Do bayonets have any place in modern combat?
I wouldn't call stabbing modern
>>64328816not really
>>64328816I dunno, have people gotten any more stab-resistant? Do combatants always leave a fair amount of distance between each other as to not accidents bump rifles into each other? Have we evolved from the need of a very sharp rock, the most basic and essential tool that I'd argue was a more important discovery/invention than fire or the wheel?
>>64328824hand to hand combat has a place in modern combat yet hand to hand combat isn't modern. if you're average IQ don't try to dunk, you just end up bouncing off the rim while getting laughed at
>>64328816Yes, they're good for stabbing corpses to make sure they're not just pretending to be dead.
>>64328816It's 99% a useful tool these days. Can opener, wire cutter, box opener, prying tool, cooking utensil, cutting tool, bludgeoning instrument, etc, etc. One of its other uses is you can use it to stab people in combat. Does it have a standing place in modern combat compared to just shooting the guy? No, not really. But it's place in the military as a tool can never be understated.
>>64328832You'd be surprised how often that happens. Just the other day I was corpse poking with my buddy Tim who forgot his bayonet. I warned him he needed something sharp in case one of them was playing dead. Of course he just used a stick and got his face ripped off. Fucking Tim, what a retard
>>64328832and what do you do when they just continue to pretend to be dead after you stab them?
>>64328845Sounds like you're being sarcastic, but OP did specifically ask about modern combat, which you and your butt buddy aren't partaking in.Faggot.
>>64328846Stab x2
>>64328816Mounting bayonets on modern rifles is retardedBayonets worked when mounted on muskets due to their length which actually allowed them to function as pseudo-spearsShort rifles mounted with bayonets are just cumbersome to use in melee, you might as well just use a knife by itself
I like the slidey stabby one
>>64328830This anon is right, but also, people aren't instinctually afraid of getting shot the same way they're instinctually afraid of being stabbed. EVERYONE has been injured by something sharp in their life. Few people have been shot by comparison.
>>64328816>on a rifleNot unless you're expecting to be charged or sieged.A combat knife is a still a knife, it has uses for the tool it is. many better people have said if you're at the point you have to fight in hand-to-hand, you fucked up, but if your enemy is also in the same position, it's a completely logistical clusterfuck on both sides
>>64328896>you fucked upyes this has all but been eliminated in modern combat. the "fuck up"...quite the unicorn in the age of today
>>64328816Not really. Only for crowd control cause no one is going to willingly charge into a sharp object and tear gas is better.
>>64328816Bayonets have a place in my bussy
>>64328876you need to learn how to write and organize your thoughts. should probably look into logic, too.
>>64329012You need to learn how to accept that your mother and I will be staying together, sonny boy. Should probably look into moving out of her basement, too.
>>64329005okay Gadaffi
>>64328832use the barrel of your gun...?
>>64328816Maybe for Cqb or trench clearing, not like they should be room clearing with the bayonet as a primary attack, just like to poke someone if they got too close by sheer coincidence
>>64328816You could put one on a drone mounted gun and charge when the magazine was empty or use a drone to drop weighted bayonets on beople
>>64328816If you are ever in close quarters with the enemy then yes absolutely.
>>64328824But its a mainstay of living in any major european city of the 21st century
>>64328849They are doing corpse searches in ukraine. Particularly dangerous because ziggers are taught to boobytrap themselves with grenades.Overall a bayonet is inferior to carrying additional ammunition. However it has tool use as a wire cutter and field knife.
>>64328816usually the place for them is on the end of a gun, just like the guy in your picture
>>64328816better to have it than not, despite all the drones and whatnot in the end we still have dudes clearing trenches within arms reach of the enemy, a bayonet seems handy
>>64328867This Anon gets it.
>>64328816If I'm raiding or defending a trench I might attach one depending on how the extra length feels to move around with.
>>64328816Yes, to spare bullets when we will finish ziggers who surrender.
>>64331388>a bayonet seems handystabbing through nylon, web gear, kevlar and armor plates seems suboptimal, especially when you can just pull the trigger and stab them with boolit
>>64328816Yes they do: Bayonets take ground, bullets deny ground.People are willing to stand their ground when under fire. They are not willing to stay put when a bloke is charging at them with a fixed bayonet.
>>64328964This is all I can think of. Guns are so well-made and have historically massive mags that your gun will always work, and you always have ammo. The only time a bayonet is useful is when you're not allowed to shoot but still need a "less lethal" option.... FUck now I want to see group US Marines bayonet charge into a group of Antifa...Trump if you are shit posting on /K/, please make this happen... give the fucking order.
>>64332696But why can't I just shoot you when I'm charging at you with a bayonet?
>>64332763>your gun will always work, and you always have ammo.
>>64332771That's the great part, you can! But you also have a bayonet! It's win-win!
>>64332816I'd honestly rather just have the knife in my hand and a pistol in the other at that point.
>>64332922That's not as scary though and is more complicated to use effectively.Fix your bayonet, you still do your regular shooting drills with some poking.
>>64332922I would rather have an SBR with a bayonet
>>64332922t. call of duty veteran
>>64332954That sounds like the best of both worlds. Unfortunately, you're going to need muzzle velocity at some point of a war.
>>64332763You are such a retard nigga
>>64333010My mom took Tylenol while pregnant
>>64328816stab people
>>64331186Tungsten rod drone when?
>>64328816>Do bayonets have any place in modern combat?
