and the right magazine. I've never run it dirty and maintain it OCD-like so I don't know how it tolerates neglect. It hates most JHPs and some aftermarket mags. The cheaper springfield 1911 isn't as picky about mags but it still doesn't like many JHPs and occasionally malfunctions. This is typical of 1911s from what I've seen over the years.>>64207903>AmericansIt's nignogs that do that, not "Americans". Most nignogs are barely human, let alone "American".

>>6420363510mm, if gun only allows 40 length, 357 Sig
>>64210811Kind of, I think they make a huge impression on people who aren’t good at recoil mitigation (stance, grip technique, predictive shooting). If you’re good, then it doesn’t really reduce split time (time between shots) it just makes it easier/less effort to shoot. Porting doesn’t seem to have that much reliability issues due to no added mass to the action but compensators can definitely make it start malfunctioning especially with a tilting barrel like a Glock. They’re definitely fun, make your gun louder, but don’t get the impression that it will turn you into John Wick as you still need to put the effort in to get good hits.
>>64210811I'm not a big fan of either, but comps are substantially more effective than ports in my experience, due to the additional mass.

>>64203429Hey if I don't have a timer and only have an indoor range what can I use?
>>64211937
>>64211937You can set a timer on your phone for 5 seconds extra. And start shooting after you watch 5 seconds pass. The timer I use works decently indoors, the Shooter Global Go timer since it has adjustable sensitivity, I use mine at 30% sensitivity and it mostly 99% of the time works unless people are shooting rifles unsuppressed in the next stall.
>>64211937You can get various shot timing apps on your phone. They work pretty well if nobody else is shooting around you. If it's a crowded range, then you might be SOL. If you don't have a 25 yard range, you can print a smaller target and use that, but that's mostly a cope, because I've found that it's substantially easier to shoot a half sized target at half the distance. I can hold one inch groups at 12.5 yards easily, but two inch groups at 25 is much harder. I don't know why this is.
>>64211937you don't need anything to shootJust do drills and work fundamentals if you don't have a shot timer. You can set up par times by running a timer on your phone for a couple seconds and try to beat out the timer for draw and fire
>>64211970I think the max my indoor range has is 75 feet so it is 25 yards so that's good

Would .22 be retarded to carry? Genuinely considering buying a TX22 and trying to rationalize it since I want the FRT for it. Could be a range toy i guess but eh
>>64212366Generally, yes. If you need to put down a dude on angel dust or speed, a .22 isn’t the ideal round to do that.
>>64212366Terminal effectiveness aside (it’s not good), .22 long rifle is a rim fire cartridge and is inherently more unreliable than center fire. It still exists today due to momentum of .22 lr and how it cheap it is to make rimfire versus centerfire. While “legal” for now, FRTs will not look good to the prosecutor and you’ll probably be hit with MG charges anyway because they either don’t know how it works or care.
>>64212366The only excuse for carrying a .22 is ludicrously small size and even that isn't a good reason because the Ruger LCP and Lelkek exist. The TX22 isn't small at all.
