Why are there about 20,000 Green Berets but only about a thousand Rangers? Are the Ranger's more elite? Are the Special Forces just teachers or do they do actual commando stuff?

>>64221413Rangers do conventional infantry stuff. They do it best, but there are a lot of alternatives if you want infantry stuff done well, like your various airborne and mountain divisions. GBs do unconventional and advisory stuff, there aren't really any alternatives to them so you need a few in backup, especially with the extreme attrition rates expected in a serious war; so it makes sense to have more SF than rangers.

The point of ranger school and the brutally high standards of the ranger units is so that there’s a high turnover and the soldiers leaving take their experience with them to big army. Unfortunately, for every person who’s humble about it and uses their knowledge to help others there’s two douches who think a tab makes them the second coming of Christ
