Well, Well, Wellhttps://defence-blog.com/india-orders-97-tejas-mk1a-jets-in-7-billion-deal/#google_vignette
India orders its own domestic 4th gens? And?
Congrats, the jeets now have a jet worse than the 20 year old Flankers and Rafales for the price of an F-35
>>64313036And how long will it take to deliver these 'aircraft'?
>>64313084I'm fairly sure fulfilling the order proceeds at HAL speed. So two or three decades.
great news for pakistasn

>>64313036>7 billion What the fuck.
>>64313036Isn't this shit the jet on 40 years of development? It's not even a real frontline fighter, it's a LCA comparable to the FA-50, L-159, MB-345FA etc
>>64313360>India domestically produces outdated crapWoah bro I am shocked
>>64313339>Did India spend 30 years building Gripen but badâ„¢Yeah.>I thought it at least had a domestic powerplantIt was originally supposed to have one, but lets say its development goals, timeline and budget were far more fucked up than those of Tejas itself. Adaptive cycle engines were becoming viable tech in late 80's. This something western manufacturers were toying with at the time, Europeans on experimental prototype level and 'murricans at full blown development scale. Basically everyone ran into shitshow fundamentally unsolved issues and decided to dabble with major issues one at the time on experimental scale for next 20 to 30 years. Indians really thought that they could develop the most advanced aircraft engine with 50 million dollars, while western manufacturers expected to spend like 10 billion to develop one.
>>64313036Constant sperging over the Tejas is some weird Pakistani shit. Who the fuck cares?
>>64313477It's funny to watch the two saars duke it out like we give a shit
>>64313360>it's a LCA comparable to the FA-50, L-159, MB-345FA etcAll the others you mentioned actually fly and have international customers, so it's actually lower than those

>>64313360This contract is just life support for the local aerospace industry, it's not about actually getting a good product for the army.

>>64313036So by 2050 India will have... 97 jets that are about comparable to an early F-16. Wow.
>>64315864The production there is not fully local and doesn't help the local aerospace industry in terms of getting and retaining competency.
>>64313471>>64313339The Kaveri engine shitshow was hilarious >Had a bloated government org for gas turbines>It has build ONE low pressure technology demonstrator in his whole history >Give it a shoestring budget to develop a powerplant on par for modern jetsEndless hilarity ensues>Alternately beg foreign companies to help, then refuse>Take 20 years to build a demonstrator>They don't even have wind testing facilities, have to ship it to Russia for testing
>>64316053>comparable to an early F-16Let's not get crazy here. Maybe comparable to a late MiG-21.
>>64313057>for the price of an F-35Grim. I also recently learned the Arjun costs more than a new Leopard 2 or K2.
Sad thread. No mocking the jeets for being excrement in a vaguely human form. /k/ is a redditized board.
>>64313036JFC, it's about fucking time they stopped pussyfooting about and committed to a full serial production run.

>>64317753>Never built a high performance fighter jet engine before>We'll build one with no outside assistance, on a shoestring budget, that will be better than anything else in the worldSo the super majority of everyone involved understood this was just going to be a con for few decades of busy work that wouldn't actually produce anything, right? Or were they actually delusional enough to think this was going to be remotely viable?
>>64320361idk, Turkey is going the same route with their KAAN. They want to get an engine with the performance of an F-110 by 2028. Thing is they they started development a 5 years ago and their previous best was a small subsonic engine for a cruise missile.
>>64318233Noporks made themselves useful in the fights against communism and terrorism (partially caused by them but who’s counting). Nobeefs got giga upsetti for not being seen as useful against anybody that mattered (China matters NOW, but didn’t twenty plus years ago) and therefore not getting gibs like Noporks. And they’re too proud to change (both are this way to be fair)
>>64317044I know that a lot of this is kit assembly/outright imports from Uralvagonzavod, and that T-72/90 isn't a high bar in terms of technical sophistication. But India has been licensed production for long enough at scale you'd think some guys in their MIC would have some clue about manufacturing AFVs. Are the semi-competent guys ostracized for not making domestic India stronk designs? Or are they in the same boat as modern Russia in being totally dependent on Soviet era hulls to build any thing at scale?
>>64313036>>64313294You guys are being unfair to India. This jeet jet has a 6th-gen level ability to enrich dozens of high level Indian politicians, officers, and businessmen.
>>64313294Fun fact: their advanced trainer using a russian engine is DoA because Russia did a major FU with its engine (a downscaled AL-31), they refused to fix the design and indians to accept the fact they were scammed 20 years ago.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_HJT-36_Yashas>first flight: 2003>Introduction: next year, trust the plan sir

>>64320621My understanding is that they just literally havr Russian staff and advisors doing a lot of the work on the Bhishma in Indian facilities. Like they literally don't have Indians doing large parts of the QC and assembly process. Key parts are also still imported from Russia, though Russia has been siphoning them off to send to Ukraine.
>>64320564That sounds maybe a bit questionably ambitious, but potentially nowhere near as retarded as the Tejas engine development if they at least didn't try to cheap out on doing it for only 48 million USD.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvhEN_kHaA4&t=3840s>>64320698>My understanding is that they just literally havr Russian staff and advisors doing a lot of the work on the Bhishma in Indian facilitiesOh. >>64320662And it still hasn't been accepted by the Indian Air Force

>>64320361The Tejas shitshow makes China look much more sensible. They spent decades buying old aircraft carriers, foreign planes (Lavi, MiGs, etc), carefully reverse engineering it then building their own. God knows what possessed the indians to decide to build fighter jets with no experience.

However, by 2013, it was told that the contract for engine development was fulfilled and the JV intended to increase the TTL to 600 hours though IAF insisted a TTL of 1,200 hours. The increase of TTL was important as ASQR projected a "utilisation rate" of 30 hrs/month per aircraft which meant the engines needed to be replaced every 10 months.>>64321048Their automotive import tariffs are between 60% and 100%.

>>64322672A lot of the hobby farmers and small landowners tend to find the Mahindra tractors alright for basic bitch, light duties like slashing, dragging crap around and running something like a hole digger.
