.22s are profoundly fucking gay. I want to be kicked in the shoulder and left wildly disorientated, I want my ears to ring even with doubled earpro, people should complain about me to the RSO and dumping a mag should carry the risk of TBI for both myself and those on either side of me. If your caliber doesn't do that, its a toy.
>>
>>64331855
I see you have made the summit of mt. stupid
>>
>>64331855

>>
>>64331842
The real problem is that 22lr is 5 cpr right now along with the initial investment of the firearm or crappy conversion kit, so it only seems marginally better than training with one of those laser or CO2 dry fire systems that you can actually install on your carry gun or home defense rifle. If 22lr was 2 cpr then yeah it would be a no-brainer to train with it.
>>
22lr is fun for a box, then you realize it's 90% reloading mags and the recoil makes it not so fun
>>
>>64331909
its still quite a step up to something like 9mm. if you wanna practice handling recoil it's the wrong thing of course, but for everything else its just as fun and effective
>>
.22 is hella boring. theres nothing to learn unless you're doing long-range rimfire shooting.
>>
>>64331955
if shooting a cactus with a glock from 14ft away taught you everthing about shooting, thats cool
>>

.22's are kind of a toy yeah. You wanna know something?

Pssst. Toys are fun. That's why we have them.

It's a cheap round for plinking cans or glass bottles or anything else small really. It teaches you the fundamentals, retard. Aiming, holding steady, breathing technique, reloading, etc.

Don't be a fucking braindead tryhard.

My neighbor gave me 3 boxes of 22 short, which I would never buy, but now I'm excited to try it in my single shot Marlin.

It's great for varmint hunting. Go out into the field and see a dozen or more critters skittering round. Just set up somewhere and start shooting.

i wish i lived in australia so i could go out and pop 30 rabbits in a night. they dont even bother with .22s, they use air rifles for that.
they don't bother picking up the rabbits either, which i thought was kinda weird tho

See this Calico M110? It's not a top tier competition pistol, or an operator's weapon, but it is however a VERY enjoyable recreational pistol.

I realized everything I'm interested in is either 22 or 50 cal awhile back. Excluding 20ga.

22lr
22wmr
5.7
5.56
500S&W
50bmg

This combined with 20ga would fill every need I have.
>>
.22 is very useful if you're practicing movement. Make your targets smaller, and further away than normal. CMMG conversion kits are a fantastic training tool. Dont shoot until empty, buy the bore buddy firing pin, as well as extra mags when they go on sale for $10. Get a bunch and load them at home. Aguila .22 lr extra 40 grain solid point. TX22 with the 5 mags and green dot. You go now.

you're gonna really upset them when you talk about the sizes of magnum cartridges.

What is the production cost of the projectile?
What is the production cost of the cartridge case?
What is the production cost of the primer?
Can it be used in a hand-ejector or automatic ejector revolver without clips or hopeless Medusa shenanigans?

By far THE most important aspect of .22 rimfire is the economy, and it isn't just the colossal economy of scale which has been building since Smith & Wesson introduced the first of its kind in the 1800s, it's that .22 rimfire ammunition is EXTREMELY economical to manufacture by nature.
That's really difficult to match, let alone overcome.
You're never gonna replace it honestly, unless someone devises a good enough caseless .22 cartridge of comparable performance, where the various drawbacks of caseless cartridges don't fucking matter because it's only a .22 anyway.

Maybe you could take .25 Auto, remove the rim and lengthen the case (for a bit more powder), and perhaps get that rolling as a replacement mousegun cartridge, which could then pivot to a niche as a sort of 'deluxe' counterpart to .22 for rifles and target pistols or something.
>>
>>64335146
>cost
Right on queue
Don't care, I didn't read it
Each and every cartridge or even aspect of firearm technology is expensive when first introduced
>>
>>64335168
.22LR is fundamentally much cheaper to make than your proposal, it's cheaper in material and in work/manufacture, it's not JUST economy of scale.
>>
>>64335207
So are flinklock muskets, as we completely eliminate the cost of case and primer, yet here we are not using that outdated technology because we collectively decided the cost savings aren't worth it

First of all, retarded equivalency, a flintlock musket isn't its ammunition, it's the weapon itself.

Second, .22LR is a million times more convenient than loading muskets even with paper cartridges, because it's a self contained metallic cartridge. It can be a pistol, a revolver, a rifle, even a machinegun, any such kind of weapon can be a .22, and you just load the cartridges like with other calibers.
See this dual BX-25 magazine? 25+25 rounds for a 10/22 rifle? A flintlock musket will NEVER do this, and countless other things that .22LR does.

Thus, third, those cost savings end up being way fucking worth it. You can buy a brick of 500 rounds of .22LR for fucking peanuts, costs which you could only get centerfire ammo for if it was plentiful surplus after WW2, and the .22 is going to handle like a contemporary weapon.
