“Ammo” cans are a complete waste of money. They are overpriced containers. Literally any random tupperware or bag would serve the same role.
I keep the ammo cans new ammo comes in and refill itLike a salt shaker or sugar jar
You must not have a lot of ammo. Ammo cans are great for moving and stacking ammo, especially if you’ve got loaded mags in them. Tupperware would get destroyed with 500 rounds of 5.56 on top of it
people buy them because they're cool and make you feel like the punisher
>>64327724lol what? Ammo is heavy and if you stack a lot of it and drive it around bumpy roads no I don't think tupperware is suitable. If you don't then sure use whatever you want. And "overpriced"? A standard 50cal M2A1 ammo can is like, $17. That's literally same ballpark cost as a similarly sized tupperware OP. Being quite cheap as well as tough is precisely why they are popular.
>>64327724Yes and no. Assuming that the gasket on the metal cans actually keeps them airtight, they should work better than plastic for long term storage since metal has lower OTR and MVTR. The exception is if you're specifically using mylar bags and not just regular plastic. The real downside to metal ammo cans is the price compared to plastic, but even then, both are dirt cheap on the regular.
>>64327845>OTR and MVTRjesse what the fuck are you talking about
>>64327845Which is entirely irrelevant for most people. Ammo lasts for decades in normal indoor conditions.
>>64327724Tupperware doesn't have a nice handle for me to hold it with and swing into someone's face after I fill it with rusty old nails.
I honestly struggle to understand this mindset. A 50cal can holds like, 700rnds of 5.56 or 1000 of 9mm or like 3000-4000 of 22lr. You can buy a grade 2 surp can, right now, for $14 on midway and that isn't even on sale. Sure a plastic crate is even cheaper, but still we're talking $14 to hold a few hundred dollars or more worth of ammo at a time, for years and years. I certainly wouldn't judge anyone for just having plastic stuff if that's what works for them, but I don't understand sperging about it either. The percentage is just so irrelevant.
>>64327724Ammo cans are tougher and lockable. Perfect for actually moving ammo. Tubberware is fine inside a safe but I wouldn't be caught dead with it on the range.
I have like seven plastic ammo cans because that's how lax sent their reloads wtf am I suppose to do with these stupid fucking things
These go on sale at Harbor Freight for 9.99
>>64327724Probably the most effective and versatile piece of milsurp.
>>64328227Just as long as you've got more than noodle-arms.
>>64327958It's totally unnecessary. So is the tupperware. You can simply keep ammo in its factory boxes, a special container to put it in is entirely superfluous. I'm not trying to argue that tupperware is better, I'm asking why buy either one?>>but but but how do you get your ammo to the range?Okay, check this out: I grab a few boxes (or loaded mags) out of my closet and put them in my range bag.>>64328227They are very versatile, I'll give you that. I've got a couple "fat 50" cans I use as tool/accessory storage on heavy equipment & trailers.>>64327982>lockable.How is this a benefit when the whole can is easily stolen? Are you chaining them together with cables or something?
>>64327724I just cracked by plastique tuperware after closeing the fridge door casually.
>>64328310You can hide rounds in your pocket. Whole cans not so much.
>>64327786This. It’s armyfag larping
None of you have ever turned an ammo can into a caliber-waifu fleshlight and it shows.
>>64328310>It's totally unnecessaryUh.>You can simply keep ammo in its factory boxesUnless it's PRS ammo where you're trying to ultra carefully baby each individual round this is insanely space inefficient.>Okay, check this out: I grab a few boxes (or loaded mags) out of my closet and put them in my range bag.You do that with hundreds or thousands of rounds anon? You have tens of thousands of rounds at home in your closet?>I only ever shoot a few boxes at the range and then I'm done and if I need another few boxes I can just go to the LGSYeah ammo cans are indeed not for you but I hope you can recognize that there exist /k/ anons who maybe shoot a little more and purchase in larger (and lower cpr) quantities.
>>64328326If I'm a thief why wouldn't I just walk off with the whole can, rather than opening it, trying to pocket a handful of rounds, and then closing it again? The latter takes much longer and makes a lot more noise, all for a measly payout.
>>64327724what else am I supposed to put truss bolts in?
>>64328435>Unless it's PRS ammoI'm assuming people are storing that kind of ammo in picrel.>You do that with hundreds or thousands of rounds anon? Yes.>You have tens of thousands of rounds at home in your closet?Yes. They're on shelves. Shelves are more accessible than cans, and more economical too.>purchase in larger (and lower cpr) quantities. What does quantity have to do with it? The point of an ammo can is weatherproofing and mechanical durability. That is relevant for soliders storing ammo in non-HVACed locations and having to toss it out of aircraft, but it doesn't really make much sense for someone storing ammo at home.
>>64328454forgot my pic like a tard
So do you just dump the ammo boxes out into cans/tupperware/whatever? I keep my ammo in the boxes, but have seen several sources saying not to do that for a long period of time.
>>64328467>but have seen several sources saying not to do that for a long period of time.yeah, didn't you know you have to consooom?
>>64327724Are they good to handle battery fire?
>>64327893>Which is entirely irrelevant for most peopleShh...you're around hobbyists who buy gear they think they're finally going to use "when SHTF"...
>>64327724>“Ammo” cans are a complete waste of money.when i buy ammo it comes in an ammo can, do you not order in bulk?
>>64328467Keep ammo in boxes but also store them in ammo can.
>>64328513NTA, but it's usually only the cheapest shit ammo that comes loose in cans. I do buy in bulk, but it usually comes in small cardboard boxes packed in larger (cardboard) cases.
>>64327724>$10 steel container that looks cool>ammo often gets literally sold contained in them (got two cans just from buying 1k rounds once)how is it remotely overpriced
>>64327724yeah and i bet OEM Glock mags are a complete waste of time and money since pmags exist. STFU poser.
>>64328522Lake City often comes in bulk loose pack and that's not cheap shit
always been fond of the wooden stackables myself, they're easy to copy and make more of
>>64328753They look cool but are dogshit unless you've got slave labor and pallets are unknown tech. Worst thing is Russia stacks shitn in cubes anyway. Why not make a base? It can even be WOOD!
>>64328753seconding what other anon said, they're kino but dogshit if you actually have to use them
>>64327724>I am too poor to afford bulk ammo, or ammo cans to put the ammo into, and am assmadFTFY
>>64328504or ammo cans are just convenient and durable storage containers for anything thats sensitive to moisture? There are people who live in places and in conditions where it is humid and salty and generally wet and you cant just leave ammo in a cardboard box
>>64327724holy cow its ammo can jew, I haven't seen you post since 2018. ammo cans are still fine for storing ammo you weirdo
>>64329130I’ve ordered tons of bulk ammo and it has NEVER come in “ammo” cans. Only boxes. And the boxes are more than are for long term storage. I’ve never once felt the need to splurge on consoomer cans.
>>64329330yeah
>>64329353Ok?
>>64327724I tend to get them cheaply
>>64329353based ppu
>>64328310>You can simply keep ammo in its factory boxesBut anon, metal ammo cans ARE the factory boxes for me
>>64329678I got a can of that. it was alright all thing considered.
>>64328448your urethra
>>64327724>waste of moneySucks to suck for the people that bought thes things both of mine came free with ammo
>>64327724It's a literal cargo cult. Civvies see the military use ammo cans, so they buy it to larp too. The military needs it because they ship the ammo across oceans and into hostile climates. Bubba shooting beer cans while sitting on his mobility scooter in his front porch (can't even walk to his backyard) doesn't need an ammo can.
>>64329858If Bubba has access to a bigger range facility, however, he might want something like an ammo canI have lugged enough ammo with me on occasion an ammo box is justified just to avoid spilling my ammunition all over the place while walking to the firing line
>>64329678yeahammo cans are great for storing ammo, especially with a lock added. I have to pick up some more cans to store some 9mm, 357mag and 7.7jap this weekend.
>>64327724Fuck yamudda
>>64327724Post ammo stashI bet you have at most 500 rounds total if not a complete noguns
>>64327724It's either cardboard boxes that fall apart when I'm lifting them or metal BAWKES and I'm partial to metal BAWKES when lugging around 20+lbs of ammo
>>64327724they look cool and they're free
In Canada, ammo comes in bags
I just use plastic shopping bags.
>>64329919Do those locks keep people from stealing your ammunition?
>>64327786It's this OP, >>64327724That's why I bought so many.I like them and I'm going to keep doing it.
>>64330097But those bags are for spent cases and/or trash?>>64330027Subtle kek
>>64330116They're one more barrier keeping my toddler from having a lead and brass snack. He's fast, he's already strong and agile enough to take a closet door off its hinges, but he can't open a combo lock yet.>>64329858I see someone doesn't live near water. Or in an area with wildlife that occasionally break into the house/cabin and chew on shit.
>>64330097This really is the way. Zero need to shell out so much money on specialized containers.
>>64327724>Literally any random tupperware or bag would serve the same role.So not true. 3/10 bait for (you)s.
>>64330209>those bags are for spent casesNo, that's what pastic coffee "cans" are for.

>>64330402You attacked the man not the argument
>>64328310>You can simply keep ammo in its factory boxes>Taking 20boxes to the rangeYou're a fag and you talk like one. I take cans to the range and I don't stop shooting until it runs empty or my arms hurt too much to keep going. No guns bitch.
>>64329995ThisGym bags, big rucksacks, etc work to an extent, but tend to rip at the seams or the sheer weight destroys the zipper
>>64327868Oxygen and moisture transfer rate seems appropriate for those i believe
>>64328513You havent bought enough ammo to know the different ways ammo is packed so you dont get a say in this.
>>64328522no shit my fgmm comes in boxes of 200 but my saltech comes in 560rd cans and my gun loves it. i got a can of pmc 556 and now i use it for my bonefrog 77gr otm ammo that comes in boxes for no fucking reason. ive got about 3-5 ammo cans and they are all used for something. one is just full of shells to be reloaded. any kind of speed based shooting on steel should be done with ball ammo which probably comes in a can, especially if you are just doing drills.
>>64330825see>>64330836
>>64328753I've saved two of these fuckers from the trash. One has a crumbling side due to bad wood that shouldn't have been used which I quick fixed; might back it. The other had a bottom that looked like it had been stored in a barn (basement?) and slowly rotted from exposure to low amounts of moisture. It got a new upgraded bottom, plywood instead of particle board.>>64329995This; instead of having an extremely stupidly custom shelf for all my shit I just throw ammo in a can, label it, add it to the stack, and call it a day. When I need it for the range, I find the cans I need and bring them. Mags? Oh they have 30 cal cans of their own. Space efficient and no fucking around customizing shelves. I have enough "make this piece of furniture work for the thing it will never work for" in my life. Even custom shit eventually outlives its usefulness and needs to be redone.>>64330027=O
>>64327958I ditched the plastic, stacking uniformly and just longevity make it a win for me. Plus OCD.
>>64328442Because everybody is going to notice if you walk off with a whole ammo can. Especially if it has somebody's name on it. Best case scenario you come home to a police cruiser asking to search your home for stolen property. Worst case scenario the owner confronts you and shoots you when you run.

>>64330840You said your ammo comes in cans. I replied to that comment. Im not going to know if you decide to lie or not which is why I said what I said based off of that comment. And the point still stands. If you only receive your ammo in one or two configurations you dont have enough experience to talk about others. Why did you even comment back to me? Just dont talk about subjects you arent well versed in. Not hard. Ask questions about things you dont know. Again. Not hard.
>>64331118imagine breaking into this anon's house when he's not home and jerking off all over his previous metal bawxes. then next time he goes to the range he'd get cum on his hands and he'd be a faggot and everyone would laugh at him and call him a faggot>shitposting aside that is cool dude, nice job

>>64329330you can get them in the metal ammo cans or you can go to gun shows and get an empty metal can for about 5 dollars. if $5 is splurging or consooming to you I find it extremely hard to believe that you can afford to shoot anything except a .22LR

That plastic ammo can is almost immovable.NTA but I use 40mms for big ass storage. For my regular ammo storage, I've landed on a weird middle ground I don't think anyone (in the US) will really be able to duplicate. The 40mm cans (usually marked "32 CARTRIDGES, 40MM, W/M16A2 LINKS) almost perfectly work with some odd cans I happened to come across. Put two 40s aside each other, latch facing you. Then cut a piece of plywood to fit the top of that (for nothing but ease of stacking with other cans due to the nubs on the lids). Put 4 British 30 cal ammo cans with the latch facing you in a row. 2 British 30 cals almost exactly equal 1 US 40mm. It's the weirdest thing. They also almost perfectly work out to be able to have 4 30 cals on top of each of them so you get 2 US 40mms/layer and 8 Brit 30 cals/layer. The 40mms are for bulk or shotgun ammo you won't touch for a long time. The 30 cals are quick to grab and bring to the range. Where you can get British 30 cals (or German or Brazilian since they use the same brown ones) I will never know. I just rolled and got dumb luck and found a lot of cheap ones. The US 30 cal cans may work but they're slightly wider, something like maybe 1/16" if not 1/32". Works best in a cubby or closet spot so the stack can't fall over, but I think it's pretty secure within reasonable stack height.
I have funsize ammo cans, about a dozen 7.62 NATO, a bunch of cheap .50s, and 20mm AA belt can. I keep my entire camp kitchen in the 20mm can, one of the .50s is my soldering and electronics box, another one is my burn locker to keep the kid away from the torches and mini cans of gas, the battery stash is in a 5.56 can, and so on. They're shockingly useful if you need to keep something in a moisture-free locking box.
