It was so bad that the Krauts and the Swedes kept blaming each other for the design, and no one wanted to claim credit for inventing the damn thing. (it was the Germans who made the first ones)
One weird feature of these things is that they use magazines which are externally identical to Swedish BAR magazines, but the KG-40 mags are single-position feed mags, rather than double feed like the BAR mags. Despite this the KG-40 magazines are fully backwards-compatible with Swedish 6.5mm BAR variants.

It's funny, the Swedish variants actually have some significant improvements over the original Browning Automatic Rifles.
Same goes for the Swedish versions of the m1917, m1919, and the M2.
They all have lots of seemingly minor improvements such as assemblies being redesigned to make maintenance easier, recoil buffers added to guns which previously lacked them, beefed up extraction and ejection mechanisms, improved feeding, etc.
All these small changes add up to make the guns substantially better than the original versions.
>>
>>64244188
For whatever reason I leafed through an article on this gun in a gun rag just today
>>
>>64244396
IIRC there was also some Swedish prototype beltfed BAR monstrosity proposed in both 8x63 and 6.5x55 that got rejected because the recoil in 8x63 was horrendous and the one in 6.5 wouldn't run reliably.
>>
>>64244512
>Swedish prototype beltfed BAR monstrosity
They got those to work reasonably reliably.
The issue was that they didn't modify the design enough.
They basically bodged a belt feed system into the magazine well of the BAR, and that meant that unloading the gun would dump 3-4 loose rounds on the ground. It was also hard to see if there were live rounds in the feed mechanism. Feeding in new belts was also difficult. The Swedish army found all these issues to be unacceptable, so they outsourced the project to FN in Belgium, and the result became the MAG-58. The original versions the Swedes adopted were chambered for 6.5mm, but those were phased out and replaced with 7.62NATO versions pretty quickly.

Pragmatic pistol design does not have to be as butt ugly as what S&W and springfield crank out

Even S&W's quick and dirty Glock knock-offs from the 80s looked better than their modern pistols look now.
They could keep the lines reasonably clean and didn't clutter every square mm with pointless bullshit texturing and edgy/pointy shit.

More like America had some revolvers and the 1911 and nothing thereafter
Even JMB's original drawings for the Hi-Power looked pretty terrible

Literally none of the people I've talked to who carried one of these things actually liked it. That says a lot.
Even semi-crappy guns tend to be liked by the soldiers who carry them.
So this thing has to be downright terrible to get as much hate as it does.

A friend of mine said the PKM pisses everyone off when they're shooting blanks because it keeps jamming while the KvKK chugs along happily
Then they get to the live fire stage and the roles are instantly reversed

If they made this in 10mm or .45 (that could handle super or SMC) it would be based af.

>>
>>64246611
If .45acp had the energy of real 10mm, that's .45 super and .450smc. With correct spring weights and/or compensator, they are interchangeable with .45acp as long as the gun can handle the extra pressure. Like an HK USP or mk23. Or my g21 that I built.

it is just really ugly to me and i hate it
same with pistol optics, regardless of their utility i just think they look dumb

kys it's a beaut
>>
>>64246657
With some fucking with the front roller and spring weight the bog should be able to handle .45 super, a steady diet of it would probably shorten its life though. Also just an fyi the USP is rated for .45 +p but not .45 super per HK

Neat, thanks. I'll have to look into this.
The USP can shoot Super, it's just a matter of how long it can before it kills itself.

It is but loading it to that is not recommended. I think 16rds is the sweet spot for feeding reliability.

Rare case where later revisions actually performed far worse than the original.

They are interchangable barrels, was fairly common to switch to the 6.5 barrel for big excercises in the 70s since there were still warehouses full of 6.5 ammo that needed to be used up.
