Why did the US/South Vietnamese not employ mercenaries or soldiers of fortune to the same extent as was happening in contemporary African conflicts, or with PMCs during the GWOT? You are not permitted to answer, the US had a much larger drafted military during the Cold War and did not lack in the specific tactical or technical capacities that mercenaries were hired for by African countries in order to rectify deficiencies in their own armies
wtf they were hunting monkeys?
>>64342144Technically didn't they actually employ a fuckton of mercs? Surely the Montagnards weren't US Army.
>>64342173Yeah but it doesn't feel very mercenary to get paid to fight on your doorstep against an adversary seeking to exterminate your culture. Also a lot of them were in the ARVN.
>>64342160They thought they were meant to hunt for gorillas.
>>64342144You could technically argue under the terms of their participation and what their government got in exchange for it, the US had 300,000 mercenaries
>>64342173every non-american would be considered a merc if that were the case.
>>64342144Bc the mercenary world was much different in the 60s vs the GWOT and post-GWOT massive PMC industry. The industry didn't exist anywhere near the same capacity as it does now. There were plenty of American mercs in Vietnam tho definitely not othe same level we'd see in more modern conflicts but you had a lot working under air America and other shell companies operating around and inside Cambodia and Laos.
>>64342144America had a significantly more numerous conscripted armed forces at the time of the conflict which adequately fulfilled any combat, service, or support roles; unlike other nations which had to recruit soldiers of fortune for the purpose of amending the shortcomings in their respective militaries
>>64342144>you cant answer with the right answer!then why did you make this thread?
>>64342160The local tribesmen would eat anything
>>64342208Wouldn't them make them more like pic related? The correct term in this case would be auxiliary rather than mercenary
>>64342276True. Those monkeys probably attack humans so they're also protecting their family.
