Would a chopped and suppressed Winchester 1895 in 30-06 be a good scout rifle?Lyman peep will also be installed to fix the limited sight radius. This would be like a 2.5k project so I wanted some feedback from the weapons experts on the "/k/ - Weapons" forum.
>>64299097What are you scouting?
>>64299103Lots of coyotes and whitetails, hogs too eventually, they've been steadily moving toward this county. Also gongs at a maximum of ~900 yards
>>64299097I don't think .30-06 would be the optimal caliber for the job. It is designed around longer barrels. I'd think something with a shorter case and wider bore diameter would make more sense. Otherwise you are just filling that suppressor full of unburnt powder and not really getting much out of it.As far as the 1895, that's a pretty rare and expensive gun. I wouldn't advise messing with one of those. If you work with a Browning BLR or a Savage 99 those are a lot more common and affordable. Also, you can probably get a takedown version of those and therefore not be fully committed to a cut barrel rifle. You can have a cut/headspaced/suppressor ready barrel in one caliber that's optimized for it and another in the original caliber. The Savage 99 in general is a better design than the 1895 and the BLR is more readily available. Used 99s in funky calibers can be pretty cheap too (because they are expensive to shoot) which is a non issue if a custom barrel is being installed anyway so long as the new caliber works with the magazine and bolt face. It is a sensitive job though, and should be done by an experienced gunsmith.
>>64299121You aren't going to be ringing gongs at 900yd with an 1895, much less a cut down one. If you cut a .30-06 or .308 down from 18" to 16" you start to see a considerable drop in velocity and performance, going into actual SBR lengths like 12" or 10" can make for a gun gun but only at short range. The muzzle blast from a caliber like that out of a short barrel is pretty impressive, but also consider what that's going to do to your suppressor.
>>64299097>integrally suppressed levergunsExplain to me why we dont have these in relative abundance
>>64299159A fun* gun at short range.
>>64299097>Long action cartridge>short barrelAbsolutely retarded.
>>64299160The NFA has a chilling effect because it limits buyers but also dealers and even shipping gets expensive. With the HPA and (possibly) full de regulation that would change. Lever guns with threaded barrels are a thing already, and since many of them are pistol caliber it is a great combination. Even a 45-70 levergun+suppressor can be tons of fun.
Weren't we supposed to get a lever action AR by now?
>>64299097$2500 and two stamps to make a worse rifle than a $400 savage axis from sportsmans warehouse
>>64299216That is a thing, sort of. Bond Arms and Henry make lever actions that take AR magazines. Doing a full on AR-15 wouldn't make sense because the buffer tube would be useless and in the way.
>>64299228I don't buy guns made by woke companies, guns made in the developing world, or guns with safety warning or manual engravings
>>64299253Bond Arms was announced like three years ago and hasn't been heard of since
>>64299295Fortunate for you that miroku leverguns use the safety warning zone on the side of the barrel to explain the current ownership status of the winchester trademark instead, I guess.
>>64299205A suppressed .45-70 would FUCK.
>>64299362The giant puff of gray lead dust as the bullet vaporizes against a steel target after rainbow arcing in at long range is pure sex.>T. Shot an 1886 Trapdoor at long range with hand loads.
>>64299408A dude I know handloads a .75 Dutch Snider. It's a huge, fat, slow bullet, like the world's most retarded 10ga slug, you can easily see it fly and arc.
>>64299295how are yall this fuckin fragile
worth a shot but do it with a miroku one, the older ones don’t like modern 30-06 and typically have head spacing issues.
>>64299362they are extremely popular with the boomers that hang out at my LGS, especially the more portly guys that wear suspenders and reek of cigarettes.
>>64299097I've been thinking about threading a 336 in .30-30 FWIW. Might not recommend going super short, can't imagine it would silence well. Here's Roosevelt's 1894.
>>64299695I can see an 1894 in .30-30 with a short tube and a ~14" barrel working quite well. That caliber isn't very high velocity and doesn't need a ton of real estate to burn most of it's powder.
>>64299097>buy Mosin M38 or M44 (shortest barreled Mosin)>thread barrel>????>profit
>>64299689I just like the thought of 500gr subsonics from a 1885 highwall.
>>64299097>30-06>maximum of ~900 yards>yotes, deer, swine6.5 or .243. Latter for zippy yote loads particularly. Former for Gonging. 30-30 if you give up gonging.
>>64299534Poorly socialized/socialized through online echo chambers. Emotionally dysregulated thoughts and extreme feelings are the first and immediate reaction to anything they don’t like as it’s perceived as a direct threat and those reactions are encouraged by their echo chambers.
>>64299097>30-36>choppedno, not even with a can
>>64299295Holy shit you're the coolest guy on this board
By definition if it isn't using the same intermediate cartridge as the rest of your team then it isn't a scout rifle.
>>64301844>>64302011>just give money to companies that hate you, chud!
>>64302011>vibrantInteresting terminology, how would you define this word?
>>64302011>make it more vibrant
>>64302069No company cares about you.
>>64302215>Street markets, busy streets full of cultural blending, different art styles, foods, clothing, and festivals.>The good part is that this is inevitable and nothing you losers crying on the internet can do change that.
>>64302011>SerbI've been summoned>>64299097There are probably better, cheaper things that can fill this role
>>64302215You talk like a fag and your shits all fucked up
>>64299362I took a whitetail last year with a suppressed 1895 SBL.Probably doing it this year too.
>>64302011>desperate to leave shithole homeland and live with me>somehow making my community more “vibrant” People like you should be deported to the Congo where you can have all the diversity you want. Faggot.
>>64302215Don’t forget massive increases in rapes, murders, corruption, trash being left on the streets, and the average IQ score plummeting.
>>64299362It does fuck, anon. It does fuck.I started dreaming about such a combo back in the nineties. When I eventually had the money for a stainless Marlin GG in 2004, they were hard as fuck to get. When my cucked state finally made silencers legal in 2011, there wasn't anything available that would handle 45-70. When shit finally came together and I got a Hybrid 46 in 2018, I realized that the wait had been worth it. Fucking 20 years in the making.
>>64301844>>64302011>>64302309>>64302555holy shit thats the most (you)s ive ever had. I mostly lurk and then get mad about viking shit. I am a better shot, have better sex with my fiance, and generally a more moral person than the vast majority of 4chan, but I'm still here which means I'm worse than most of the fucking world. The idea that anyone that disagrees with you is trans might suggest that you yourself, are experiencing body dysmorphia.>>64302574this is the sexiest thing i have ever seen but clean your goddamn floor anon. I remember reading about a marlin that could handle water better without rusting as quickly, is that the stainless?
>>64302574also, do you enjoy the 45-70 enough that its worth it to reload? Have been debating putting some savings into a gun but my initial thought was .357
Cool you're gonna have like 2 rounds in your tube
>>64301653just carry a 40lb rifle. holy fuck you are retarded
>>64305410Skill issue, lift weights pussy.
>>64305410I don't remember Mosin weighing that much when I handled one as a 12 year old
yant/yornt gonna do any of this man
>>64299097I thought about threading and suppressing mine but the 1895 is too cool and unique to molest like that
>>64304202This one is indeed stainless. I hit the receiver, barrel, lever, and mag tube with Norrel moly resin in gloss black because why the fuck not, but it's stainless underneath. As for the floor, it's a 94 year old basement. That's 94 years of paint applied, paint worn off, various things spilled, and lots of wear and tear. The stories it could tell if it could talk.>the blue and red patches are remnants of paint jobs that are more visible in less trafficked areas>the oil stains were mostly there, it used to have a driveway leading down into it back in the day and a car was parked in there>some of the other shit is more recent, I can scrape it off or walk it off and walking it off is easier>the cat litter is part of having cats, it gets vacuumed on Sundays>>64304247I was reloading it before suppressors were legal in this state. If you're going to shoot 45-70 on a regular basis and you're not independently wealthy, you should consider rolling your own. 405 and 500 grain subs are tame enough to be fun to shoot, even for inexperienced shooters. Smokeless BP duplicates of historic loads are also fine. 350 grain assfuckers reaching into the low end of 458 winmag? Potentially fun for the spectators, not fun for the shooter. I've never detached a retina with that shit (others have) but it was on my mind, and that's when I was a young man.
