I'm looking at picking up my first handgun pretty soon, and I've been eyeing police trade-ins as I'm on a budget. At present, the most affordable pistol to me is a certified pre-owned Sig Pro 2340 in 357 Sig. What are the advantages of 357 sig as opposed to 40 smith? Should I look elsewhere? Thanks for reading.

If you're on a budget you don't want 357 sig. By the time you've shot 1k rounds of ammo you could've bought a slightly more expensive 9mm gun and 2k rounds of ammot. 357sig owner

>>64285844Copsurp is a great way to get a pistol for a good price. Usually have a lot of external wear, the night sights will be about dead, but they will usually be perfect inside. Glocks, Sigs, S&W all pop up regularly. I would look for a .40 over a .357 SIG, because ammo will be much cheaper and easier to find. That said, .357 sig is a very potent handgun cartridge, but the advantages over .40 aren't enough in commercial ammo. If you are planning to reload your own pissin hot nuclear handloads while drinking beer and watching NASCAR, get a .357 sig. If you want ammo availability with plenty of effective options off the shelf, get the .40. Also, all .40 Glocks can be converted to .357 sig with just a barrel swap, mags are the same since it's just a necked-down .40, and a barrel and mags can also swap you to 9mm. I don't know if this is true for other brands. Get a copsurp. 4th Gen glocks are all over, and 3rd gens can be had for next to nothing.

It is becoming increasingly hard to find and expensive to purchase.
