How long will the guns abandoned on battlefields in Ukraine still be functional or recoverable? Are kids just gonna be stumbling across AK-74s for the next few decades in forests?
>>64219212>Are kids just gonna be stumbling across AK-74s for the next few decades in forests?yes
>>64219212The answer is yes of course. But I imagine post-war there's going to be extensive de-mining and having volunteer teams sweeping areas looking for grenades, artillery shells, and weapons as well.
>>64219279Weapons are probably pretty far down the list compared to tens of millions of mines
>>64219212Not very long. A couple of weeks outdoors in autumn weather and it's ogre.Ukraine isn't Afghanistan where you can leave a PKM in a ditch and then just go back for it a decade later and it still works.>Are kids just gonna be stumbling across AK-74s for the next few decades in forests? If they're lucky. If they're not, they'll stumble across UXO instead.
>>64219338There'll probably be a lot in random houses near the front or rubble but yeah, UXO
>>64219212I'm more interested in coming to belarus when this is all ogre and sweep through couple swamps for WW2 gear.
>>64219361Most of the good stuff has already been found. You'd be better off trying to get to soledar and getting those soviet caches in the salt mines
>>64219369Remember the Thompsons? >I member
>>64219389Didn't most of it fall in wagner hands?
>>64219212month in wet mud and anything steel is unsuablebut as was the case with ww2 and yugo wars people are gonna stash guns and grenades in basements and various places
>>64219212if it lays in a oxygen deprived material, it will be good to fire again
>>64219212When you think how many battlefield finds have probably been wrapped up and hidden by people on both sides, people will probably be finding functioning rifles for years.
>>64219212I wonder how much I’d going to gangsters to be sold to who knows where
>>64219212That's basically how the Russians found them.
>>64219212>kidsThere's a reasonable chance that there won't be any children in these areas for a very long time. I would be more concerned about undetonated munitions and mines.
>>64220689That's how they were issued.
>>64219506Ackshully if it’s completely submerged in mud it can last hundreds of years due to no oxygen
>>64219212Enjoy this certified hood classichttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgrJElGOMMg
>>64221523mud is dirt + water, and water is like 7/8 oxygen by mass, if mud didn't rust things then guns wouldn't get rusty at the bottom of a lake either
>>64219279i think the dmz will be mined so i doubt it
>>64222345anoxic bogs have no oxygen, murder evidence can remain intact for thousands of years
>>64219249fpbp
>>64219295You're not really going to find weapons on the ground in areas where there aren't mines. If any stays unfound after demining is complete it will be from hidden stashes and warehouses that were forgotten by both sides. Stuff like Pvt. Ivanovish putting a box of grenades in a cave to protect them from being destroyed by enemy fire.
>>64223135Excalibur will be reclaimed when the United Kingdrom is ready to rise again
>>64222345>Water is 7/8 oxygen>What is h2o
Me grandpappy was a kid during the so called "great patriotic war." Said that you could find ammunition EVERYWHERE but actual guns were 404. Everyone loved throwing bullets into fires and pretending they were fireworks. Sometimes grenades would be found but the adults would claim those to fish with.
>>64225887>Grenade fishingBased
>>64225854You aren't saying what you think you're saying. Even though, based retard here >>64222345 isn't either. For very different reasons. Both of you should go back to high school and retake your intro to chemistry courses.
>>64219212>Are kids just gonna be stumbling across AK-74s for the next few decades in forests?look at how afghanistan was and tell me what the fuck you think.god damnit there will be teenagers hauling spg-9s back to their apartment to blow up old shitbox cars and post it on youtube probably.
>>64219212>Anecdote tiemI lived in Latvia for a while. Met up with a family in the countryside that found in stash of weapons and ammo carefully hidden in a sand quarry. The Latvian resistance had liberated such from soviets for future mischief. They had no idea if anyone knew or remembered, but it was about a dozen combat rifles and several large crates of ammo. They carefully cleaned and reconditioned all that shit up, probably had been buried for 20 or 30 years, then re-hid it for their own reference. This was just before 2010, and they will go to their graves with that shit ready for when ziggers come sniffing around again. Because, they firmly believe it will be "again," not "if." The husband is married to a Ukrainian who was relocated to Latvia from Ukraine by the USSR. They mentioned Ukraine was 'about to be' annexed by puccia and didn't feel NATO membership would prevent a play for the Baltic states.Y'all don't know what a prepper is until you've met a Latvian prepper (I also assume Estonian & Lithuanian, especially Estonian). I half believed them at the time and was only mildly surprised in 2014 when it all went to fuck.
>>64229080>"again," not "if."I mean it's not a secret. Every large scale Russian military exercise practices relocation and attack to west. Most key figures openly say this or as a minimum hint on it. Anyone suggesting different path for Russia gets shut down. Only wishful thinking or blind belief in white lies by absolute retards would cause anyone to think otherwise. The only missing link is proper opportunity - unrest or pro-Russian government in Baltics, unwilling or distracted western partners etc.
>>64219212>>64220800The dumbest assumption is 1. that kids will play outside these days rather than be glued to ticktok. and 2. that any kids will exist in any real numbers considering global birthrates are falling off a cliff. Yes even in India and Africa.
>>64219212I know a lot of people are socking away small arms and anything from grenades to lmgs and up are turned in. They use them to fight yes but in general a rifle or pistol is the upper limit for most ukes of what they'd even care to swipe.Small regional militias are going nuts scavenging though, uke patriot battalions that are kind of war crime units. Still not as bad as any russian but stories of "UKES DO IT TOO!" is just a bunch of unorganized bubbas being lawless.
>>64219338Actually a decade, you can still knock the shit off it. I give that 12 years though and that average falls off a cliff. I god's honest think that's the timeline.
>>64219249>>64223145and they will loose limbs feom countless mines
>>64225854>>64222345Dumbfuck niggers:a cup of random lake water is 37% oxygen by volume including the random shit most likely in it, and suspended gas o2.It eventually rusts steel, faster than mud by far.10 years means out of 100 dumped in a lake , 50 will be completely fine. in 12 years that number almost halves. In 15, perhaps 10% and it stays there for a while.Do you even watch battlefield recovery shows or have you ever dug anything up?
>>64219338Rifling won't last long on anything without chrome lining but guns have been found is hot and wet asia after decades and put back into service. It comes down to how much effort you are willing to put in, you can't just chamber a round and fire but with some solvent and a wire brush you can revive some pretty fucked hardware.
>>64229169Worth it for funs
>>64219212What will be more likely is that anyone who wants to buy an AK illegaly will easily get one. East-Yuros will remember the organized crime wave of the 90's when most assassinations were done with ex-yugo weapons.
>>64219338>a couple weeksMmm. No. For one, freezing water allows very little rust action so a large portion of that time will be doing almost no damage to the gun. For another, the most vulnerable parts would be pins, rivets, springs, small cylinders and the like simply to due small size, but most of those are either functionally non essential or inside the gun and thus minimally exposed.I would say 10-12 years for most before they're in danger of possibly being hand grenades.Of course it doesn't mean they'll be any good to shoot. Rusted to shit barrels and such. Imagine this:>year is 2040>little petor walking through arty'd out woodland>comes to a clearing with some funny ditches going between tree cropses>oh boy! Kalashnikov like my uncle who died to defend Ukraine used!>however and whenever, cleans it up and such, removes rust, greases it and such>goes out>cant hit a barn wall>2 shots out of 60 dink his grand dad's old paint cans at 20 meterMuch likely a abandoned gun will still be working, very likely your treasure find is 30+ MOAs.I am speaking from experience, to be honest.
>>64229080>Y'all don't know what a prepper is until you've met a Latvian prepperA dude living in a known hot spot where he intends to get killed in the first wave by shooting at the guards units tasked with annexing his shithole isn't a prepper. He's a boog larper only he's going to find out irl.Prepping used to be called survivalism because the goal was to LIVE not die like some retard like a guerilla. If anything he's even more retarded for being a Ukrainian who expatriated for income yet didn't get on a train to Germany or France with dramatically better standard of living and instead larps about fighting the USSR.
