What is /k/'s opinion on the Saudi military? Ever had any interaction with them? Any good stories?
>>64253336not to be political, but looking at military history has convinced me that American style democracy with all of its "inefficiencies" is the only system that can ensure competent "bubble up" innovation both technically and doctrinally
>>64253336I'm reading book related atm. It's a fascinating study about the structural reasons for the poor performance of the gulf state militaries. It goes into detail, for example, on how these forces are not designed to fight foreign enemies, but to suppress domestic opposition; and how they are deliberately made slow and ineffective to coup-proof them. It's all very similar to russia. Without the cripling alcoholism though. Sadly few /k/omandos are high IQ enough to read actual academic studies. It's all just twitter screenshots on here.
>>64254525Reminder that the US MIC, for all it's corruption and profiteering, is one of the only major business interests in which technologies and innovations actually do trickle down to benefit the life of the average citizen.
>>64253336European here. These circular city-grid layouts look cool on the map (which is probably the only reason why saudis chose it - the miniature they were shown looked awesome), but are actually fucking confusing to navigate on street level. If you are not one of the locals, you need a GPS/compass to keep track where you were going. I guess it's just as confusing to navigate for the soldiers when they first arrive. I'll take standard rectangular grid every day. Makes it easy to navigate.
>>64253336I was at PSAB. 9/10 people in the Saudi military are pajeets or other mystery meat third world slave laborers, and were generally dumb as a bag of rocks. I watched one jeet airmen break into his car after he locked the keys inside by beating the window with his bare hands for a solid ten minutes until it broke, which caused his arm to get completely fucked up with blood and bruising. Another jeet tossed him a dirty, oily rag from the motor pool and he used it to bandage his hand and keep working.Ethnic Arabs had SNCO and officer positions and were slightly less retarded, but still had some pretty stupid ideas to try and make themselves useful on base to avoid being deployed to Yemen, which was considered to be a death sentence to them. They never fucked around with us and were very chill to work with, but the junior enlisted got shafted daily with their "good ideas"
>>64254607the Saudis also made some pretty kino propaganda videos about the war in Yemen. One of the guys who I made friends with showed me some Saudi cartoon that looked like a Family Guy ripoff that was pretty funny too.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4YGQ-d4Wz8
>>64254599Mhm, where's my civilian stealth bomber with bunker busters then asshole?

I have spend 15 years working with the Saudis selling them hardware and support and I can say with absolute confidence they are some of the biggest retards in existence. They manage be at the very same time both absolutely assured of their own superiority and yet COMPLETELY dependent of the west for 99% of their maintenance, engineering and system integration. They can do nothing themselves. I have a hundred stories I could tell you but one of the best is a time I was supposed to teach a bunch of officers (OF5 to OF7) about a new pump jet propulsion that has been installed on RSN corvettes. I was meant to get 32 people. 16 Showed up, about 10 left at lunch and never returned and those that did stay just talked on their phones the whole time. A little while later I was asked to sign off on training but didn't feel I could given the performance. At that point the person asking me nodded (another Saudi officer) offered me a bribe and informed me that if I didn't take it there would be "trouble". In the end my company sold them a massive total service maintenance contract for a huge profit.
When I was in Saudi Arabia I used to have little crumpled balls thrown at me when I went out. They contain the phone number of the person throwing it and it's an invitation for casual sex.It wasn't always women throwing them. That's my Saudi Arabian story.
>>64253336Great at HUMINT. Terrible at ground warfare and logistics. Air power is okay/good. Everything depends on the Commander.
>>64255045>Mhm, where's my civilian stealth bomber with bunker busters then GPS is a huge benefit overall.
>>64255218>It wasn't always women throwing them.that sounds a bit dangerous for saudi arabia.or did they tone down the "casually and gleefully kill you in the streets for being gay" thing most muslim middle eastern places got going on
>>64255404It's okay. Maybe they'll keep Anon around for a classic Saudi Mid-game show during the World Cup.
>>64253336army shipnavy okishair force was shit but they are traning with the greeks since 2023 so we will see in 5-6 years
>>64255404It's the classic "keep your degeneracy private" thing you see in most groups or societies that make a big deal about morality. The authorities are quite happy to look the other way so long as you're discreet about it and maintain proper decorum/tow the party line in public.
>>64253336https://ciaotest.cc.columbia.edu/journals/meria/v17i1/f_0029666_23981.pdf"This article is a personal account of U.S. Army Colonel Norvell DeAtkine’s experience in dealing with Arab militaries for over 40 years. Based on observation and study of Arab military establishments, he concludes little of significance has happened to change the deeply embedded character of the Arab military mindset. While there is some evidence that Arab soldiers historically performed better under European officers, there is no evidence that the Western tradition of command ethos outlived the departure of the officers. There is indeed a distinct Arab military tradition and attempts to recreate it in one’s image are not only fruitless, but often counter-productive."
>>64255404The reputation of the Saudi thot police has been a bit exaggerated in the west from my experience. Even before MBS' reforms Saudi was embracing globalhomo. Jeddah is pretty notorious as a hotbed of degeneracy. I was never able to visit but I was told by the RSAF guys that there were substantial gay and drug undergrounds there.
>>64254525A hundred years ago you would had been saying the same thing about the British. The French and Germans are also candidates but let's be real, the British were leagues above the rest, even if others also had their own fair share of innovation.
