I was aware of the akstuff “russian standard” parts but I appreciate the link for the bullet guide.
I’m looking at Blackbush Armory or Appalachian Gunworks for the conversion.
I’m assuming I’m going to have to go with pufgun and galil magazines after conversion. I’ve heard mixed reviews on Circle 10 and AC Unity magazines with converted Saigas.

Been out of the AK game for a few years and it seems everything has changed.

Want to build either an ak-102 or 105 clone and I'm not sure where to start.

PSA and WBP are both wallhanger toy shit. My PSA 5.56 AK102 broke right around 1200 rounds. Still haven't gotten in back from them.
IMO the current move is to have a good builder use 5.56 parts from FB Radom when they're in stock, in particular the bolt, carrier, barrel, and front trunnion, then combine with a Bulgarian rear side folder trunnion as those can still be found, then lastly the only PSA bit you need is their combo front sight base block. The rest you can cobble together with some google work.

It won't be true to the DNA, but it will be quality, it will be a real gun, and it will look the part.

https://armsofamerica.com/fb-radom/parts/

https://armsofamerica.com/ak-5-56-complete-bolt-assembly-original-beryl-archer-fb-radom-poland/

https://palmettostatearmory.com/ak-104-ak-105-combo-block-kit.html

Most of this shit is out of stock right now, which says a lot about the market.

Again, DO NOT buy a PSA or a WBP.

I can understand cast being bad, but what about billet parts? Some high-end AR receivers are made using billet.
>>
>>64212658
Damn, I’ve been really tempted by their krink line.
>>
>>64212876
Pic related. Billet parts will be better than cast but not as good as forged.
Its worth noting that casting doesn't automatically equate to bad or weak. A lot of the strength depends on the quality of the casting. Forged is still best though.
Ruger casts a ton of their firearms including mini 14/30 receivers. FALs sometimes used cast receivers without issue.

You're going to just have 2 rear sights, yes? So one of them can be zeroed, it would put the other out of zero, right?
Where's the co-witness?
It's not like you'll be able to look through the peep of the A2, down the rear AK sight and even if they were on the same plane both of them somehow are both aiming at the same point.
(Height over bore and distance between the front and rear sights would be different)

If you aren't actually just trolling, I hope you get better. You are a mentally ill individual in the same way a schizophrenic person is. The difference is their delusions are treated as delusions, *your* delusions are treated as though they're real. That's not fair to you at all; a schizo truly and honestly believes their delusions are real as well but we don't affirm them for obvious reasons. What should be obvious anyway.

If your WASR 10/63 has a magwell that isn't loose and iron sights that aren't canted, then you have basically a civilian PM md 63. That's worth celebrating in of itself fren.
>>
>>64222930
I've got one mag that flat out doesn't work. That's okay. I took the spring and follower out of it to reuse elsewhere. I can still use the mag body as a bottle opener. Probably gonna make a single round "magazine" out of it and put it on my keychain.

What, got a link for that? Are you sure they have 1:7 twist chrome lined 5.56 barrels? I've never seen them carry that. In fact over the past several years the only source for such an AK barrel that I've seen have been the Bulgarian ones from KVAR.

Oh wow I didn't realize that their price of $4500 was decent?
I just picked a MAK-90 Sporter basically in original configuration from them yesterday for... $620 out the door. They're a good local gun shop. Best in Albuquerque NM hands down.
Thanks for the pistol grip link. Shame they don't have a full furniture set available. Do you know what the story is on that website/company and the components? NOS being currently imported? NOS that has just been hanging around for decades? Is that actually PolyTech?
I am gonna snag this also, but maybe a little later:

As far as I know, yeah. As for it's wares, no idea but that site's been kicking around for awhile.
Honestly you could probably find the grip a little cheaper, I was just poking around because I thought they might actually have a full set. That spiker is what a lot of guys use to deban the few ban era AKs left.
It's not going to be cheap, and the spiker cut HG is probably going to be the most difficult to find.

The Beryl barrels are 1-9 too iydk.
>Bulgarian Arsenal Barrel
Those can be a bitch to build around but they are tanks. I guess if you already have one you could go really skunkworks and build up with Bulgarian or Serb bolt parts since those barrels are journal'd to short lug bolts. Look up AKBLUE 5.56 builds and you'll see what I'm talking about. He built them with M85 bolts and trunnions but with Bulgarian front ends. So you could use that barrel to build up an M21 clone starting with an M85 pistol. May as well since Jewstava will never import them apparently despite a fat whore of a gaping hole in the market for mid-size carbines (between 12-14" barrels) the ACE 13" practically has a monopoly on it unless your fine with boring ARs or $5000 gorillion Euro trash with no spare parts (CZ Bren, APC223).

I was under the impression you can just turn down the trunnion journal diameter from 23mm to 22mm then use it with a 74/100 series long lug bolt and front trunnion. You'll have a mismatch though because the rear sight base journal on the barrel is I believe AKM spec? Could be wrong, but visually an AKM rear sight base isn't really distinguishable from a 74/100 series as far as I'm aware, so you can just grab any AKM rear sight base and use that.
Yeah the stuff with Zastava is sorta weird.

Why are the Polytech MAK 5.56/223 guns ranked BELOW WBP guns? Why is the WASR-3 ranked below WBP guns?

>can't try being a best goy DoD contractor any harder
>>64229781
Light I said you can skunkworx/Bubba it into working, I know people have made those barrel work without being forced to use other overpriced KVAR shit. The Bulgarian barrels have the journals set for a short lug bolt (Bulg, China, Galil, Valmet use Short lug fat stem bolt in 5.56) but then it has the RSB journal diameter set to AK47 Type 3 (Bulgars never invented the akm RSB lol) and then uses an AK74 gas block and I think AKM front sight. So you can always turn it down in the right places but IDK if the gas block and more important handguard retainer cut line up proper. I had issues doing sorta the opposite getting an AoA wBp journal cut barrel to run with a short lug Bulgy bolt.
>pic is how fuckin deep the AoA barrel is set back in trunnion without using the gay Pollock wbp Jewish marketing bolt
>>64229781
You have to understand that ranking list is not reflective of the manufacturers, some of them like PolyTech especially swung it of the park with their 7.62s but absolutely shit the bed with 5.56 designs. In the case of the AKS-223 they were know for excessive, case tearing overgassing and never had reliable magazines(they don't take Norincos vice/versa). WASRs basically had peak schizophrenic Century quality control, terrible magazine availability and unreliable mag compatibility reported, I did consider re-ranking them into D but the current imported batch with 2019 dated trunnions are absolute junk and supposedly aren't even CHFCL anymore

>rankings summed up to a non556 Wizard
>F guns with the worst functionality/quality control. Need I sum up PSA and their total lack of R&D. Yes preban PolyTechs in 5.56 were so bad most were rebarreled to 7.62 to get sold
>E these can be good funtional guns if you win the QC lottery or invest parts in them: postban Norincos were almost as bad as Polys, WASR-3 peak Century Monkey conversions, PACs that disintegrate FBs but otherwise may actually have good bolts in them.
>D basicaly sme as E but better QC. It's the wierd Gypsy and Pollak guns with fully proprietary parts and questionable barrel accuracy
>C this level always got hate so I made it more balanced. It's effectively Silo'd preban designs and more modern stuff but still need aftermarket investment to be usable (Saigas need to be un-ATF raped, M90NP had AWFUL stocks and some QC issues, Current Arsenal 5.56 need friggin rear receiver milling completed and reddit piston to not destroy thmselves because Vartan buys reject gypsy ass whore gaped gas ports)
>B Valmet M76 cus why not, it's the Snow Galil built by unjewish hands (still one of the absolute worst for mags, it even hurts their MG value), Molot Vepr, 106 is the only AK101 clone we'll ever get apparntly in US but it's still a kludge mechanically, M90 which despite some QC issues I think for a buyers perspective is the best all around 5.56 import AK option in inventry still
>A so these are unfailing tanks. The older SA-M5 Arsensl actually built in US from almost 100% Bulgarian parts, this includes the rare A-USA K101 built by Gordon tech before KVAR monopolized Kazanlak. Preban Galils, doesn't include kit builds which vary all over the place in quality (I got burned going the build route). Beryl becuse it's probably the most rigorously tested military 5.56 AK. Only things keeping it from S are the front heavy handling and it Silos you into using stupid Polack accessories.
>S the few are far between Veprs that were imported in uncucked manner

I had my Russian AK-74 built by Appalachian. Overall easy to deal with and he did a great job just forgot to repaint something I asked to repaint and the front sight isn't as straight as I'd like (it is well within spec, but my InRange built AKM is basically perfect for comparison). Both were non-issues to me, didn't bother bringing it up, so I'm not really faulting him for it.

I'm curious what issue you ran into.
>>
>>64234178
It was a Galil build which can be a bit more complicated vs standard AKM builds. It was back while he was at Middletown still and I think his work was being spread out amongst shop goblins so it's hard to fault him completely. It was a Galil on an ATI receiver I foolishly bought, that another Smith had already through up his hands on (because apparently SAR gas blocks are a different diameter than ARM barrels) so AKjohn pulled the barrel from the reciever to turn down the gasblock and then just re-indexed it to its previous point without actually checking if the bolt was making contact on both lugs so 200 rounds later after I'm happy with the build despite a sloppy paint refinish (the shop goblins got paint into the folding mechanism and it was coming off with paper towels) the gun starts loosing headspace because it's only headspacing on one Lug.
>I think he literally used it as learning experience for Galils because he mentions Galil bolt issues in one of his videos
So the lesson is just because a dude document's his builds and appears to be a good communicator doesn't mean he actually knows wtf he's doing. To be fair to him I did not attempt rectify the issues and just cut my losses and sold it as a gunsmith special. Another Smith I talked to more familiar with the ATI Galeos thought we could try putting another barrel on it but knowing the SAR gasblock issues I was just done with it at that point. I've even been told on the down-low that a Tortort receiver could be trading into problems by a builder i know is serious about engineering. Galils are a pain the ass to go from Kit to Gun. Best thing to do if you want a classic Galil really is just get a cheap Gallant and check headspace and mag fitment out of the box
>>
>>64234375
Gotcha. The most complicated thing on my build was the fact that it had dimpled barrel components. And he had already done A TON of Izzy 88s/87s and I had seen pics of many and they were perfect. You can't even tell where he blind pinned. The actual machining itself is really good.

I will say on the topic of paint; the texture of the paint itself on the parts that were repainted is a bit rough. IDK if that is the way INTL MIL CO Russian Black lays on or if it just contamination from the shop. Paint is better (smoother) on my InRange build.

I mainly went with him because he was local (<2 hour drive). Next build I will probably just send it off to InRange/Troy Sellars.

Like I said, overall no complaints and I definitely don't fault him anywhere. The gun shoots absolutely amazing. The actual machine work installing the barrel components is top notch. Id absolutely recommend him for an 88/87 Izzy build.
