>>64239696>not a brother warIt's literally Koreans fighting each other and committing atrocities the whole time. Shut the fuck up. Also, who west of St. Petersburg uses the term "brother war?"
>>64239759NTA but they're korean so they're bugs, they have no concept of brotherly love.
>>64239696A very forgettable war. Idk why anyone finds it interesting. Chinese successfully zerg'd until they took heavy casualties and implemented a cease fire. That's really all there happened nothing more but lots of death and poor strategic/tactical decisions from both sides. Most people want to hear cool stories not much cool is said about this snooze cruise.
>>64239696the war is underrated but the mountainous terrain was absolutely brutal, especially in winter, and the war absolutely was a political retardfest at the high level if it technically still being ongoing somehow failed to tip you off
>>64239800>>64239791>Political fuck-ups. Korea destroyed Truman's presidency. Ironically, LBJ was terrified of Vietnam doing the same thing to him, so he took a series of steps that in the long run would make Vietnam worse.

It definitely had one of the coolest air wars. Saber vs MiG is about the most perfect match-up in the history of air combat. The B-29 raids were absolutely apocalyptic. Post-war super props got to enjoy ground attack heaven. IL2 Korea please be good

If MacArthur had been more careful, could he have ended up with a small North Korea as a buffer zone along the Yalu River?
>>64240033Maybe, but if he didn't leave his troops completely exposed as they were sweeping north korea the chinese wouldn't be able to retake it regardless. UN had no plans about occupying the north anyway so it'd be handed over to south Koreans at best to deal with their sovietized brethren. However the real best case solution would've been nuking soviets the moment they tried to chime in and ending cold war altogether.
>>64240033If truman was more based we could've had less chinamen fucking up everything on the planet.
>>64240050>UN had no plans about occupying the north anyway so it'd be handed over to south Koreans at best to deal with their sovietized brethren. They could probably reconsider if they had to fight off chinese attacks over it for some time though, if only just to deny this land to chinks and teach them a lesson.

>>64240059MacArthur's nuclear plan would have killed Koreans and Mongols in Inner Mongolia. He wanted to drop a cobalt belt on the Yalu and Tumen rivers, which would also kill Koreans in Yanbian. He wanted to drop nuclear bombs in ghe chicken's neck, which would massacre ethnic Mongols in Inner Mongolia.China later did both of these anyway. In the 1967-1969 massacres, many Mongols and Koreans were tortured to death and raped by Han Red guard cadres on the basis of their ethnicity in the Inner Mongolia incident and massacres in Yanbian. The CCP raped and massacred hundreds of thousands of ethnic Mongols in Inner Mongolia during the "Inner Mongolia incident" as well as killing and raping ethnic Koreans in Yanbian Prefecture. They literally sent trains filled with Korean corpses to the North Korean side of the border. Both of these massacres were during the 1960s and done on an ethnic basis.

I'm pretty sure I am reincarnated from a Marine in the Korean war. There is a picture of a guy at chosin with my exact likeness, even my parents thought it was me larping. I think it explains my life choices, my wife is Korean, and I took the same career path, and this was years before I saw the picture. Strange world.
>>64240050>so it'd be handed over to south Koreans at best to deal with their sovietized brethrencome the fuck on now.The norks at that point had been a state for 5, 7 years at best. They're more japanese than soviet.
>>64240663It wouldn't spark a ww3 if it's immediately ended, like it would have during that time. Soviets had no chance of stopping US bombers without SAMs and their own nuclear project netted them a single digit number of prototype-tier nukes carried by their B-29 copies. At worst they would load a plane and manage to nuke Berlin or Hamburg out of spite while their FRG-deployed forces throw themselves at NATO using their remaining supplies and ammo.I've actually researched the topic quite a lot and made a number of posts in related threads over the years here about it. Some of them are more nuanced and interesting but the 50s and to a lesser extent 80s that everyone is obsessed with are honestly not.

>>64241181Nah, but I almost went warrant for the Army. I got my bachelors while I was (cheapest degree mill that was recognized) and commissioned. One of my buddies made the switch about a year or so before me and is flying apaches now though.
>>64241200While I was still in*, I considered WOFT, but at the time I was already getting close with my degree, so I decided to stick it out for chance at getting something with a pointy nose.
>>64241209I'm not sure about the future of attack helicopters with all the seats for apaches getting cut in the pipeline as of now, so I've been leaning more towards commissioning. Also going back and forth on reupping because the whole infantry thing has not been what I was promised when I enlisted. What service would you recommend for trying to fly jets, it seems the navy is a more sure chance for anything in aviation, the airforce is difficult through ots and I know nothing about the marines other than I'd have to do more ranger school style shit as part of commissioning.
>>64239696The communists mudered a realtive of mine there, they just mudered him and the rest of the village he was in, stuck them in a room crowded in, old people, women, kids and killed them all.
>>64241238I think Navy or Marines is your best option. I'm not 100% up to speed on USAF, but in general their O recruiters (when I could even reach them) had said to expect an 18+ month wait to go to OTS, and it was my understanding that they don't guarantee a pilot slot like the Navy or Marines does. With that said, your prospects of doing rotary wing in the USN/USMC is likely since we have more of them. As far as commissioning through the Marines, you'll need to go to TBS, which is an infantry-lite course, but I wouldn't equate it to ranger school. Having said that from the Navy side, jets are as expected highly desirable, but theres a lot of guys who want to do P-8s and rotary wing, so that might thin out the competition. I will say you can pretty reliably get an aviator slot if you score well on the ASTB, I'd recommend checking out Air Warriors for more. Myself, and most, if not all of my (Navy) classmates, got selected immediately without going to board because of our scores, mostly because we all applied late in the fiscal year after regular quotas had run dry.
>>64239696Isn’t Korea subtropical for like half the year?
>>64240807Once a marine, always a marine applies to any subsequent lives a marine may live
>>64241292Only the Navy has you select a designation before going to OCS, which has the upside of you not going and hoping to get a slot but knowing that you're going as a pilot, though there is no distinction between rotary and jet during entry so it is a crapshoot there.

>>64241292I appreciate the information, especially regarding the prospects of getting fighter/bomber as most of the people I've talked to about this have kinda glossed over that aspect of the pipeline which I kinda assumed was just survivorship bias. Do you enjoy what you do? My current issue with being a retard with a gun is not being able to do the job. I've deployed but its always just been boring and not actually participating in a conflict other than being the target of incoming munitions. I guess I'm worried about investing all this effort and time into becoming an operational aviator and never getting to conduct real missions or blow things up. I know this is just a luck of the draw thing with timing and the military will always just be training cycle after training cycle, but I'd like to know if you enjoy your current work.
>>64241325>We fail Vietnam and then fail Korea>Wefuck off nigger. the Korean war was first and we didn't lose.
>>64241371Sure thing man>Do you enjoy what you do?I'm only a student, but after reflection, every day has been a blast. Its nice just having to worry about yourself and not be a tard wrangler for the time being. With that said, it is pretty tiring, I've done back to back flights each day (minus weekends) for the past 10 days or so, and it is definitely exhausting. I can't really speak to the fleet side of things yet, but in the red sea it seemed like fighter pilots and rotary wing pilots were getting some out there. The Navy uses the Seahawk for attack a lot more than I would have thought.

Some Chinese surrendered with their hands frozen to their rifles; Marines had to break the prisoners’ fingers simply to dislodge the weapons from their hands. > On the attack south from Koto, a Marine unit found Chinese in foxholes surrendering in such frozen condition that the Marines merely lifted them out of their holes and placed them on the road to thaw out.
>>64242468US had 300 nukes by the beginning of Korea, that's more than enough to double tap every major logistical node and population center in the soviet union, with a couple left for the chinese. It's really not even comparable.Soviets didn't even have radars that could track US bombers at high altitude prior to their adoption of the CPS-6 copy they started making based on atomic spy docmuments just in 1949 and not reaching comprehensive numbers until 1952. So there's a high chance that soviets wouldn't even know what hit them most of the time.

>>64242205HEY MOTHERFUCKER! My old drinking buddy served in that one and goddamn it he landed and repaired runways and actually heard some explosions. Another guy's toolbox caught a wild round too so he was literally fucked in a hellscape war zone!!one!
>>64240663>I rarely ever see ww3 scenarios not set in the 80s or later onIt was the best if times, it was the worst of times...
>>64243789Yeah. It totally stops at single payer healthcare. They never talk about incremental gains. And single payer is just, wow anon, it's somethin! Not a working something but any day now, on the 5 year plan, our math says... WEIRD! Guns got outlawed!Nah we ain't actually stupid man.
>>64239791Among many other things, It’s most notable for being the war that made America take up the mantle of world police. The drawdown after WW2 was immediately back to prewar levels but after the massive rearmament for Korea, it never drew back down again.
>>64239696No war is fun.
>>64239992I’ll literally lick Trumps and Musks asshole if it kills communists. The world is made more holy with every commie removed from our life.
>>64240033If had been less careful he could have gotten us in a war with China and Russia, the thought of which gives me an erection, but perhaps the best move was to let them fall out of love after Stain died instead of bonding harder through allied war efforts.
>>64240192Mongols were commie decades before Chinks. Based
>>64240624There are lots of men that find war fun. Even the boots doing the killing and dying. Don’t think I’m one but war is indeed fun. I can’t find the quote of the Vietnam soldier who expresses this and those other vets from the same conflict that shamefully admitted they felt the same thing.
>>64239791This summary completely glosses over how the US allowed their fighting forces to massively deteriorate following WW2 and doing stupid shit like sending M24s to get raped en masse by late war T-34s.
>>64241300This is just about the dumbest comment I’ve seen in a while and I don’t know where to start to help you. Learn more about climate and geography. Subtropical doesn’t mean “hot”. Subtropical is a location, not a summer temperature. South Korea is subtropical at 35 degrees N at Busan. But the famous bits of the fighting stories happened in the winter in the mountains of North Korea much closer to the cold continental Asian climate. It was also just colder than normal that winter. Look up where the Chosin Reservoir is
>>64257835They did what should have sent the US into its Golden Era by near completely de-militarizing. Unfortunately we stopped WW2 prematurely around Saxony.

>>64247158Dumbass we had to cross the 38th. That's like storming -Juno Beach and stopping at the border of Germany. Hitler wont stop his war efforts. It was Vietnam that was the unwinnable goal.

>famously durable aircraft capable of surviving tons of battle damage with high bomb capacity and 8 guns>high altitude escort fighter that can be taken out of action by a rifle caliber bullet to the radiator>deploy the latter in korea for ground attackWhy did Uncle Sam do this? Is he stupid?

You'll have your chance to prove yourselves again soon, yankee. This time Norks will show no mercy.

>>64244162Most Chinese think Americans are spoiled idiots rather than evil. They think the Japanese are evil.
>>64261225Wasn't the P-51 mostly used by allied nations like South Africa or Korea while the US relied on A-1 Skyraiders?
>>64261756Americans committed more war crimes during the Korean War than the Japanese did in decades of occupation.
>>64243602I am now demolalized.
>>64239992>>64240003>why die for danzig?>why die for Seoul??>why die for ukraine???>why die for the baltics/taiwan???? the more things change the more they stay the same. only real depressing part about it is that the demoralization propaganda is order of magnitude more effective today thanks to the porous and open western social media. Plenty of idiots buy into the slopaganda if enough bots spoon feed it to them for comparison back in the korea days all you could really do were pirate radio broadcasts, underground newspapers and leaflets thrown from planes/shells
>>64240192>In the 1967-1969 massacres, many Mongols and Koreans were tortured to death and raped by Han Red guard cadres on the basis of their ethnicity in the Inner Mongolia incident and massacres in Yanbian.>The CCP raped and massacred hundreds of thousands of ethnic Mongols in Inner Mongolia during the "Inner Mongolia incident" as well as killing and raping ethnic Koreans in Yanbian Prefecture.>They literally sent trains filled with Korean corpses to the North Korean side of the border.>Both of these massacres were during the 1960s and done on an ethnic basis. these were the tip of the iceberg. emperor mao became a fanboy of pol pot in his twilight years and wanted to perform a second cultural devolution in his empire modeled after cambodias "year zero". imagine 1/3 of everybody trapped in the insane emperors domain getting hammered to death because bullets are too expensive
>>64247236ukranians are telling vantiks how nigs and chechens are fucking their women. which is actually true in the rear kek

>>64257835Military spending was a bit of a nono after WW2 in every country that still held a vote, for some unknowable reason
>>64240663this hysteria about nooks=WW3 is stupid in itself. Even if they used some warheads there changs didn't have anything to throw back and no way vatniks were going to risk getting bombed themselves in muscovia for fucking korea.Hell even today changs could invade vladivostok and all the big scary bombs stay in their hangars. Because the same logic applies for far away colonies like amur-vladivostok/sakhalin/kurills/kamchatka etc. Since changs today can throw back everything thrown at them. You know, as soon as they pump fuel instead of water in the rocket tanks
>>64261860>comrade, the newly-arrived Choson troops have already successfully adapted to Russian military culture>but there is a nuance...
>>64261888combination of war fatigue and fifth column infiltration. its actually quite disturbing the extent of communist infiltration in the institutions that were active fifth columnists for the hostile foreign empires most famous is the manhattan program and lend lease to soviet union during ww2. but less known is the circumstances how brits handed over their state of the art jet engine for nothing to the SU which immediately copied it and stuffed it into the mig-15. Even Stalin couldn't believe the stupidity of it. Which then went on to kill americans in the korean war
>>64261225yes, but what about two P-51s smooshed together? More stronk, more engines, and more dakka.>>64261784The F-51 was used as a stopgap by the USAF during the first few years of the war until they could shit out enough jet fighters to counter the new MiG 15s. The USAF generally used older equipment and kept all the fancy toys in Europe or in the US Air Defence Command in case the USSR fucked around. This actually worked out well at first, since the Mustangs were efficient enough to fly to Korea and back from Japan. Pilots stationed in Japan would literally wake up with their families, drive to work and spend the day firebombing Chinsects, then fly home and be back in time for dinner.
>>64261800nice photoshop, but we all know what really happened.
