Why is it trendy now to hate picatinnys? Is this some kind of subversive hipster thing or do they have genuine design flaws?
>>
>>64279680
Picatinny weighs weight and mlok doesn't
>>
>>64279680
>hipster thing
yeah.
it is heavier and MLOK makes more since most of the time, but there is nothing wrong with picatinny.
>>
what are you gonna put on those side rails?

answer: nothing
>>
>>64279702
4 lasers
>>
>>64279680
I don't hate pic rails, but there are legitimate grievances and criticisms to them.

>>64279693
Anon with the first good point, is that it weighs a lot. Sure it gives you a lot of real estate, but as >>64279702 points out, you aren't oper8tor enough to use it all, and it's just a fuck load of weight for nothing.

Additionally, all that mass also acts like a big heat absorber. Sure, it may act as a heat sink, but I would prefer a lighter and more maneuverable weapon that cools faster. I've had platforms that have had both pic rails and mlok, and I vastly prefer the mlok for aesthetics, weight savings, and the attachments are rock solid for when I do want to bolt stuff to my platforms.

>tl;dr mlok lighter and has a cleaner look
>>
>>64279680
Picatinny is objectively more aesthetic. It goes hard as fuck.
But after owning various AR's over the years, it's heavy as shit and feels like a cheese grater on your hands after so long. It is easier to use attachments on, though.

Most of the people on /arg/ are unironic crossovers from reddit.
They are almost all dyel basedboys and handlets with <7.3" or smaller wrist circumfrences and the hand strength of a newborn.
Mlok is a smaller, lighter handguard for their delicate frames.
>>
>>64279759
>you aren't oper8tor enough to use it all
thats not the point big dawg, lotsa different sized people that shoot guns so it's nice being able to put a certain attachment in a variety of slots instead of one single spot.
also
>RIS II weighs a fuckload more than RIS III
stinks like noguns in here go to an lgs and handle one of those DD mlok rifles they are thicc af fr fr on god
>>
I prefer pic but I get the appeal of mlok. Thin and light feel very comfy
>>
>>64279680
Clinging to quad rails when mlok is good enough with less weight feels like a weird identity thing. Like being proud of about driving stick or being a vegan. Or those fags that main cold war battle rifles.
>>
>>64279874
>Like being proud of about driving stick
You are unironically a lesser man if you cannot drive a manual transmission.
>>
I miss keymod :(
>>
>>64279846

One of my pistol setups costs more than an entire DD4 RIS II, don't invoke noguns like you're superior
>>
>>64279897
Dickmod was super tacky but really charming. It’s kinda like a boomer mlok
>>
>>64279680
I think you've got it the other way around, it's the trendy/hipster thing to say MLOK is gay because its the industry standard and we should return to quad rails
>>
>>64279901
>One of my pistol setups costs more than an entire DD4 RIS II
Guns are pretty inexpensive as far as hobbies go and DD is not an expensive brand to begin with, so idk what kind of flex this is supposed to be.
>>
>>64279925
>Guns are pretty inexpensive as far as hobbies go
Low quality bait, anon. Quality guns can be incredibly expensive, and getting in to NFA stuff is worse
>>
>>64279949
>Quality guns can be incredibly expensive
The majority of guns, even semi/full custom, tops out around <$10k or less.
That's cheap compared to things like cars or watches.
>NFA stuff is worse
Full auto stuff gets pretty expensive, I'll give you that one.
>>
>>64279949
You can spend insane amounts of money on any hobby, anon. Look at cars or aquariums.
>>
>>64279988

>tfw my barrett cost more than my rolex
>>
>>64279988
Tacticool guns are poorfag shit. A lot of guys buy $50-100k doubles just to go shoot in front of other rich people 2-3 times a year. Americans are pretty poorfag all things considered.
>>
>>64280013
Rolex is a poorfag mall shitter brand.

Dickmod bros we are back
>>
>>64280114
I own a gshock which is objectively superior. Rolexs aren't out of my reach but a Breguet Marine Alarm in 18k is. I don't buy things unless they're exactly what I want. Never been disappointed that way.

>>64280122
>Tudor
Shitter. I'd get a Vostok or Seagull if forced to buy a mechanical watch today.
>>
>>64280122
Considering we now know Rolex has been sourcing cases, bracelets, and dial parts from Shenzhen before finishing and assembling back in Switzerland with their in-house movement, Tudor is unironically starting to look closer and closer to Rolex.

Not that Rolex was top dog anyways, the Omega 8800/8900 movement has long been known to be a more durable movement than the Sub's, with better anti-magnetism, and the master chronometer cert is more comprehensive than the superlative.
Then of course you have the BP FF which pretty much trumps either all around.
>>
>>64280144
>Rolexs aren't out of my reach but a Breguet Marine Alarm in 18k is.
You don't own a single watch over $1k so it's a pretty irrelevant talking point anyways.

>>
>>64280153

>>
>>64280144
I had to look up what the Marine Alarm looked like. Respectfully, it's definitely not my taste, but I can recognize its aesthetic value, so I hope you can get one at some point

But also I have a $12 casio watch that tells the time the same as my submariner. Comparing a Gshock to a a mech watch is like telling me a toyota corolla is a better car than a GT3RS because of fuel economy

Your phone already keeps perfect time.
Smartwatches exist.
Mechanical watches have been obsolete since the quartz revolution decades ago. Wristwatches only have value now as conspicuously consumed items, so men will think you’re hot shit and girls will have sex with you. obviously you’re not buying this watch for it’s utility as a timekeeping device. You’re buying pussy. So with that said, it’s a brainlet move to splurge on something that isn’t immediately recognizeable to everyone as “a pile of money lit on fire”. Rolexes cost about the same, but are unmistakeable and universally recognized as being expensive, so get one of those instead.

And if on the off chance you are the one in a million who is a true connoisseur of high horology, shouldn’t you buy Swiss? Since when do Germans make watches?
>>
>>64280303
>so men will think you’re hot shit and girls will have sex with you.

>so get one of those instead.

>shouldn’t you buy Swiss? Since when do Germans make watches?
On a serious note, this is a painfully uneducated take as kraut watches are arguably higher quality in many regards and companies like A Lange are probably one of the most respected watch makers in the world.
Not pulling out a mortgage for one at this time though.

Who cares? Mechanical watches are cool. Machines are cool. If you don't appreciate an intricate mechanical device that accomplishes a useful task, you are not a man.
>Wristwatches only have value now as conspicuously consumed items
The wristwatch is one of 3 acceptable pieces of jewelry for a man, the other two being a crucifix necklace and a wedding ring (sometimes a signet ring is acceptable too, depending on your social affiliations). Also you can use them to tell the time without looking at your phone all the goddamn time
>so men will think you’re hot shit and girls will have sex with you

I…. did not know A. Lange was German. I kinda just assumed 99% of the world’s mechanical watches are manufactured in Switzerland.

Own any royal oaks? I find their anesthetic to be top tier and timeless. Designed in an afternoon but a total stroke of artistic genius.

>>64280406
>point 1:
But you already own a phone regardless.
>point 2:
Irrelevant if the function of the watch is to keep time. The point of bringing up smartwatches is to show that there are far cheaper watches with 1000x the capability. It’s like buying a flip phone post-2007
>point 3:
I agree, they are cool. And so are lambos. But are they $600,000 cool? Only pussy and the respect of men is that cool.
>point 4:
The whole point of jewelry (for men) is to advertise wealth. As for women, did you know that nobody’s ever really made a serious academic inquiry into why it is that all women of all races and cultures and nationalities love to adorn themselves with fancy shit and shiny rocks (to my knowledge)? I found some girl blogs postulating dumb shit like astrology or some hypothetical magical 5th force of nature that exists within the girls that compels them to accessorize in that manner. But no explanation using Darwinian language. Personally, going purely off intuition and my very low (accurate) opinion of women, I’d say the purpose is to advertise the present bid for their eggs and preemptively keep away lesser men who can not meet or exceed the bid.
>point 5:
No that’s everyone. It’s more like a libido-possessor mindset. Denying it is denying what you are.
>point 6:
Says logic. If your interest is purely to acquire a timekeeping device for its timekeeping utility, a mechanical watch (in 2025) is the last thing you’d consider. You’d either be fine with your phone, or consider a smartwatch. If you don’t need the adds functionality, then some battery-powered digital watch.
>>
>>64280456
>I kinda just assumed 99% of the world’s mechanical watches are manufactured in Switzerland.
France is also known for high end watches.
>>
>>64280456

No, the most expensive watch I own is a 42.30 fifty fathoms.
AP is a great but oversaturated brand and I would look more at Vacheron or A Lange if I was going to spend that much money, at least that's my taste.
>The whole point of jewelry (for men) is to advertise wealth.
I just think they're neat, and for the line of work I am in (corporate insurance sales) advertising wealth would be a joke as I am regularly on the low end in the room even wearing a Rolley, BP, or Omega.

>>
>>64280703
That’s cause it takes time for technology from the first world to trickle into subsaharan africa and random villages in Eastern Europe. People in America can’t drive stick because we don’t need to drive stick. That’s the point of technology - to do shit for you so you no longer have to do shit. “Why do hard things when you can just do easy things?” - the philosophy behind all invention.

>>64280703
Exactly. If you can't drive stick then you're less capable than 70% of the people in the world including grandmas in central asia and subsaharan africa, which makes you a lesser man. There's a baseline of competence that you never reached.
>>

Grandmas do tend to drive automatics though. Disabled people, retirees, etc.

>>
>>64280713
>People in America can’t drive stick because we don’t need to drive stick.
People in America can't drive stick because they're lazy and have shit taste. The rest of the world has had access to automatic transmissions for more or less the same period as America, but just doesn't like them as much. America is great at many things, but almost exclusively makes awful, joyless and soulless cars.
>>
>>64280952
>more or less the same period as America
i.e. slightly longer.
>>
>>64280954
No, I think America was mass producing them before anyone else (ie WWII, where others started making them postwar, which is mostly incosequential since industrial capacity during the war wasn't making many consumer cars).
>>
>>64280967
China was mass producing smartphones before anyone else, doesn't mean they had them first.
Early automatics were just shit, but shit is adequate for a straight flat American road and a land boat.
>>
>>64280982
>adequate for a straight flat American road and a land boat
It's not though. It's adequate if and only if you find no thrill or joy in driving and see the whole and every part of it as a chore from which technology ought relieve you. Americans hate driving, but hate walking or using public transport even more, so they produce, buy and drive joyless shitboxes and pioneered adoption of mushy automatic transmissions.
>>
>>64279680
>weighs a lot
>bulky
>catches on shit
>uncomfortable to hold
>doesn't allow ventilation (which in turn requires holes in the rest of the handguard, which requires stiffening geometry, which increases weight further)
It's just annoying. Annoying in every way. You ever had a bowl that's just an annoying shape, and when you put it in the dishwasher it does something annoying like sit a funny way or take up too much space? Or a mug with a handle that loosely fits [n] fingers, but doesn't fit [n+1]?

It's just one of those annoying objects which humans would be better without.

Drive whatever you want but I think everyone should be made to learn in a stick shift first because it forces you to have some basic understanding of the car and how gear ratios work.
I'm a truck driver and nearly every day I get stuck behind dumb tardcunts towing heavy trailers, rapidly decelerating after hitting an incline because their automatic slushbox is panicking and trying to perform 4 gear changes. If these people learned stick they'd know to tell the automatic to select a lower gear BEFORE hitting that hill.
The same goes for all the future accident statistics who ride the brakes down a long hill instead of selecting a lower gear and engine braking.

Because we don't care, for most of the rest of the world a car is an option because you have something else that can get you there. We stick to autos because that's the only way you're getting anywhere. And the vast majority of destinations are going to be boring, nobody's going joyriding after a week of driving from point a to b unless you're 16 and just got your license

Driving stick isn't the issue. It's acting like it makes you some special snowflake that's the problem, especially when being manual is the only interesting thing about your car that's otherwise a completely generic econo shitbox, something I've noticed is quite common with people who make a big deal about driving a stick - you never see that attitude from actual sports car guys, it's always the dude with a stock manual Civic DX.

I exclusively owned manual sports/performance cars for 18 years and the fact that they were stick was just a fact of life, not some thing to get on a high horse about.

NTA. It wouldn’t matter if he had a lambo, he’s still right, but yeah its probably a sour grapes thing since he is still just the same simple sex-driven animal as the rest of us.

>>64281253
>you’re wasting money on [pussy]

The chief utility of money right after subsistence is purchasing women. Buying fancy shit is an indirect version of explicit prostitution that gives both sides plausible deniability as to the transactional nature of the relationship. At the end of the day, not counting gigachads, all women are prostitutes and all men pay for sex. (As for gigachads, they pay with quality sperm, as the girls do have to get something out of it). So it’s the very opposite of a “waste of money”. It is in fact the best, most game theory optimal use of money.

> Caring about what others think of you is by and far the most effeminate thing a man can do

Except women are in a special category of “people” - they’re the ones you mate with, so if you possess a libido, it does behoove you to concern yourself with what they think. You are not better than this or anyone else that does things for pussy. You are LARPing as someone who is so enlightened that he has overcome and overridden his mating instinct. You have not and you never will.

All other points are correct. The entire luxury *anything* industry simply sells receipts that say “I lit money on fire, my kids will eat, my sons will fuck, have sex with me”. Everyone working in it is a pimp. It’s a gangster life desu, I should have been a jeweler. Dangle shiny rocks and trinkets in front of men and tell them they’ll have sex if they pay me $10,000 for this rock..

We’re like a million times more chimpy that the guy with the lowest opinion of mankind thinks.
>>
>>64281664
>it’s dumb to buy fancy watches because you’ve calculated incorrectly that they will yield opinions of high status and following that, pussy.

So in other words the guy should calculate better and buy something with a higher ROI.
>>
>>64282707
>Driving stick isn't the issue. It's acting like it makes you some special snowflake that's the problem,
This is true. HOWEVER, 90% of the time you see this phrase repeated, it's by a literal retard that can't even figure out how to drive a car that doesn't drive itself. There is nothing special about being able to drive a manual, but there's some "special" about the people who aren't capable of learning such a simple, foundational skill.
>>
>>64282706
> Maybe people buy nice things because they like them?

(I’m the guy he’s responding to)
I’m not sure how to respond to this so I’ll do my best. If I ask you to write down an exhaustive list of all the reasons you do X (let’s say in this case, X=paying taxes), and one of the items on this list is “so I don’t get shot to death”, then every other item on the list fades into irrelevance. This is the forcing function that deals with and threatens the satisfaction of a much higher order biological imperative, so its value is greater than anything else on the list. I will then conclude that despite your 50 item long list, you pay taxes so you aren’t shot to death. Now do X=buying a fancy car instead of a normal one. One of the items on this list is “so girls will be impressed and give me sex”. Well, you are a creature whose sole imperative is to ejaculate inside the girls, so everything else instantly becomes irrelevant and I conclude that this purchase was sexually motivated. So it’s kinda hard to do something that is the typical and expected behavior of any male that has the capacity to do it, one that is rewarded with sex/female admiration/respect from men, and act like the impetus for it is some 5th force of nature without its own upstream cause. I don’t want to insult you, but this is woman-tier thinking. The girls also pretend the things they do are ultimately without reason, like their brains contain random number generators that do not interact with space and time and they just do things for unexplainable magical girl reasons.
>>
>>64281253
> Its utter nog behavior

I missed this part, otherwise I would’ve engaged with it in my previous reply to you.

The rule is that everything niggers do lives on the midwit meme. You can derive conspicuous consumption, the handicap principle, strategic pluralism, might is right, lordosis behavior, the utility of language, friend-enemy distinction, etc just from observing the niggers in their most feral state (current). This is because they are simple animals and so they do not obscure their instincts and desires behind many layers of abstraction the way everybody else does. But at the end of the day, I mean we are the same species so in our most base instincts, we’re not gonna be very different. All the shit I said about “it is imperative to ejaculate inside the girls” also applies to males of any other species. If your dog could understand English, he’d nod his head in understanding.

TLDR we are all niggers. Sorry.

I mean I could have, there just wasn't much appeal in owning a car that'd get smoked by Miatas and EG Civics on the roads/tracks I was running. A C5/6 Vette or E92 M3 would've been the V8 cars worth having at the time for what I was doing but those were definitely outside my means.

Nowdays my taste is very different but I still won't buy a V8 car just because it's a V8 and my main interest is restomodding a classic Ford eventually, I really want to do a Torino or Galaxie inspired by vintage NASCAR and the ones that went to Europe and road raced.

The SC400 is a very competent sports car, by the way. Once you throw out a bunch of the useless pigfat, it's got the same suspension geometry as an A80 Supra and better aero. Once upon a time you could pick the things up for $500 running, and they're still not expensive.

I know the SC can be made into a pretty solid performer but they weren't really on the radar back then, and would've been a bigger project than I was looking for during most of that time. Could've done it when I worked at a shop but it was a BMW/Porsche shop so I had the E30 and E36 instead.
