Because it wasn't seen as a good military engine they thought it'd be fine to sell to folks as an engine for airliners, particularly as Britain was broke as fuck from paying the US to save the free world.What they weren't expecting was:1. The Soviets being so shit at engine development that the Nene constituted a huge leap for them militarily2.
