>>64285262Well, then I'd point to rifles and the implicit assumption of early lore that combat ranges are so short because 'Mechs are swimming in EW (before the Raven came along and threw all that into chaos).Or, I'd just take advantage of Omni capability to fit UMUs and LRTs and laugh all the way home that you bid away your ASW capacity in a littoral battle.

>>64285216>Know that mech weapons top out at 2000mRanges are fiddly. The rules say flat out at the start of modern editions that they're entirely there to facilitate fun games on a limited space. If you use optional rules, there's extreme ranges, and then LOS or horizon range. LOS ranges are infinite, as much as you have physical sightline across any distance. Flak ammo or cluster autocannons with a decent pilot can hit any attacking aircraft with decent regularity, if you use LOS range they can punch back at range fine enough. Unless you're breaking the batchall they know you're bringing a shitload of aircraft, too.It could do with testing but using primitive weaponry rules properly and LOS range or anti-aircraft return fire it's pretty possible to shoot down a completely ridiculous amount of modern aircraft attacking a group of mechs.

>>64286106a lot of the planets in BT have their major population centers centered around their capitol and spaceport since the succession wars blasted most of the population to radioactive dust, therefore it's easier for an invading force to "claim" a planet if they snag the starport. >>64284583I still am in total disbelief this shit is canon
>>64286106Clan Wolf actually did pull off something like that once. They got into a bidding war with clan Ghost Bear over the right to invade Rasalhague. The Ghost bear Khan realized that the cutdown was getting ridiculous so he lowballed Clan Wolf to 3 Clusters in an effort to make them so weak they couldn't even invade. Clan Wolf accepted the bargain and, to everyone's surprise, succeeded in conquering Rasalhague with just three Clusters, over the course of fifteen days.

>>64288247He didn't. His *boss* (Natasha Kerensky) bid him to take Gunzburg. He had history with the elected governor (he was in a forbidden love with said governor's daughter, and got kicked off the planet for it a few months before being captured by Clan Wolf). He negotiated a parlay, and then basically offered the governor a Faustian ultimatum: surrender the planet and get left largely alone, or resist and the planet gets largely trashed in the fighting. The governor gave in, which continued the ongoing brick joke that is Phelan's sunglasses.

>>64285782You'd actually get mad props from the Clanners even if you got your ass kicked.
>>64293309>>64295162I think there is a lot of room for interesting political moves going forward in the setting, like how the Snow Ravens and Capellans brought back the whole "nukes and orbital bombardment" style of warfare while the Sea Foxes are trying to become the new Comstar with a fraction of the subtlety of Comstar. They just need to be even-handed when it comes to dealing with the factions. Like right now Clan Wolf is on top, but its powerbase is dependent on being allied with a militarily ascendant Clan Snow Raven and an economically ascendant Clan Sea Fox, who could very easily make a play for them to be the real powers behind Clan Wolf throne.

>>64285216Clan AMS use lasers though they still fielded modern CWIS style AMS that fired flechettes for better ammunition capacity.
>>64292799I'm both saddened by this news and also okay with it. On one hand it was hilarious to suffer an ammo explosion on a Rifleman and be able to see the detonation from orbit. On the other, an ammo hit was an instant kill unless you had expanded nearly all your ammo or took CASE.
>>64292631Here Sonny, have an LTV-4.
>>64295475>Are they good?MechWarrior 2 is a timeless classic but a full thirty years old at this point, MechAssault for the OG Xbox is solid retro fun, MW3 and MW4 are okay but antiquated, MW5 and MW5 Clans are turds and MWO is garbage. The 2018 Battletech is great. If you want a solid taste of the franchise without having to boot up DOSBox, play that.
>>64295475Don't listen to >>64297503, between the DLC improvements and mods MW5 turned out pretty good even if the base game is very rough. MWO is janky though, enjoyable jank but jank nonetheless.
>>64297515Inclined to agree, especially with the latest DLC, M5: Mercs has really improved over the original base game.main negatives: AI team-mate pilots are still bullet magnets half the time so dont stick anything valuable on their mechs, and the non-storyline missions are procedurally generated, and get rather bland, and can get grindy. rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat, etc. Otherwise, its pretty solid. And the 2018 HBS "Battletech" is a gem, with a brilliant design that really makes you care about your pilots.
>>64297531>with a brilliant design that really makes you care about your pilots. Also tons of memory leaks and slow loading times. Mods (like mission control and bigger drops) are necessary because the base game is all sorts of bullshit.
>>64289455THAT is a AAAA game worth 100 bucks.I wonder if there will ever be a giga-indepth game like that, there's obviously a market for it but holy FUCK it'd be expensive and take so long to make.
>>64284525tubefaggots deserve the rope
>>64297515>between the DLC improvements and mods MW5 turned out pretty goodFor like ~20 hours, and then the realization that you can only polish a turd so much sinks in. I also question if someone new to the franchise would even get that much out of it since a lot of the mileage of mods is deflecting the monotony setting in by tossing LosTech, more 'mechs and new maps at you and if you aren't already into Battletech a LPL is just a somewhat better LL. MW5 might be worth a pirate but it sure as shit isn't worth buying unless you can somehow get the whole bundle for like $15. I'd also say that it has Bethesda problem - the more you fix it with mods, the more you start thinking "why the fuck wasn't this in the base game?" and resentment builds from there.
>>64284525The 105th Guards Armored Division stands ready to fight your entire Trinary single handed. If you convert a IRL Armored Division to BT stats then the clans would be smashed to bits, the fact that the Norks favor meme-tastic tanks would be icing on the cake.Songun 916:>AC 15>Twin MG/AGLs>SRM 2s>Second pair of SRM 2s (not sure how the AA missiles are in BT) >Ablative armorBT mechs are mostly a joke, they would be slaughtered**Atlas are cool and if you need something punched by 100 tons of wrath they work.
>>64288026That's literally clan ceremonial garb.
>>64297586not how it works. modern weapons barely scratch mechs
>>64295475>there exist video games. Are they good?>I have zero knowledge or interest in the tabletop stuffMechwarrior 2 is a DOS / Win95 era glorified rail shooter with some replay value due to customisation. if you're into heavily pixelated polygons and wireframes then it's good.MechCommander 2 is one of the few truly real-time tactical games. no base-building. some unit customisation, and pilot swapping. lots of running around the map with a dungeon party and a healer. if you're really into tactical games perhaps HBS Battletech is better for that, but I don't know.Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries is good all-around Mech game. in fact it's a worse rendition of Battletech than MCU is of Marvel comics, but it's fun enough that fans don't give a shit. that's how good it is.I'm old enough that I quit playing games before HBS so I defer to the other anons on that
>>64297586>dosen't knowThe faggot Devs said that modern military vehicles would be completely ineffective against mechs and then proceeded to pull bullshit out their asses to justify it. Every depiction of Mechs in video games would turn a M1 Abrams into a eldritch horror that could TAC with APFSDS (they literally forgot how to make these and use WW2 APHE) from 2+km away.

>>64297632>>64297658Right because it's magic where MGs are actually 120mm machineguns but somehow infantry units can sometimes resist them and despite Mechs at most weighing 100 tons they carry 100 rounds of 120mm MG rounds in a one ton ammo slot right?I played BT before the majority of the people in this thread were born, it's all bullshit.
