Are you supposed to heat up your chow while in the field? Everyone I know just eats them cold. Nobody uses the heater.
>>64254198>Are you supposed to heat up your chow while in the field?Yes>Everyone I know just eats them coldLazy, short on time, or too hungry to give a fuck
Here's a pro tip relevant to the army as well as civilian lifeHot food feels more filling than cold food, so if you're trying to fill up under food constraints like rationing or waiting for payday to go to the store. don't just eat stuff as is, warm them up.
>>64254198It's good to have the option to heat them up when you want to and have the timeHot food provides a smidge more calories
>>64254217Why would heating a food up increase the calories? Its still the same amount in the pouch
Dont fucking heat the food up it makes it toxic. They wrap that shit in plastic and when you cook it you release teflon all over the food.
>>64254222Basic thermodynamicsYour body will expend heat energy regulating ie heating cold ingested food to your internal body temperatureIn contrast, hot food means your body expends fewer calories maintaining your internal body temperature. It can use some of the heat from that hot food you ate instead and burn less calories that way. Therefore the net gain to your body from hot food is more than cold foodIt's not going to matter in any other situation,, but this is similar to why you don't dunk a Sonic Slush into a hypothermia patient and give them warm liquids instead
>>64254239Damn i didn't think of this. But>minmaxing your caloric intake when the supply trucks couple klicks back has weeks worth of food
>>64254215>warm them up.He doesn't eat Poptarts raw. I have, in the past, fried them in butter. That is worth the effort, but fuck the toaster.
>>64254251Well yeah heh so as I said, it's probably not gonna matter that much unless you're hypothermic. But i guess that it's probably a big reason why people psychologically feel better eating hot food or drinking warm soup or having a brew.Either the additional heat does have significant physiological impact (i can't be arsed but a simple calorie difference calculation would answer this), or it might be psychological, or hormonal. You burn only 3 calories every 2 minutes just by existing. Body temperatures can impact the happy hormones (serotonin?) and the anxiety hormones (cortisol?). It's not impossible that this "minute" difference can have an immediate physiological and mood effect.
>>64254198Who the hell is everyone you know?I served and did one tour in Iraq. All of us warmed up our MRE main meals.
>>64254251If someone fucks up and your supply truck with the company's MREs gets burnt up then it matters.
>>64254198When I was in the field, I wouldn't care enough to heat it, the FRHs are too slow, and IMO don't heat reliably enough. On the rare occasion I wanted a hot MRE, I would just use my jet boil and boil it.
>>64254288Nobody in my unit warmed ours but we never deployed
>>64254269>fried them in butter
>>64254233if you are in the battlefield, a few more microplastics is the least of your concerns
>>64254498So REMFs are so lazy they can't even bother to heat up their own food?
>>64254198I came in this thread with the sole purpose of saying I hate the word chow. That is all.
>>64254269>"30 seconds in the toaster is too much effort, guys">advocates for frying them in butterHow fat and lethargic are you, genuinely?
put em under yo nuts or pits
>>64254239>acts as if he is smart>is stupidThe body also can regulate it's internal heat through vasodilatation/vasoconstriction, you dilating tranny/cockconstrictor. Cold food->lower internal temperature->vasoconstrictionHot food->higher internal temperature->vasodilatation+sweatingYou have this heat pool the body can juggle with, you testicle juggling clown.tl;dr you are partially correct, but also a tranny.
>>64255247It seems like something intended for animals or chattel.
>>64255238>REMFsThey don't eat MREs.
>>64254198Rock or something
>>64255360I'm going to need more examples than just rocks.
>>64254627>>64255326Yes, the problem is that he took the 10 million calorie heart attack wafers packed with obscure chemicals and 75% of their weight in corn sugar and fried them in a little healthy butter.
>>64254198I cannot overstate the difference in morale between eating your rations cold vs. hot. Assuming you have the opportunity, you have to be massively lazy or massively retarded to choose to eat them cold.
>>64255247Would you prefer ciao?
doing patrol base ops we usually had like 5 minutes to eat and you wanna be the first one done with your shit put away and ready to go too
