I know you know the movie, it's one of my all time favorites and I never knew, since I don't own a gun (Europe), was this part of the movie, a total larp, 75% larp, half-larp or legit? Not just the gun itself, but also the whole "mercury" bullet, is that a thing?
Mercury bullets were a thing, not an effective thing but they did exist. The gun itself is plausible and people have made functional replicas.
>>64270873For real? Fuck...that's nuts! So someone involved in that movie had to be fully into high level gun stuff to advise such contraption. This was the only part of that movie that I took as "meh ok it's a movie", I thought it was a bit funny, like a umbrella handle with a scope.Fascinating. I don't want to google more, for obvious kosher reasons, but damn I need to get up to speed with that world.
>>64270883mechanically speaking, a gun isn't nearly as complecated as some people might think.
>>64270860>I don't own a gun (Europe)not an excuse
>>64270897What makes this pic European? I do know some of those guns thanks to pubg! M416 on top, M16 down.....the rest seems boomery.
>>64270891I get what you mean but there's a difference from making a contraption that strikes the bullet and sends it down the barrel, and this Genoa Special :D
>>64270932That's what true craftsmanship can accomplish. He did not go to some backjard blacksmith. Also, if you like that movie, you might also like>the americanhttps://www.imdb.com/title/tt1440728/It has a kind of similar tone and slow pacing to it. I did enjoy it.
>>64270955Ehhh I saw that movie. But Clooney is a bozo he didn't sell me the role, not convincing. Since I found out Jackal, I've been on a prowl for a similar movie....but nothing similar was found yet
>>64270965What are you looking for?Story, tone, decade it was made, the somewhat "european" style?
>>64270983I am picky about the movies, it has to start off good, it can't be pretentious or bombastic, it should slide me into the story and there can't be a point during the movie where it loses the plot...for example, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was amazing. Of course Le Cercle Rouge. Heat. That kind of style.
>>64270883>had to be fully into high level gun stuffNo, they just had to be more well educated than the average person.Go read up about cane guns, they were very common in the 19th century.>>64270932Anon, it's an off-the-shelf sporting rifle with all the unnecessary stuff cut off of it.
>>64271005>Anon, it's an off-the-shelf sporting rifle with all the unnecessary stuff cut off of it.But in the recent event in Utah they talked about taking the gun apart for transport etc and they mentioned it's not possible to screw the barrel or whatever without a vice....so how is this gun do it?
>>64270998>Tinker Tailor Soldier SpyMovie or Miniseries?
>>64270897Is that a Margolin?
>>64271040Movie
>>64270998I'll try my best. Here are some movies you might like. Some are well and some are lesser known. It might seem like this list is all over the place. I am just going by animal instinct. Can't really describe why I put them together in one list. But it kinda "feels" right:>No Country for Old Men - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0477348/>Thief - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083190/>Les rivières pourpres - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0228786/>Ronin - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0122690/>The Bank Job - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200465/>The Conversation - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071360/>Killing Zoe - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110265/>A History of Violence - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0399146/>The Way of the Gun - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0202677/>The Boondock Saints - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0144117
>>64270998>HeatI just skip through all the woman stuff.
>>64271054No Country - love the movie aesthetically, the plot is dumb but visuals are magical to me, especially the first part. Just beautiful footage, legendary cinematographer.Thief - amazing movie, that one and Eddie Coyle are my favorite 70s movies.Ronin and Conversation is something I vaguely remember watching, the rest I'll have to check out, thanks anon
>>64270883Or they just made up some random bullshit and fans did the rest.
>>64271063So the gun is fake, the concept?
>>64271025There are special rifles designed so that the barrel can easily be removed. These are called "takedown" rifles. The shooter in Utah didn't have that kind of rifle but they absolutely are a thing.
>>64271059So the whole movie except for two scenes?
>>64271054>A History of ViolenceJust checked imdb, oh I remember this one, I watched this. The twist!! Good movie, for real.
>>64271075idk I don't remember how much of the movie was woman stuff because I skipped those parts
>>64270883They only start tracking your searches and shit if you hit a few rare buzzwords or start searching for actual crime related stuff (best vantage points for assassinations, how to build IED, eure is the most effective place to plant a bomb for an attack, etc.). Simply searching for gun tech doesn't hit an alert in Pegasus or Fog. A lot of it has to be connected to other searches like Muslim shit or known watch list orgs.>t. former fed
>>64270883>I don't want to google more, for obvious kosher reasonsFaggotry of the highest level
>>64271025factory detachable barrels are a thing, and in fact used to be quite common, especially in europe, even more so back in the 70s when that book was written and the 60s when it was set
>>64270921the fact that i own those guns and took the picture finland, the country where i live>>64271046sure is
>>64270921Either you are the biggest retard on the entire board or you're baiting>>64270897>>64272712nice guns anon
>>64270860>>64270883Movie armorers tend to be huge gun nerds. Many of them LIVE for whackjob builds, and when one is successful it frequently gets re-used and even re-built for years. I recommend checking out imfdb.org and poking through some of the "custom" pages.https://www.imfdb.org/wiki/The_Day_of_the_Jackal#Custom-Made_Sniper_Rifle for the gun in question. You can build something very similar extremely cheaply - barrels are everywhere, and while .22 magnum isn't quite as forgiving as .22LR it's still pretty easy to contain. The cuts and threading on the barrel are something any working machinist could pull off in under an hour, that cut specifically is just heavily-regulated in the States so it's easier to make the whole damn barrel come off instead. A Chiappa Little Badger is kind of a modern successor, and I've seen several people do skeletonized Henry AR-7 rifles in addition to home builds. One guy on /k/ has made at least two Jackal-inspired tube carbines (one with a composite barrel), and I've seen two others in the flesh. I made something pretty close to picrel as a teenagerhttps://www.chiappafirearms.com/product/500.110/little-badger-folding-rifle-blued-22wmr-16-5-bbl#>ammoExplosive rounds exist. .22 Magnum is not the caliber for that.>>64270965F/X is kinda neat, it's about a special effects man who winds up getting involved in a political hit. >>64271025You can pull the barreled action out of most rifle stocks fairly easily. It just fucks up your zero and usually requires additional disassembly (in the case of that Mauser, it involves emptying the magazine, among other things). Removing the barrel itself from the action requires a lot more work. Modifying the stripped action and barrel to shoot accurately while still letting you take it apart, then put it together consistently and quickly while holding zero is something else entirely. Takedown rifles that do remove just the barrel have to be specifically built for it or extensively modifed.
