I recently acquired a pair of legit katanas for under $500.How effective would they be against home intruders? Try swinging your new swords around inside your home. Unless you have a studio for your home, you'll find that 28" (71.12cm) swords are a pain-in-the-ass to use in confined, indoor environments. For a strictly-indoor sword, you might be better off with a shortsword like a wakizashi or a Western sword designed for thrusting (gladius, rapier, etc) rather than slashing.It's better than nothing but I'd say katana are a poor choice of weapon for use inside the typical modern dwelling.

Also assuming you have the space to effectively swing it, which you probably won't in your house.
