/SGG/? I just got this new mossy and wanted to show her off. It absolutely fucks. Has all the or3gun upgrades, so I put it through its paces with a 500 round mini-torture test of mixed target, bird, and buckshot ammunition. No failures at all. I would like to get a lower profile red dot however. I was looking at the vortex enclosed shotgun red dot, or I may just get an RMR mount.

I saw this thread and decided to blast my a300 ultimata patrol some before sunset. It runs great on anything, except for how it almost always locks to the rear on the second to last round. Hi brass, low brass, high brass preceding low brass, none of it makes a difference. If I slingshot the bolt handle it'll feed the last round. I'm not sure I'm upset as being down one round in capacity doesn't make much difference for this one, but of course I'd rather have it work properly. At least my Mossberg 500 still gets it done.
>>64260359Just shoot a bunch of sporting clays and see if that fixes it, I’ve had it happen randomly with my Auto 5 too but usually when the gun is dirty and or unlubed.

Anyone know what is happening to the 1301 Comp Pro? Everyone has been running out of stock for them in the past several months. You used to be able to get them for $1100 several months ago at EuroOptic, now the cheapest retailer is $1500 on gun.deals, and EuroOptic doesnt even list them as a product anymore.
Shot the m4 le h20 recently. Very nice. A little heavier than the m1 but better in every other way. Only complaint was the handguard gets hot around the gas piston if you put enough rounds down it 3inch 000 for the win.
just followed some anon tip from last thread and swapped my order on the utas 15 for a Beretta a300 outlander, hope they deliver it soon since the paperwork is fucking slow in my country

Both of those guns still have polymer trigger groups (the 590A1 doesnt but whatever), the only argument I ever see people make for why you should get a non-A1 mossberg variant is if you just really prefer the tang safety versus the cheapshit crossbolt safety on the 88. Otherwise the 88 is just as good of a gun.

>>642614441301
>>64262030>Why are the only options a fucking expensive Benelli or Spas, or a $100 turkshit special? It's a super niche market. Pump shotguns do what most shotgun buyers want from them for very cheap, and not many are willing to pay more for the marginal added value of semi auto. The buyers for these are either 3gun types willing to pay top dollar for the best performance and government agencies that have more money than sense. Most of the shotgun market has all their needs met by a $300 pump.
>>64262030>Why the fuck aren't pump/semi hybrids more popular? They sound great on paper when you're a noob. But there's really not much of a point to them in practice. Any semi that's not a piece of garbage will cycle anything from light target loads to magnum hunting stuff. The only time you need the pump functionality is if you're shooting something that's so weak it won't cycle a semi. That makes sense for cops that need to shoot less-lethal, tear gas, etc, but most people never shoot that stuff. Meanwhile the combo model gun is heavier and more complicated.>Isn't that the perfect shotgun? No. The perfect shotgun is a break-action double with ejectors. Any serious hunter or clay shooter will use that. There is good reason for this:-you have an *instantaneous* second shot, faster than even the fastest semi, and it can't jam, short-stroke, or misfeed. In fact even if one barrel has a major malfunction like a broken hammer spring the other barrel can still be fired.-you can have two different chokes in the gun at the same time, allowing you to choose which you use for which shot. Say you're out hunting. You could have a fairly wide choke in one barrel and a tight choke in the other. If you flush a bird close by you fire the wide barrel first giving you the higher chance of hitting. If you miss, you have the tight choke for your 2nd shot as the bird is flying away and is at greater distance. You can also mix ammo, i.e. have birdshot and a slug in your gun at the same time, and then you're set no matter what game you might flush out.-there is no bolt wasting space in the gun. The mechanism of a semi or pump takes up a lot of room in the gun. Getting rid of it improves balance and also means the gun can be shorter for the same barrel length, or you can have longer barrels for the same overall length of gun.>>But their capacity is shit!Well yeah, if you want to fight that's what a rifle or carbine is for.
>>642623393gun types rarely run combination models. Poorfags use pumps. anyone even halfway serious uses a semi. People serious about it use customized race models with ridiculously long mag tubes, usually something like an M2, 1301, etc.>and government agenciesYeah. LEO is the main buyer because they want to be able to shoot less-lethal.>Most of the shotgun market has all their needs met by a $300 pump.Yes. And the last thing a clay shooter or a serious hunter wants is a bunch of extra weight hanging off his gun.
>>64261419I wasn't even thinking of the possibility of a SBS until recently. I knew the tax was going to $0 for SBRs but I just kind of forgot that it would also include shotguns too. Now that I know this, I'm going to turn my 870 wingmaster into an SBS. I've always wanted one, but not enough to pay $200.
>>64261548They're only $800 now. Well worth it.
>>64262371>>Any semi that's not a piece of garbage will cycle anything from light target loads to magnum hunting stuff. Semi auto shotguns will always have cyclic issues. Doesn't matter who makes it. There are truths about shotguns that people don't seem to want to accept. An over built pump is the best choice when it comes to reliably. A shotgun for combat, SD/HD is a very limited tool. It is EXTREMELY effective but in a very limited range. Inside our outside its "golden zone" a shotgun is a very bad choice.
>>64262453>Semi auto shotguns will always have cyclic issuesI keep hearing this parroted, but it doesn't jive with my own experience. I've been shooting semis for over 20 years now. I've owned or shot: Auto 5, Rem 1100, Mossberg 930, Benelli M2, Cordoba, & M4 and A400. All of them would cycle cheapass 1oz target loads no problem. Admittedly the Auto 5 wouldn't if you put the friction rings in the magnum configuration, but I don't consider that a big issue. The Benellis would even cycle Fiocchi Exacta extra-low-recoil trainer loads. Anyway, I've fired many thousands of shells out of semi shotguns, I shot skeet and trap for years, not to mention sporting clays, hunting, and goofing around with my buddies. I've had a grand total of three malfunctions out of semi guns in all that time. Two of those were ammo (bad primers), the third was my attempt to fire a weak target load in the Auto 5 and forgot I had it set up magnum configuration.>An over built pump is the best choice when it comes to reliably.Pumps introduce the risk of short-stroking. I don't know which is the bigger risk but it's an interesting topic to talk about. I wonder if there's any good data on this. Probably not.
>>64262453>>64262480People argue about whether or not a semi will cycle "light loads", but is that even relevant in the context of a home defense discussion? Nobody is going to be loading their HD gun with trainer skeet loads, especially not people on this board. I don't think I've EVER heard anyone question the reliability of semis with full power ammo, unless we're talking turkshit and in that case cheapass guns having questionable reliability is not unique to shotguns.
Just put a cheap amazog dot on mein 590
>>64262480>>64262496Its interesting people claim "experience" then claimed they have never had cycling issues with a semi auto shotguns. Light loads completely aside, you WILL have cycling issues in every shotgun. Full stop. Over built pump is how that is overcome. >>yabut whataboutif I do this so it neverNo, just no. You do not control the unknown you simply can limit the chances and choose based on ability to overcome. Shotguns jam. Autoloaders more than any other. Shotguns are not a primary for any group, they are a task/position specific tool and because of that your immediate response of this group uses this so... is immediately irrelevant. Ive used shotguns in ponds, swamps, sand, and pretty much every environment one could imagine. They jam. Autos jam more and are a pain in the fucking ass when they do. Comparatively. >>im a competition sport shotgunPick a direction and fuck off in it poser
>>64262611Nta anon, but I agree with other anon. I used to be all “Pumps best, only shotgun that works 5ever” but in my experience, the past few years shooting clays and hunting, that pumps are some of the least reliable of all shotguns. Shitty range ammo will bring out the worst in any gun and now it’s a test a put a new shotgun through, which my Mossberg 500, Remington 870, and Benelli Supernova all failed, and Auto 5 and friend’s Maxus II passed with flying colors. The 870 even has upgraded bolt parts and extractors, never had an issue with 00 buck but as soon as I started shooting target loads out of it, all bets were off.
>>64262496Low recoil buckshot is the meta for self defense shotgun loads these days, full power shotgun loads are honestly kinda pointless. 00 buck doesn't need pissing hot loads to get plenty of penetration.>>64262611This runs counter to the advice of actual experts. People who train shotgun classes talk about their experiences with different guns on various forums. Quality semi-autos tend to have fewer problems than pump action shotguns. A lot of that is probably due to the steady downward slide in quality from Remington and Mossberg trying to keep the guns profitable at their lower price points but the easy button these days for a reliable shotgun is a 1301 or a300. If you keep both guns reasonably lubed and reasonably clean they just have the fewest issues. This is of course excluding total meme loads like handloaded kibbles and bits or whatever that just won't cycle an action.
>>64262611>WILL have cycling issues in every shotgunBreak-actions don't have cycling problems.Pump-actions have worse cycling problems than semis because they introduce the risk of short-stroking.>Autoloaders more than any other.Do you have data on this? Cite your sources.>>64262677Totally agreed bout low recoil buckshot. What people seem to miss is that while it is "low recoil" it is still significantly more powerful than a light target load. If most shotguns out there are cycling that just fine, the obvious conclusion is they will cycle defensive buckshot loads as well.
>>64261444Will the short barrel from the ultima patrol fit onto the standard version? Or is there some kind of special fitting?
Does anyone here own a Sauer SL5? I picked one up for cheap before they stopped exporting them and it seems very solid so far.My only qualm is that it can't take Benelli handguards from my research.
>>64262721>>Break-actions don't have cycling problemsThis right here is why you don't take advice from posers on 4 chan. Failure to eject, Failure to extract and hard opening are all very common problems that fall under cycling issues for break opens. Cycling issues is in the firearm use of the word any problem from loading to ejection. >>Experts say the opposite Expert sport shooters perhaps. Not anyone who is using a shotgun under the blanket tactical, and that is the subject here faggot.
>>64262480I had a Mossberg 930 that wouldn't work worth a damn after the first 200 rounds. No exaggeration, it was a miracle if it could get through a tube without a jam. And this wasn't even a base model, this was the JM pro. Lord knows what Jerry was doing to his guns to get them to work but that secret never got out. The 940 is allegedly better and I believe it, but semi-automatic shotguns generally struggled all the way into the 2010s. >>64261548I haven't shot the 1301 so I can't speak to that but I would generally say it's worth it at the price point. >>64263225Where is he wrong you retarded boomer? Literally any tactical shotgun worth its salt is using a gas operation now. Even cops use mossberg 940s and shit instead of their pump actions. Salt Lake city used the 930. Plenty of people field semis, and this isn’t even new. They did in the 1980s, too, starting with the Remington 11-87 Police.
>>64264006Why is he wrong? Watch this response disappear. They jam when limp wristed the benelli M1014, M4 most notably. Thats why the teams won't use them anymore.

Regardless, the 940 and 930 have the same gas system, so if you want the nickel plates gas system bits from a 940, you can just switch them out in your 930 and have effectively the same gun, can you not?
>>64264049Self-reply, just looked into it and there’sLimited parts compatibility between the 930 and 940, but the point still stands, look into the or3gun upgrades, they’re amazing.
Just bought my first shotgun, a Fabarm SAT 8, will try it for the first time next week. I still have to clean it up.My only concern is that maybe it wont cycle number 2 birdshot, despite being italian, is still a cheap semi auto shotgun. Bought some 00 and slugs too just in case.
>>64261553I have shot it all summer, probably 500 rounds of target and 100 buck/slugs. No issue so far. It's purpose built for 12 guage and I trust it more than some pistol optic.>>64262311Yes but it mounts fine on the handguard. I asked vortex if this is was OK and they said yes (mainly to cover my ass with warranty). Mounting it far forward gives a better field of view for skeet shooting. I also got inspiration from the drone guardian.
>>64264146does it still cowitness with the iron sights when its mounted on the handguard
>>64262030Because gas technology is much better than when the SPAS came out. Benelli ARGO and Beretta Blink gas systems will run up to light target loads no problem. The requirement to shoot specialty rounds like beanbags are not really required in modern combat shotguns as they are usually shot out of a dedicated pump shotgun with special markings due to legal requirements to avoid mixing lethal and LTL ammo.
>>64264158he already shifted the goalposts to "limpwristing" and then made his own thread to seethe about it
>>64264151If you mound on the handguard the irons cowitness in the lower 1/4 of the optic window. If you remove the rail and mount it directly to the receiver you get a true cowitness (centered on the optic). I personally don't like the cluttered sight picture though.
Picked up a Winchester SXP Extreme Defender today, and a Vortex Crossfire to put on it. Just waiting on my Buck Kicker full choke to get here and I should be gtg.
>>64260220Got an a300 ultima tactical with the holosun 507 comp. The 20moa circle is a lot of fun to shoot trap with. One issue I had was the charging handle would yeet itself out of the bolt carrier randomly. Lost 2 OEM charging handles and currently using a GGG one. That one has come out a few times even after replacing the detent and spring. I put a few thin strips of blue locktite on the handle insert, let it dry and then put in so it sticks inside. Its a bit hard to take out now, but it won't come out when firing.
>>64264162That wasn't me, I've never heard of limpwristing a shotgun. If that's a problem, it's a legitimate one. You never hear about limpwristing a rifle. No gun should have this issue. Either way, any failure could be met with switching to pump action. That makes it highly practical because you can shoot quickly without pumping, and highly reliable because you can pump it. I don't see why shitty shotguns like a Mossberg command premium prices yet don't even give us useful features like this. I ain't buying shit until they do.
Any love for the Vepr 12?I recently picked one up in this exact configuration for $1k. (Not my pic, just found one simular online)Im planning on putting a GK 03 muzzle break on mine because l heard it really helps tame the recoil of buckshot and makes it a flat shooter.
>>642605521301's have gotten their prices stupid inflated. At $1400-1600 they aren't a good buy - $1400 Gets you a Benelli M3, go up a few hundred and you can get a M4.Or for a few bucks more than an A300 you can get an M2.All are better options. The 1301 is feature rich sure, but the BLINK gas system is a fat Hog and extremely limits handguard options, and it's just not as good as the M4's dual piston. IMO it doesn't even feel as good as the inertia driven benellis either. The 1301 is over rated.
>>64262030Just get an M3, you can occasionally find them for $1300, you will not be disappointed- quite a bit lighter than the M4 and it smokes the 1301

It wasn't terribly expensive either, I've been happy with it so far, no FTE/FTF so far. I got it to have something to defend against drones with, i think it's wise to grab a shotgun these days. Be sure to clean it throughly if it hasnt been so far, cosmoline in the gas tube seems to cause a lot of problems for people. Do that and feed it high brass, high fps stuff and you should be fine. >>64267902>>64267925you should absolutely not have a flashlight there on your gun. 90% of your light throw will be fucked. Use a $5 barrel clamp from amazon, and ensure that the front of the light goes ahead of the barrel so there is no shadow. That's a very very silly spot to put a flashlight. the point of your picatinny rail there is for optic mounting should you so choose. What you're saying is basically "Why would I eat soup with a spoon if this knife I've been using works perfectly well?" The answer is that it DOESN'T work perfectly well.
>>64269091>90% of your light throw will be fucked. As a oldfag who remembers how shit flashlights used to be it doesn't matter. Even if you blocked out 70% of the light on a modern light it would be brighter than what they were using in the 2000s. Oh no shadows meh. You can still see.
>>64269114>it used to be worse, so it doesn't need to be better nowthat's a shit argument. Also he should be fucking with his line of sight that way for aiming.
>>64267902>>64267610This is not a very used shotgun. Put more rounds through it under all conditions and you'll see anons are just trying to help with the light advice.
I am unimpressed by the quality control on my 1301 but it has run great so far. The top rail screw came stripped from the factory and the original mesa stock had the same issues everyone else had with it so it had to be replaced with a magpul stock. Im only have like 150-200 slugs through it so far but it groups well even at 100 yards with them. I need to get some shot through it but i usually just put shot through my ithaca. I dont know what to do for a replacement screw for the top rail. It is holding fine but it triggers my autism. It seems like a proprietary length and shoulder angle screw so im afraid my option is to buy an entire replacement rail that comes with 2 screws for $50. The reptilia acro mount used the screws that came with the gun and i used loctite and the steel wool trick to even get the screw out and back in. I didnt notice it came stripped until i went to replace the rail
>>64267610That flashlight placement begs the question, do you smoke meth by chance?
>>64264975Ive shot M4's quite a bit but I have an M3 and a Supernova and one of the better turkshit M4 clones (needed Benelli parts but runs alright - still turkshit and doesnt count)My only complaint with the M4 is weight
>>64269486Damn, 100 yards with slugs? What the size? The best I've gotten is minute of Volkswagen beetle at 100
>>64269519I really want an M3 tbqh, more than I want an M4
>>64269486Have you tried contacting the manufacturer?
>>64267796Buy it you won't regret, its criminally underrated and extremely fun to shoot esp with all the noise from these over priced under performing nu-guns like 1301, A300 and the 930
>>64269530Off a bench i was putting them on a inside a paper plate. My little brothers 1301 can do it too. >>64269538Yeah, berettas customer service will make you want to commit suicide. Id rather deal with AT&T or spectrum. I feel like if your not Italian or the us military you are lower than shit to them.
>>64269534Buy the M3. It's almost 2lbs lighter than the M4 and switching from pump to semi is easy. The M2 has even greater weight savings. It cycles target and lighter loads much better than you would think and you can always flip it to pump for boutique stuff
>>64260220no you didnt
>>64269538>>64269557Basically i got a 6 hour run around of constantly being put on hold and transferred before basically being told unless the gun was unfired and new in box i cant prove that it came stripped so go fuck myself. I offered to buy a screw from them and pay for shipping and they said they wont ship to america even though i was dealing with beretta usa. Not that they give a fuck but i wont be buying anymore berettas for the rest of my life. I always wanted a 92 and was interested in their rifles but i guess only 1 of my currently 20 guns will ever be a beretta. Ive heard of other people having the same screw being stripped from the factory too. If i didnt like this gun so much id sell it due to how poor of a taste this experience left in my moutb
>>64261419How do you like the surefire light on the 870? Been eyeballing those.
>>64269603Love it, get an LED head and it's the best solution I've found. I actually have five of the damn things and I don't know where they came from.
>>64269621Thanks anon!
>>64269641If you can't find a good deal on one post in a shotgun thread and I'll sell you one of mine that doesn't have a bezel. You can pick up an entire LED head aftermarket from a couple companies.
>>64269587Benellis customer service has been impeccable IMHO, mind you I never had any major issues just questions and quotes for accessories/purchases.With Beretta USA (their parent) its a much bigger operation and they don't care if you have a $400 cheetah/tomcat or a $1500 13-0-noneMy only peeve is they won't direct sell short SBS barrels for the Supernova, M3 and M4 - they told me which (LEO) distributors they sell the to, but I've only ever seen the M4 SBS barrels.Fucking Canadians can just buy all 3 with short barrels ready togo
>>64269802*My pet peeve with Benelli
>>64269802Yeah it sucks. I could buy the part i need in canada or europe but i guess here in america i gotta go fuck myself. Im sure my business is meaningless to them but i am the dude my friends go to on gun advice and now i just tell people my beretta experience and why i dont fuck with them when asked. Like i said i always lusted for a 92 but this experience really soured them. The sad thing too is i feel like i fucked up now, my friend had an a300 patrol before i got a 1301 and while mine shoots slightly tighter groups with slugs his didnt have any qc issues like i did. What the fuck did i pay more for?
Ghost sights or red dot?
>>64270714both
>>64270714Gold bead, it’s all you need.
>>64269802>>64270280I've only had one experience with Beretta's customer service, but it was fine. I ordered an extended mag tube spring from their online store and the one I received was shorter than the OEM spring. I sent them an email, they asked for a photo, I sent one, they replied that it was definitely the wrong length and refunded me.It looks like that rail screw is just a 8-32 flat head machine screw. You can get them for $0.10/each from boltdepot.com/Machine_screws_Star_drive_flat_head_Stainless_steel_18-8_8-32. Depending on the how the rail is countersunk, you might need to grind the edge off the head to match the profile of the OEM screw, but that's like 20 seconds of work if you know someone who has a bench grinder. Or there's a guy on ebay selling OEM ones for $14 each.
>>64270887I cant find the ebay offering, link or what did you search?
>>64270777Co-witnessed? >>64270793This is the tactical shotgun thread grandpa
>>64270887>>64270934Also not to be tism but its def not a flathead, pic rel, someone on reddit who got theirs shipped with the same screw fucked from the factory
>>64270937yeah though im wondering if a see through riser is viable where your irons are unobstructed by the red dot in case it gets water on it or cracks in a shtf scenario
>>64270937You’re over complicating things and wondering why you have problems.>>64271084Wouldn’t be a problem with a bead.
>>64270714Ghost sights are unironically to line up and keep on target under 12ga recoil than a dot where you have a larger window of error when aligning your head/eye. Dots on shotguns have one use case: turkey hunting. Anyone doing anything else with them is a dumbass and should be given no credibility on the topic of shotguns
>>64271222unironically easier*
>>64271222what if I want to use nods
>>64271280Then, use them?
>>64270943Looks like a flat head to me. Maybe oval. From pics online it looks like the head angle may be around 60º, which might be a little hard to find. It would be easy to re-drill the countersink on the rail to a more common angle though.Or you could buy the insanely overpriced one on ebay: ebay.com/itm/126831088255
>>64269363Thank you, I will. It is indeed a very new gun. Less than 100 rounds, but all during the day.
Do you guys think that there'll ever be a market for shotguns like the Beretta A300 UP but in 20 gauge?
Got the opportunity to pick up a 1301 comp or a m3 both for around the same price (£900) what would you guys recommend?I'm want it for target shooting and comps, so shooting slugs if that makes a difference. Thanks for any input.
>>64271619No, not because it would be a bad gun - it would be a very good gun - but because nobody would buy it out of insecurity about being bullied for owning a 20ga
>>642722141301 since the aftermarket is supporting it right now, so finding new accessories out of italy shouldnt be too hard.
>>64272218What a shame, I like 20 gauge.
DSF 500/590 vs TL-Racker for a Shockwave? Pros/Cons for each? Also, how much of a meme are laser saddles?
>>64271286but id need the dot in that case
>>64272381some kind of barrel clamp with a picatinny mount would work better
>>64272381I have no experience with either but i think they look cool. That being said, i like tlr-1s alot but i have only had bad luck with streamlights on long guns. For function over form i think >>64273636 is right
>>64272214I own a 1301 and my friend has a m3 and i think the m3 is the better gun. Both are pretty nice but look over the 1301 before buy it if you can, check the screws and the lifter.
If SBS laws weren't a thing, what would be the ideal length for "tactical" shotguns? 14.5? Also the ideal sighting system? Bead, ghost rings, or dot?
For my next, Beretta or some other semi-auto? I don't own any Berettas yet because they're expensive
>>64273743I think ghost rings are the worst. I kinda like the a300up sights but its hard to beat a bead for shot. For all lighting conditions and shooting under nv its hard to beat a dot.
