I'm American, so pretty much the same as always: the people who own the weapons and aerospace companies continue to siphon off taxpayer money.

WE LOVE FRIGATES

For the first time in decades they are actually giving the military a budget to buy something. We've been running around with 90s equipment since the soviet union collapsed since the politicians thought a military wouldn't be needed anymore so it got scaled down to a fraction of the size and was only allowed to buy cheap modernization packages and in RARE cases new equipment. Our national guard still has 70s equipment for fucks sake.

I wonder what Olaf Palme would think about all of this if he hadn't been murdered by Operation Gladio operatives.
>>

The man loved sucking commie cocks, and hated the military.
So he'd probably be fucking furious to see the Swedish military being rebuilt for a potential fight with russia after the military was practically shut down and scrapped in the 90s.

It's also still uncertain who killed him, the man had a talent for making enemies.
Might have been Gladio and the CIA, might have been Group-B, might have been the South Africans, Might have been Israel, might have been a small scale conspiracy in the Swedish army, or simply a lone disgruntled citizen... we'll probably never know for sure. There's no strong evidence pointing to anyone in particular.

These are all the same faction lol

We ordered bunch of shit from US and S.Korea, started building few factiories and that's about it. Kinda pathetic in almost 4 years if you ask me.

what the hell does this macro even mean

If that's how you're counting it, there wasn't a point in skipping South Africans.

Wrangling the Government to try and get the states first every warship and develop a jet air force and forcing the state to take Defence seriously for the first time in its history (should have bought H&W). Regional power by 2050

Oman (Ohh man)
Yemen (Yeah man)
Anus (it's shit and I hate it)

South Africa was always a wildcard nation. They were aligned, but also their own thing.

Sucks that your NG runs around in cold war equipment when you guys gave us good stuff in the 90s (it was all trashed by high command).

annoyingly not as good as i hoped. we should be using this shit to juice our weapons sales and yet we're basically just sitting on our ass instead. this is the perfect opportunity to be going out and getting some fucking sales and instead we're encouraging people to build their own shit rather than buying ours.

I'm American so more fighter jets and reverse engineered UFO technology. The usual.

Sweden has always been punching way above it's weight militarily as far back in history as you can look, even back in the 1700s they were soloing russia + denmark and winning. 1970s and 1990s were no different (although MBT development stalled, Strv 103 my beloved but it was shit for the 90s). The problem is that everything including the planned modernization of the entire military got cancelled once the soviet union (the only threat) suddenly didn't exist anymore meaning the military became a piggy bank to be emptied into other projects and was just kinda forgotten. Had it not been for russia invading ukraine in 2014 things would probably still not have improved to this day as it was a kick in the balls that europe was far from safe so conscription got added again along with some smaller budget increases, with 2022 just smenting that fear further leading into a military upscaling overdrive.

Also I know the Gripen isn't as good as an F-22 or F-35 and that the more extreme fanboys ruin the reputation of all of us, but you have to admit it's really fucking impressive for a country with only 10 million in population. Same with the CV90 which is undoubtly on of the best if not the best IFV on the market right now.

They got new uniforms, body armour new javelins some new NV and thermals and plate carriers, new radios and a few hundred DMR rifles as well as some ballistic computers for mortars. Ireland, aside from the unifoms its mainly better gear for people deploying on UN stuff or similar small actions. They also got four new four H145M helicopters with the weapons packages and a new Dassault Falcon 6X strategic transport aircraft and Airbus C295W aircraft for the Air Corps along with new radars they have also signed up for the EU bulk by scheme for ammo and drones and anti drone weapons. They are aiming for 2000 more people in uniform over the next couple of years. Its all just sensible practical stuff like new NBC gear and batches of kit being trialed by deployed troops, they are replacing 100 older APCs stuff like that the shortlist is Mowag Eagle and Piranha V, KNDS’ Serval and VBCI, and Boxer by Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland

It's taken 3 years but we finally realized that a country we border is in a full scale war. Army getting some new shit slowly but surely, more artillery, new brigade getting set up. New vests and uniforms getting rolled out, might be shit but hey we'll see.
Our pathetic navy is buying British frigates, they seem good, hope they don't crash one again. Probably can't get all of them crewed anyway.
Our main problem is people with critical experience and training keep leaving/retiring.
So cautiously optimistic I guess.

And Yemen is not actually pronounced as "yeah man"
>>
>>64249345
It's French, the u is pronounced like the German ü or Swetish/Danish/Norwegian/Finnish y, and the stress is most likely on last syllable.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I always viewed Sweden as an equal but opposite with Switzerland during the Cold War. With the Swiss, it was defense in depth in depth in depth, with heavy and semi mobile infantry, natural chokepoints, and an outright siege mentality of being able to literally bunker down while whatever war this was a part of was defeated in the field elsewhere.

Whereas the Swedes had a similar approach but a larger emphasis on a sort of NATO anti-material focus. Old battleship turrets sunken into hills above ports, minelayers and a sizeable green water defensive network. Lots and lots of S tanks and fighter planes. With the goal of either delaying or destroying things like the Soviet navy, bombers, and advancing mechanized infantry columns. But instead of bunkering down with the mountains, it was a much more mobile effort with the armor and air power preventing any substantial massed engagements (not hit and run/ambush necessarily as people think was the point of the S tank's design) with the goal of making whatever 2-day SMO to Stockholm take so long that NATO would be up and running and the Soviets would be behind schedule? And because not letting the Soviets achieve any surprise naval or airstrikes, they spent the cold war defending their airspace and the baltic sea extremely aggressively. As much as I like Swiss stuff, for a non NATO member (then), Sweden was an outright bro to the west and might be the single most confrontational country wrt Warsaw Pact shenanigans.

>picrel iirc there was a wonderful thread on here last year of a Swedish former conscript taking a tour of one of these sorts of battleship turrets that was turned into a self contained bunker not unlike a nuclear missile silo. Bunk beds, fairly large bathroom, all the equipment to operate the gun overlooking a harbor probably as a deterrent since it wasn't exactly hidden enough to use as an area of denial weapon to destroy dockyard logistics hubs.

>Massively overpay for a squadron of F-16s which are being delivered at a snails pace
>Buy 180 Strykers for a bunch of dollaridoos even though there are other vehicles that are better suited and cheaper
>Buy 1(one) IRIS-T SLM unit that will probably take a decade to actually arrive
It's going great, buying a mish mash of random equipment for the lols while most of the army is straight out of the 80s
