I need a bug out bag, where do I start and what type of bag should I get?
>>64307514no you dont.
>>64307519Yes he does
>>64307514Start with actually planning what to do when you bug out. Then fill your bag with shit that’ll help you accomplish said plan.Where are you going? How will you get there? How long will it take? Will you have access to water along the way? Etc
>>64307552This. Also do a dry run. You'll realize 95% of your ideas are retarded.
A bag you can actually carry and reasonably get shit out of when you need it and know everything that is inside of it. Bug Out usually implies you have some set goal of a place to bug out to. If you're bugging out from Work to Home, how long does it take a normal time person (maps) and then double it or even triple it and prepare as such.If it's a 3 day bag to get to a completely different region in a disaster. You might wanna start exercising with a full load bag. Though at some point it may be better to have a lightweight vehicle like a dirtbike.
>>64307557This.The ganola REI types are unironically better prepared that 97% of /k/.>get wasted by some fag with a pc9 and an osprey bagoh lawd help me.
>>64307514My bug-out bag is just my normal /out/ pack, and that means my Osprey Atmos. If it saw me through 6 months up the AT and a couple of long trips in the Himalayas too, then I'm pretty sure it'll do fine for a bug out to my mate's farm or wherever else I need to go. Whatever you get, make sure you take it for a spin a few times so you know what it's like to properly hike with it on your back. >>64307577>>get wasted by some fag with a pc9 and an osprey bagFor real though
>>64307514>where do I startPlanning. Where are you bugging out to, and where from? How will you get there? Whom, if anybody, are you bringing with you? Do you or those people have any special medical conditions, dietary requirements, etc?>what type of bag should I get?Impossible to give a good answer without knowing the above.
>>64307514The important question is, bug out whence and whither? You will get some shitty answers unless you specify.
You don't need a bug out bag. If shit ever hits the fan, you will pack in under an hour guaranteed. Right now there are five things you can do,>make sure your documents are waterproof since that's the most time-consuming part>make sure you've got some cash on your hands since cards might not be an option>check if you've got enough basic meds for fever, food poisoning, etc. at your house>memorize your family's phone numbers>identify (or buy if yours suck) a pair of comfortable shoes fit for walking long distances in the mudThat's about it.
>>64308673+ Deal with any health issues you have that you can fix or mitigate but have put on the back burner. They will flare up at the worst possible moment.
>>64307514Do you have a solid idea of where you'll go and how you'll get there? I mean a specific destination, route, and method of travel, not just "innawoods, away from here"If not, bugging out is retarded and you'll die of exposure or shit yourself to death after drinking from the wrong streamIf yes, whatever it takes for you to get there, of which you should have a good idea by now. If you don't, refer to the paragraph above
>>64307514The bugs are already out anon, you just have to find them!>>64307519fpbp nothing ever happens
>>64309977I don't understand the whole "bug out" circejerk larpfest. What scenario are we talking about? A sudden invasion? A zombie apocalypse? Running from the FBI? Lmao.Schizo shit aside, let's assume it's a war. In order to avoid getting Bucha-fied as a civilian, you need to find a vehicle ready to give you a lift. You also need to know where you're going. This determines the size of the bug out bag. It could be a suitcase, could be a combo of several bags, or a backpack if you're unlucky.
Realistically you aren’t going to be able to keep much more in a bag than a med kit, sleeping bag, hand crank radio, flashlight, some food, a shit hole digging shovel, a tent, and some clothes. Not a terrible idea to pre pack these but two weeks food and two weeks water gets harder. Those purification straws usually get nasty quick. Just buy a couple buckets of emergency rations they sell at Costco and keep some water bottle cases in your garage. You can pack the entire thing up along with whatever gun you are bringing in literally a minute and be on your way to wherever you think you need to go. Most of the time it’s easier to shelter in place though. Outside of civil unrest (you shouldn’t be living in a metro area anyway) and wildfires it’s usually safer to shelter in place though.>HurricanesYou know they’re coming and can evacuate ahead of time or shelter in place depending on how bad and whether flooding is likely>Tornadoes and EarthquakesHit before you can do much but get to the basement or go outside>FloodsTypically you shelter in place and get high until the storm passes and then you evacuate>Blizzards/Ice stormsShelter in place
>>64310081Having a ready-to-go bag in cease of weather emergencies and evacuations is very smart, but having one for civil unrest/zombie shit is gay and LARPy.
>>64309977Agreed, there is no "Bug out" for most of us, everything I need is at home, if nukes fall and it glasses my area, then so fucking be it, it was my time to go.
>>64310081This is what I meantFirst, have a destination where you're going - be it a relative in the next town over, a cabin in the woods where you can hide, or the nearest border crossingSecond, have the means to get there. Going on foot doesn't count, that's retarded unless things have gotten so bad that roads are destroyed or extremely unsafe. That means a motorized vehicle, ideally a car with a trunk. A bicycle will do in a pinch, if you're fit, but is really not a great option. Beats going on foot though.Third, have a planned route, one which avoids common traffic congestion points, because everyone else will be running too, and several alternatives in the case of blockades, destroyed roads etc.Fourth, pack your essentials (documents, medications), enough water and food to make it if the road is twice as long as expected, change of clothes as needed (CLEAN, DRY SOCKS), whatever nice-to-haves you can think of, like physical maps, multitool, flashlight etc, and ideally a means of self-defense, meaning a concealed firearm if possible. Depending on the season and the route length, sleeping bags may be advisable. Even a car can get cold surprisingly quicklyFor adults, this comes to about a medium-large backpack per person, and backpacks are ideal because if it comes down to it, everyone can carry their stuff on their person. Accounting for kids is complicated and I won't pretend to know what I'm talking about there so do your own math

Fellas, always pack a roll of tp and your nail clippers. The former is simply essential, the latter is just annoying to replace and it's so light you might as well grab one.
>>64310229>Having a ready-to-go bag in cease of weather emergencies and evacuations...which you can usually see a mile away. House fires and earthquakes, though, are good enough reasons to have an emergency backpack. Istanbul is a prime example.
>>64307514What's the mpg on that thing?
>>64307514bugging out is a worse case scenario. staying put is best in most cricumstances. i would look at where you live and decide where you would leave to. I would most likely leave to the lakes one to two hours away, or head north or south towards smaller towns or your next available metropolitian area. you are going to want large bodies of water because water is a big issue long term. you should have multiple bugout plans because things can go south quickly. but you should consider what not to do in your area. like going out to remote places that wont be good for surivial anyways. from there you should make a bug out bag. they are pretty universal, gun(s), knives, 3 ways to start a fire(lighter, ferro rod, magnifying glass) water filtration, shelter(tents, bivy, tarp) food. that should be in a bag. if you can take more and leave it in a vehicle, good. bugging out is not about going out and leaving civilization forever, its about getting away for safety until you can relocate to somewhere more permanent.
>>64310487Bug out of what, nigga?
>>64310497not wherever you are going brownie.
>>64310513???? Are you okay?
>>64307577Just because you don't /out/ doesn't mean that's true for all of /k/
