The new M14. What in the world was the US Army thinking?
>>
>overmatch opfor
>compliment fire support and drone defenses
I don't know what people are thinking about having fire superiority but what's the point when US ARMY is engaging at 1000m with a rifle and fire support.

why do people still call it the xm5? it was renamed to (x)m7 a while ago already

>Yes please give me LESS ammunition and HIGHER recoil so I have an even harder time at shooting down a fast moving <100m range small target

It deserves to be deadnamed or whatever. It's a dysfunctional mess of a gun, much like the decrepit boomer institution that dreamt it up. It doesn't deserve a non-X designation either.

Afghanistan trauma.
Cant use fire support because "war for hearts and minds"
Cant use FPVs because boomers hate progress.

The US Army always gears up for the previous war.

Didn't know.

with how ukranians and russians are moving the NGSW really does look like it'll do super well in such a conflict
>>
Yes OP is indeed so ignorant he doesn't even know the name of the rifle he is talking about.

I can't think of a single time a rifle like a battle rifle being heavy ever actually mattered. Ukrainians move so fucking slow and methodically and whenever they need to transfer quickly from trench to trench what always gets them killed is not the weapon weight but the gorillion pounds of armor plates they decided to carry. Rifles no matter how overbuilt are just such a tiny meaningless percentage of a soldier's kit reducing mobility. I almost fucking never see those guys using guns like SMGs, 99% of the time they are going PLEWF PLEWF PLEWF PLEWF at specks 500 meters away and when they actually GET to a fortification they just spam grenades because when they run in with a carbine they just get mowed down every time.

I think the average person dickrides light guns too much. I don't think it matters that the XM7 is heavy at all (though having a barrel with no accuracy that burns out immediately is). Just saying

>I can't think of a single time a rifle like a battle rifle being heavy ever actually mattered.
The majority of small arms kills in the Ukie war were designated marksmen and snipers shooting at the enemy (it's partially why the Russians were complaining to their leaders that Ukrainians had more NVGs and thermals). The concept of choosing a more powerful cartridge than 5.56 was sound; the execution that led to adopting a 6 MOA rifle was the problem.
>>
>>64338931
Yep. The U.S. army should have adopted a more accurate, longer range, and compact 6.5 Grendel or 6mm, or even a better 7.62 NATO like 6.5 creedmoor which the top guys already use anyway. Blending DMRs and carbines together seamlessly. Everyone has come to the same conclusion

Instead they wanted a hypermagnum carbine for 30-06ing chinese men at 10 meters away. Basically a shotgun. There's just no way to get a rifle that short without murdering the barrel and accuracy unless you bullpup it which the U.S. has a hateboner for. Well they are basically stuck with it now because Sig refuses to acknowledge the barrel can't actually survive even a fraction as long as they declared it could and will sue you if you disagree
