NTA but they probably make them now where they sync up to an app on your phone and you can set the alarm after you leave or to arm at a certain time. That's if you trust linking your security system to a phone app. a dog is fine too

That's a pretty big vulnerability and hard to overcome.

You may want to consider beefing up the security of your bedroom and storing valuables in there. Replace the door handle with an exterior-grade, locking handle, and replace the screws in the strike plate with 4" deck screws into the wall stud. Cheap, not immediately obvious during an inspection and easily reversible when you leave. Of course they'll be able to kick through the door itself if it's your typical, cardboard-construction internal door but most burglars are just there to grab what they can carry and fuck off, the extra work of kicking through another ain't what they signed up for.

Baofengs are unironically a good idea. Typical cheap jammers cover 10-36 bands, but only 0.5-1.5W power each band. Enough to interfere with a cell phone or wireless security cam but not enough to handle a 5-10W radio with equal antenna gain.
Leixen makes a handheld transceiver called the UV-25D that outputs 25W UHF and 45W on 2 meter VHF. Very difficult to jam unless you have one of those backpack jammers popular in Ukraine and South Africa, but they are too large to get through customs so they are rare CONUS.
