>>64231396My guess is that they've bought into the idea that the war in Ukraine, even if it hasn't made the MBT obsolete, has shown that they're very vulnerable and as such have decided that the future is lighter fire-support platforms with a greater emphasis on active protection systems and other types of protection that prioritize intercepting or disabling incoming threats to defeat them rather than armor.

I'm not sure if I buy that theory, but it would explain the weight class and armament, which is certainly not on the level of a conventional MBT.
