I recently acquired a pair of legit katanas for under $500.
How effective would they be against home intruders? I didn't buy them for this reason, but I'm legit curious.
Firearms are not legal for civils in my country.
I'm willing to put in the work and practice up to 1 hour a day if they prove to be useful.
Thanks in advance /k/bros.

If Samurais had a second "katana", the Wakizashi, is for a reason, they're too long in general.

Pressing X to doubt here.

If you had gotten a saber or a machete, perhaps you would have been given real advice.

No you didn't.

>How effective would they be against home intruders?
You tell us. We have no idea what your skills are. Since you have to ask you are probably totally unskilled. You might learn fast or you might be useless but we don't have any information on which to guess that.

Hell, he'd have been given real advice if he was simply honest about what he bought.

legit doesnt have to mean actual japanese katana folded 100 times.
legit could be as simple as not a fucking wallhanger.
getting 2 not wallhangers for 500 is plausible.
>>

Last time I checked, running a sharp piece of metal through someone was still effective. Join a kendo club I guess (you won’t)

>legit doesnt have to mean actual japanese katana
Congrats, you redefined a word into meaninglessness.

Sound like you don't have a "legit" katana, and just some schlock someone offloaded onto you.
>>
>>64255915
Not as effective compared to something like a knife.
>>

If I had to use a sword for HD, I would use my gladius and scutum. Better for thrusting and close quarters.

>Would a long sharp piece of metal hurt someone badly if I hit them with it as hard as I could
No chance, people were updated to be immune to cutting a while back.

Try swinging your new swords around inside your home. Unless you have a studio for your home, you'll find that 28" (71.12cm) swords are a pain-in-the-ass to use in confined, indoor environments. For a strictly-indoor sword, you might be better off with a shortsword like a wakizashi or a Western sword designed for thrusting (gladius, rapier, etc) rather than slashing.
It's better than nothing but I'd say katana are a poor choice of weapon for use inside the typical modern dwelling.

>legit could be as simple as not a fucking wallhanger.
Wallhangers are by definition not legit. The reason is because they are so poorly constructed that they are just as likely to seriously injure their wielder as they are his opponent.

Long swords are fucking useless in any situation but a duel in the open. If you want to kill someone with that use it like a spear.

There are waza koryu kenjutsu teach that nobody will ever learn from doing kendo, friendo.

Katana = outdoor
Wakazashi = indoor
Tanto = soduko

A katana IS something like a knife, dumbass.

>Spear indoors
You disagree with literally everyone in history who had to actually fight indoors.
Short sword (Wakizashi in this case) dominates.

If they're actually legit which is unlikely at that price, they'd do fine if you have the basic knowledge and wherewithal to hold it straight and slice with the edge rather than hacking blindly like a third worlder with a machete. Also assuming you have the space to effectively swing it, which you probably won't in your house. Also assuming the criminal who by definition doesn't care about if he can have a gun or not doesn't have a gun. Also assuming your state wouldn't fuck your ass for using force against a criminal.
In a home defence scenario you'll honestly be better off with a kitchen knife. It'll be easier for you to use, probably more effective and not legally a proper "weapon" unless you're somewhere really cucked like bongistan.
