Lovers cradle. It is an old shooting position the British army used to use in the redcoat days. The front line man bends over. He pops his hips and gets that ass up. The rearward man places his stock betwixed the bent man's cheeks. Then he strokes it back and forth to work out any creases in the pants material and get a good seat. When he is satisfied he fires his gun then removes it from the front man's cheeks. They then switch positions and repeat.

I actually prefer stock cradling when long-range sniping, seated, on a bench with a bipod or shooting bag. It's just so comfy and lets me get better micro-adjustments

Why?
Even if time wasn't of essence, having to change posture to reload seems like a problem.

Conservatism, most likely. The Americans had already beaten them the year before, so it's not like they doubted that the breech loaders could do the job in some way. But you're talking about British Army types in Ireland in the late 19th century - basically posh versions of modern day Ulster Loyalists - so it's not surprising that they would ignore progress and basic logic just to stick with tradition.

There's also this dude that DIY'd an unpowered spring loaded exo suit for airsoft. The MG42 on his left arm isn't as heavy as the real thing, but is defiantly heavy enough to not be able to swing it around one handed like he is without any mechanical assistance.

Even though breech-loaders existed at the time, they were still pretty new and there were a lot of people who looked down on them.
You know picrel, probably the best gun book ever written? The author's father, William Greener, wrote a book simply called "The Gun". It's nowhere near as good as his son's work, but it is of historical interest because a bunch of the book is the author whining about how shitty breech-loaders of the era were.
