I came across this new flip Rifle when I was looking for Armscor ammo and found it interesting. Looked at the archives and it was never mentioned in /k/ once so might as well share it here. All of this info comes from this video where Armscor/RIA's Daniel Tuason (Armscor Owner's younger brother apparently) explains the R&D process. Intro is in flip but guy explains it in English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjmLUa0CXRwSummary:>RIA was working with the PH military, police, etc. to make a service rifle for all PH agencies that require carrying a rifle.>One of the main issues for Flip servicemen with imported rifles is how big the handguards were (kek) so they wanted a smaller and lighter one>they also wanted it to fire 6 magazines full-auto without getting hot while also wanting it to be return to zero>these proved to be challenging for RIA since they have to make a smaller, lighter, yet sturdy handguard without also burning your hands from the heat transfer>finds the answer with Zircotec (some ceramic coating technology) and even then it still ran hot after 4 mags>started fucking with the barrel as well to minimize heat transfer as much as possible and eventually created their own 'sort of a bull barrel'>Did testing again and they accomplished to go through 4-5 mags without burning your hands and compares it to other leading rifle brands which can only go through 3>since PH is an archipelago, they also wanted the rifle to be OTB capable, so they went with a short-stroke gas piston system since the DGIS 'is a relic of the past' anyway>Tuason personally wanted to one-up the HK416 so he also wanted the rifle to fire underwater. They re-engineered the entire chamber system so it could fire 1 mag underwater without deformation>Have plans to release a civie modelTL;DR: It's a Flip's take on the HK416 that's fully ambidextrous, has a smaller and lighter yet heat-resistant handguard, and has OTB capabilities.
>>Tuason personally wanted to one-up the HK416 so he also wanted the rifle to fire underwater. They re-engineered the entire chamber system so it could fire 1 mag underwater without deformationBold claim. I want one just to test it.
>>64292873Cool looking gun but Taurus already won that contract. They sold over 40 thousand T4 AR-15 rifles to the Philippines years ago.
>>64292873If you've ever worked with ceramics, they're extremely brittle. Sure, you can give something a solid coating and it may function as intended for a time, but inevitably it will deteriorate and you're left with plain old anodizing. It's a cool concept, heat resistance is the biggest thing holding firearms back from advancing, but it's not going to have much life to it.
If its a $600 416 it would be neat to try
>>64292975Apparently there is some flip law that empowers local gun manufacturers to produce for the government or some shit. Don't know if they currently have a contract with the AFP. https://businessmirror.com.ph/2024/09/17/armscor-global-defense-launches-two-new-firearms-fitted-for-afp/>>64292980He actually touched on this @4:03 in the video. Apparently they're fabrics? I'm not really familiar with ceramic material science. Also, it's not single-handedly keeping the heat off as they also designed the barrel with that in mind. I hope some flip in the military could independently stress test his claims. >>64292989It's Armscor/RIA. It's probably going to be cheaper kek.
>Smaller and LighterI wonder how it weighs. It still is a short stroke gas piston.
>>64292873It also has a short-barrel version.
>>64292873>a smaller and lighter one>they also wanted it to fire 6 magazines full-auto without getting hotThat's actually impressive since all aluminum quads and freefloats get pretty damn hot and the skinny ones heat up faster.
>>64292989You can get a $600 Taiwanese 416 right now. They also were the OG short stroke AR adopters too.
>>64293064That's actually really smart... impregnated carbon or some kevlar composite might work really well. You have to think of ceramics like metallic clay, they have immense heat deflection and cooling but the trade of is that they typically can't handle immense pressures or anything that would require rigidity or tensegrity. I'd acutely be really curious to try this. I had a similar idea for suppressor blankets using volcanic fiber.
>>64296751It might be as simple as something like compressed kaowool, which I've actually personally used when I build forges for casting and blacksmithing.I've taken sheets of it and held a blowtorch to one side with my palm on the other (not for long, but long enough that without 1-1/2" of material my hand would have been burnt clean through). Now that this has been mentioned I'm super curious if I could just cram a bunch inside my handguard and have similar success...
>>64297026The risk I think you'd run into is toxic fumes. Just do the and thing with volcanic fiber.
>>64296740I have one of the first gen T91/A1 uppers. Weirdly, the barrel appears to be chromed but the chamber isn't. Which I guess makes sense with the piston? maybe?
If you look on Zircotec's website, the product they advertise for this sort of application is a flexible stainless steel sheet that's ceramic coated on both sides. It looks sort of fabric-like, I guess.
>>64297282They make identical material for motorcycle engines and fairings. You can buy it on Amazon. I worked on race bikes before I became a machinist, it cut heat down by at least 50°.
>>64292873>Tuason personally wanted to one-up the HK416 so he also wanted the rifle to fire underwater. They re-engineered the entire chamber system so it could fire 1 mag underwater without deformationHoly shit, that unlocked some weird fucking /k/ memory I didn't know I had. I remember that gif of the guy coming out of the water with a 416 years ago and anons talking about it. Seems so distant as I can't remember specifics but I saw that fucking gif all the time.
>>64292873>flip gun that isn't boring or mediocre while also being entirely made in the Philippines>they accomplished to go through 4-5 mags without burning your handsOk that's actually cool. >>64292975Flips have a huge array of random ARs other than Taurus including domestic manufacturers, Remington, Colt, and Emtan both piston and DI, sometimes even in the same unit which I've personally witnessed. I know for a fact that at least a small handful of poor fucks still have M14s, at least as of last year. They don't really have a standard service rifle and if they need more guns they'll get them.
>>64297277That's kind of bizarre because it would suggest that the chamber was cut AFTER the bore of the barrel was chrome lined? In theory this would be better for accuracy I suppose, as it'd allow you to more precisely cut the throat, but it would also be obviously not ideal for wear nor corrosion resistance on an island nation continuously exposed to warm salt air.It would also MASSIVELY decrease cutting tool life. Strange all around anon.
>>64297282>>64297459This begs the question then. Why did it take flips to apply this technology to firearms? Heat has been a major problem in this industry for like decades.
