I saw a black bear in my neighborhood and now it's got me spooked.
Would 45 ACP be good enough? Or would I need 10mm or 357 Magnum?

yeah

Also, any recommendation for a 1911 in 10mm that has more rounds? I want a 1911, but don't like that most of them only have 8 rounds max

>Would 45 ACP be good enough? Or would I need 10mm or 357 Magnum?
.45 is fine. The general consensus is to get the largest caliber that you can shoot accurately; for some people that's .357 Magnum, for others it's 9mm +P, and then mag dump the bear that's trying to kill you.

This is the once a bear thread reminder that picking a caliber matters a lot less than practicing with your caliber. Stay vigilant of the ursine menace anons.

Bear spray, generally more effective than firearms and more difficult to fuck up in a high stress, novel situation. You can shoot it too if it still charges at you.
>>
>>64306585
why would you want to shoot that cutie, just look at him. there's millions of niggers to practice your aim with.
>>
>>64306585
you might consider something with more penetration instead of something with stopping power, since they have quite a lot of meat on them
something with a bottlenecked cartridge, like 7.62x25 or 5.7
>>64306627
i think you'll find that you dont really want more out of a 1911, the slim frame is the main selling point of it to me, and you lose if you dont get a single stack. If you need more, just get spare mags, it will be enough
>>
>>64306585
It's a blackie, Anon, harsh language is. literally, almost always enough to make them fuck off. They're the size of a big dog and the ones that made it this far know not to fuck with Humans.
>will a 1911 work
It's what I carry, because I'm confortable and accurate with it. I live in brown bear and cougar country. Practice shooting it. Realistically what you need is mace or an air horn. If you plug a largely harmless bear in someone else's yard from 50 feet away because you were "scared"? You're going to get fucked by the game warden and the local PD, then probably sued by your neighbor. If you just wing it, you run a real risk of injuring it enough that it starts actually becoming a threat when the wound gets infected.
Basically don't act like a fucking chimp. Sure, carry if it makes you feel more comfortable, but a black bear is nowhere near the top ten list of reasons you might need it.
>>
>>64306585
>I saw a black bear in my neighborhood and now it's got me spooked.
Just yell at black bears you fucking city transplant. They're as easy to scare as you are
>>
>>64306585
Protip, city slicker: treat bears like homeless people; mostly they just want to dig through trash for ummies. Some few are crazy, do not engage. Spray the one you have to, shooting the homeless is not.rrquired.
>>
>>64306585
Black bears are like big raccoons. They may bluff charge to scare you out of their feeding grounds but it's easy to scare them back.

https://youtu.be/Bkwy0scRXBU

9mm is fine against them, just stay in the right mindset and shoot where you need to. Most likely unless it's a pissed off grizzly or black bear defending cubs, they're not gonna mess with you. Brown bears are when you need to start thinking bigger calibers. 10mm is a widely accepted adequate bear caliber for a semiauto handgun, but I'm gonna warn you that shit recoils like fuck even out of my 2lb steel frame Witness. .40 is a good compromise. The various .357 rounds have a necked down bullet that can cause feeding issues, but they're a small fast round. .45 is a big slow round. You want a big fast round for maximum effectiveness, but it's only gonna be as good as you can shoot it.
>>
>>64306585
Black bears are basically niggers. Anything anti personal will work, 45 is fine.
>>
>>64306585
Black bears are just oversized dogs.
They're spooked by nothing and will take off running if they hear a loud noise.
>>
>>64306809
That target seems a little racist. Why a black bear and not a polar bear? Polar bears are much more deadly

>.357 rounds have a necked down bullet that can cause feeding issues
It's less likely to FTF because projectile is small and head side of chamber is large, please don't say that about my precious 357 Sig.
It's probably worse than 45 for bear defense though. Big hard cast bullets ftw.

Wow, I can tell nobody here has ever hunted a bear.

Fuck the 10 fags they're retarded.

The only semi auto pistol caliber I trust my life on is .460 rowland and for wheel gats we don't bring anything less than .44

Rifles open up your options greatly but for pistols if its not a rowland then it's your funeral.

Fucking non hunters suck
9mm, no. Black bear once they get into the 400-600+ lb range are a pain in the ass. Just get a 44 magnum if you are buying a pistol specific for woods and bear.
>>muh capacity
Point out where anyone ever has needed more than six shots. Its really, really hard to do isn't it. And even in those extreme situations where you can its because they were missing most if not all of their shots. Get a big iron and be done with it.

Nah, You want to be certain with rabies-infused zombie murder bears. Go with .22 LR bolt action. Has put more meat on innawoods tables than all other calibers combined.

Well, .22 LR out of a Remington Nylon 66 is enough for moose, so out of an NAA mini revolver it should still have enough stopping power for black bear.

That's an entire screenplay for a movie (or Disney mini-series™) right there. Or/&also an game or three. This is a perfect /k/ + /v/ + /g/ mashup, even if just a silly phoneappgame.

They’re just big dogs bro.
Anyway, I don’t think there is a difference between any of those calibers when it comes to killing a bear.
