Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can't feel my fingers... And my arm... even my leg... The body I've frozen... the comrades I've lost... I won't shit anything ... It's like they're all still on base. You feel it, too, don't you?

i still don't understand how people find land nav so difficult

how tf do you lose your cardinal sense of direction when you have a compass and map???
>>
>>64326700
It's almost incomprehensible to those of us who take these abilities for granted, but some people cannot understand spatial information. The very concept of "direction" is confusing to them. For such people, land nav is just a series of meaningless numbers. Race and sex play a major role in this.

>Why
It's fun. I enjoyed land nav back on Lost-in-the-Woods. Definitely got the full value out of my helmet though, bashing through low-hanging braches

i was almost about to be shocked someone went a whole post without crude bigotry
>>
>>64328350
Crude bigotry is often biologically accurate. The universe isn't fair or nice, and some of us draw the genetic short straws. Deal with it. Or don't deal with it, and just stay mired in your egalitarian hippie haze.

if you get lost and you have these two items, there is no excuse. i can train a troop of scouts to navigate wilderness with these two in an afternoon.

Eh, I guess it's true some people do have less spatial capabilities but mostly I think it's about practice and effort. A lot of what we take for granted as "natural" may simply be having a healthy childhood where we went outside and explored around a lot. That shit has gotten a lot worse, and voice auto map shit stuff has gone even further. Way too many people just set in a destination and mindlessly do whatever the little voice in their ear tells them to in the car never ever exercising their minds in forming a spatial map of even their own home town or city let alone innawoods.

Yeah some are just hopeless but I think the worsening state of affairs is more down to tech and helicopter parenting.

lol
I was the only kid really good at orienteering back in school. And this happened in a racially homogenous pure white blue-eyed country back in the 90s.
In the army, people were old enough to generally be better at hiding their shortcomings, but you could still tell who never really got it.

I dread to think how bad it is with younger generations who don't play innawoods and were born into a world where everyone has a GPS device in their pocket.

Can you teach me now?
>>
Last land nav course I did, I dead reckoned all of my points during the day. At night I walked into a shin high cactus about 10 minutes in and it went downhill from there
>>
>>64332094
opfor planted that cactus and lovingly tended to it with the sole purpose of inflicting a casualty

The more leftists cry "bigotry" when someone says objective facts, the more normal people will become "bigots".
Proof: See the current political climate. People are done pretending.

Do you have a map and compass?
>>
>>64326700
Depends a lot on terrain features, you need to be able to see hills and valleys you can match to a topographical map.
Navigating any significant distance over flat land is a nightmare, rolling hills are the easiest as you just move peak to peak and always know where you are.
>>
>>64328432
as one of those young people, I think it really depends on how much you actually use your brain. I'm pretty good at regular navigation in life, but I attribute that to only using the map apps as, well, maps. The only times I get lost is when I didn't study the map well enough, and even then, what do you do? Stop (safely), get the map out, retrace the steps I took on off the planned route, using landmarks, and figure out how to turn around back to the route.
Mind you, again, this isn't exactly land nav, but I imagine the steps are the same.
I should invest in a real map though. Google Maps has fucking lied to me more than a couple times on really basic shit like intersections / interchanges not actually being intersections or interchanges, roads actually being private roads or not actually connecting to another road, etc. That shit is why I actually stopped using it to recommend the route, and just as a map.
>>
>>64327576
Yeah idk about this one. Land nav made no sense for me, until I realized you just look at the fucking contour lines and keep sane deadstops.
But at the same time you'd get those knuckledragging mongoloids that can't plot a point at all yet consistently but still get every point on every course, and shoot perfectly too because why not. I think its kind of like those people that have perfect pitch and can "see" sound waves, but with significantly more chromosomes.
I think the reality is that the real world doesn't actually favor intelligence or self reflection, if anything, those traits are frequently selected against, not for.

Because the truth is racist amirite.

Black people IN AMERICA don't swim because swimming is typically taught in swimming CLUBS that gates them like golf CLUBS. Africans in Africa swim all the time because they have rivers.
>>
>>64334606
I'm South African. Blacks cant swim. Its not a conspiracy or legacy of slavery. They just can't swim. Additionally, them splashing around in a shallow river isn't swimming.

We passed upon the stair
We spoke of was and when
Although I wasn't there
He said I was his friend
Which came as some surprise...
I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone
A long long time ago...

Oh no, not me
I never lost control
You're face to face
With the man who sold the world...
